This happened today at our UIL competition. We played fine then in the middle of the song "Joy" everyone stopped for no apparent reason. Only people who where left playing that where the horns and a couple trumpets (4/4 horns, 2/10 trumpets). We luckily got passed with a two on concert due to the other two songs being great and them liking the solo.

My section does that all the time. We'll be playing "Music from King Kong" and the flutes (me) have this really long note that goes for likre 24 beats. And everyone but me just stops after like 8. It pisses me off.

That happened when our band did a collab concert with the high school. Our band played a song called "Plaza de Toros". There was this part where the saxophones were supposed to come in, but apparently, we didn't come in, leaving the flutes and clarinets playing background music. Afterwards, we were all talking about how we royally sucked. redface

*laughs* Absolutely! It was during band tour this past year, and we were playing at a school in Boston. There was this one song that we had practiced only a few times and no one knew how it went named Peanut Vendor. However, Mr. Band Director thought we could beast it, so we played it. We all reached the end at different points (I think), and by the time everyone had stopped playing our band director was still staring down at his music waving his baton (he stopped after a few beats). It was aweful because we murdered the poor Peanut Vendor. The audience thought we did great. But what would they know? Luckily, we never played it again and we were happy to clean it out of our folders at the end of tour.

well...it was during band camp and we had brought the entire band together to practice our performance. I had the suspended cymbal part in this song, and I played...butI noticed no one played after that...I glanced up to see everyone staring at me. Director: "I cut off" me: *walks away from the suspended cymbal as he continues talking* the percussion was like: "GOOD JOB, MADDY!" and im like: " SHUT UP!" i looked at the director from there....

Not during a performance, thankfully. During practice, plenty of times. Several times in class I was the only one playing because everyone else got lost because someone else got lost and they didn't hear something as a reminder to come in, ect. You're supposed to count people, just in case... stare

Our upper concert band didn't die at one concert...but Mr. Hartmetz was about to kill them!
They all started a half a beat late. Every. Single. Person. And they stayed perfectly half a beat off the entire song. I didn't even notice until they were done and Hartmetz was still conducting for a second. I don't think I want to know how badly he was glaring at them. eek

Sometimes it was kind of a sectional thing.
One time, DURING A CONCERT (jazz), we were playing a song, and there was a rhythm section break. After the break, the saxophones were supposed to come in with the melody, and only one tenor sax player actually came in. The rest joined him after about a measure, so it kind of sounded like that was how it was supposed to be...Kind of.

We have had this happen a few times the past few days,a nd unfortunately it is because nobody in our band actually practices... And we have a festival next thursday!
So, we are playing asong called Trombone Section, a march, and we have never palyed after meause 53. So, my BD decided to have us play through the song. What happened when we reached 53? I was the only one playing. A mere freshman, and I was the only one palying. even the senior didn't know it...
And on another song, Amazing grace, we were sightreading it to see if it was easy enough to leanr in a week, and on first clarinet solo part, where everyone was supposed to paly background, i, the captive soloist(I'm the only one on first. We only have four clarinets...) was the only one playing. It was awesome, and I got a lot of praise afterwords, but i was not happy.
