Loosening her grip on the reigns, Taryn closed her eyes for just a moment. The horse's soft rhythmic steps lulled her into a trance-like state. She founds herself concentrating on the slow trot and felt her eye lids getting heavier and heavier. She needed a way to keep herself awake for the time being. She was not far out of Li'Mun yet, so she dared not stop to rest. She took a quick glance around at her surroundings and saw no visible forms of life.

"Just us, I guess," she said as she stroked the mare's mane gently. "This is going to be some grand adventure."

Taryn knew if she traveled through the night, she could arrive in Tyr when everyone was asleep and the drunkards were drunk enough to believe the sky was up. Tyr would be the perfect place to find some willing, cheap help that wouldn't ask questions. Reliable was something completely different.

She closed her eyes again as a cool breeze swept passed her, sending shivers down her spine. Leaves on the trees rattled, almost as if they were trying to cover up her horse's steps. She smiled inwardly. Perhaps this won't be so bad after all. As she felt the breeze die down, she opened her eyes. Everything was silent again.

Clink. She heard it. It wasn't her. Her hand flew to the hilt of her sword as she turned her mare in a circle before stopping. She looked around, intently peering into the trees. Sound doesn't come from nowhere, she thought. She just stayed there for a few minutes, looking and listening.

Satisfied that it could have very well been her imagination, she started off again. She immediately noticed her horse's unbalanced steps and knew what that clink was. Dismounting, she went around checking the horse's hooves. Sure enough, the mare had thrown a shoe.

She stared crossly at the animal as if to say, "You did this on purpose." She led the animal over to the side of the road while cursing her bad luck, and tied her to a tree. She was too tired to walk the rest of the way to Tyr, and figured no one else would travel this late. Knowing she probably wouldn't sleep anyway, she sat against a tree.

"So much for making it under the cover of night."

A little ways out of Li'Mun, Lorelai slowed. A soft clink could be heard up ahead, and she surmised that she wasn't too far behind the woman and her horse. Stepping off the road to get closer without being seen, Lorelai walked ever nearer to the woman and her horse. After a little while, she could see the woman dismount and check the mare's hooves. Ah. It's thrown a shoe. Lorelai didn't know much about horses, but she did know that it wasn't all that good to have your horse throw a shoe. And, sure enough, the woman tied up the horse, obviously not intending to go any further tonight.

Not wanting to pass the woman in the trees and scare her, Lorelai doubled back through the woods and came out on the road again, out of sight of the woman's resting place. She continued north, scanning the trees, looking for a sign of the woman. At last she spotted her, sitting against a tree not too far off the road.

"Well. Nice night to be out isn't it?" Lorelai's question hovered a bit in the air as she waited for the woman's response.

At the first whisper of a word, Taryn instinctively reached for her sword and stood. She studied the woman who spoke. Small, petite, and rather nonthreatening looking. She relaxed her stance and leaned back against the tree. She glanced up at the full moon and sighed loudly.

"Yes, nice and unlucky," Taryn grumbled and glared at the mare. She completely blamed the horse for throwing its shoe and delaying her travels. She didn't think that this women needed to know about that, though she didn't know that Lorelai had more or less seen the event.

She looked back at the woman and smiled haphazardly. "Why anyone would be out at this hour, I wouldn't know," she spoke casually and crossed her arms. She looked out of the corner of her eye towards Lorelai, as if expecting an answer to a half asked question. "Just a little bit late, right?" And who'd thought others would be out too, she thought bitterly.

Madison smiled to herself, thinking of her father's latest assignment for her. Jake was like putty in her hands, giving up what she after a simple kiss. Sighing, she sank back into the cusion's of the couch she was on. Opening the book she had on her lap, she began to read.

A loud thunderclap startled her awake after some time. I guess I fell asleep, she thought as she yawned, marking her page and closing the book. Looing out the window, she saw the encroaching darkness of twilight, her favorite time of the day. Standing up, she dropped the book onto the couch and ran through hallway after hallway of her large home, heading to the front door.

Taking the stairs two at a time, Madison rushed out of the door, grabbing her dark red cloak from where it hung next to the door. She slid the dark red velvet over her head, leaving the hood up to shroud her face in shadows. She walked along, the cloak fanning out behind her, revealing her normal black dress with lace gloves. A simple talisman of a star inside a circle hung just between her breasts, a gift from her mother when she was born.

Madison wasn't very strong, but she could control shadows. Having not learned about her power or how to use it for different things, it's more of a reaction to her emotions than full control. When she turned 18 in a few days, she was to travel to the mage school in Li'Mun to study her powers fully.

"Mmhmm...Just a little late. I just get up and go whenever the urge strikes me, and it decided to strike late tonight." A smile played across Lorelai's lips.

"And you?" She knew that it was prying, perhaps beyond what this woman wanted to reveal, but Lorelai couldn't help asking. Before the woman had the chance to respond, though, Lorelai smiled again and said,

"But where are my manners? Sorry. I'm Lorelai." She stuck out her hand and hoped that the woman wasn't too offended.

She took Lorelai's hand with a firm grip and shook it. "Taryn," she spat out curtly, not purposely trying to be rude, but being rude all the same. A smile, a genuine smile, betrayed her, showing her to be more friendly than she was acting.

"I also just got the urge tonight," she lied smoothly. "It was the thunder. You no doubt heard it." A small laugh passed her lips as she thought of Lord Karazan, bellowing in his throne room over this or that.

Another breeze swept through, and she shivered. The air was getting cooler and the scent of rain was heavy. She only hoped that it would hold off until she could get to Tyr.

"Feels like rain," she sighed and cursed her luck. "I was going to rest, but I feel it'd be best to keep moving now. You're welcome to travel with me."

((edit: sorry, I've gotta go eat lunch with some friends. Will be back later tonight!)

Yes, the rain was coming. Lorelai smiled at Taryn's reaction to it, and decided that a companion would be a good idea, though whether she felt that it was better for Taryn or herself, she couldn't tell.

"All right. I wasn't planning to stop anyway, so we'd be stuck with each other whether you'd invited me or not." Another roll of thunder came, but gently, and quite obviously not caused by a magician's wrath. Clouds were forming up ahead, their bottoms growing heavy with droplets which would begin to come falling to earth just about when the two women got to the not too distant stormfront.

((Okay. Until then.))

Mikhail Refoir didn't know what drove him to Li'Mun. And from there on, to Tyr. He just had a feeling, a hunch, that he was supposed to go, for some reason only Fate knows, and she was keeping it close to her heart, like a terrible secret that will cost the lives of others if revealed.
Still, his horse trotted onward. They had hit a metaphoric bump in the road when thunder had sounded not too long ago, although there was not one cloud in the sky. Mikhail had managed to soothe the horse back into taking him to his destination.
While his mother had left the elven home of Eveninwood long before she had had Mikhail, elven blood still pumped through his veins, and while the ability was not strong, he was able to communicate to animals, albeit the line of communication was very thin.
As Mikhail and his horse advanced along the road, real thunder sounded, and faint flashes of lightning could be seen in thunderheads up ahead. In these flashes, Mikhail saw the faint outlines of two people a hundred yards in front of him. He let go of the reins with his right hand, with which he grasped his sword.
"Oy!" he called. It wasn't impolite, but it wasn't quite friendly, either. Although defensive, he was still eager for possible travelling companions.

Madison simply wandered down the road, not really knowing where her feet were taking her. Reaching the large birch tree about a mile away from town, she looked up, large clouds overhead. "Crap." she siad as she felt a droplet hit her face. Turning around, she began to jog, her hood slipping off of her head and her hands reaching down to pick up her dress.

Slowing to a walk, she gave up and simply wnadered again, the pooring rain soaking her completely. Her hair hung in limp strands around her face and her feet were covered in mud. She made it back into town, walking along the roads on the long trudge home. She lived on the far side of town, opossite the side she had come from.

As Lorelai and Taryn walked onward, they heard a man shout indistinctly behind them. Lorelai stopped and turned, her right hand straying to the dagger at her hip. As the horse and its rider drew nearer, she could see the sword in his hand.

When he was within earshot, Lorelai said, "Well, this seems to be quite a popular night for travelers. Headed to Tyr?"

Mikhail pulled on the reins, bringing his horse to a halt, so as to converse with the two women.
"Yes, actually," he said. "How did you know?" He then gave a small gasp and said, "Sorry, I seem to have misplaced my manners." He smiled. "Mikhail Lenoir, of Lendell." He stuck out his hand.

(Gahh, I can't remember if that's the right name of the city or not xd I hope it's right)

((Lindell, close enough XD))

She had also lowered her had to her sword. Her gaze never left Mikhail as he road up and stopped beside Lorelai and her. The little moonlight that peeked from behind clouds casted shadows that made him look even darker to her.

"Taryn," she said again, just as curtly and cold as before. She took his hand and shook it quickly, then returned it to the rein of her mare. She could feel rain droplets hitting her face and let out another string of quiet curses. She pulled the hood of her cloak over her head then wiped her face.

"We shouldn't be far now," she said as she pulled her mare along side her.

A fat droplet of water from the heavy thunderheads above fell onto Mikhail's nose, followed by more rain, being released from the clouds as though they were sponges that had absorbed too much water. Soon, the rain was pouring, the sound thunderous on the surroundings. Mikhail left the hood of his cloak down, however; he had always loved the rain, and never saw reason to hide his flesh from it. The feel of water on his skin made him feel as though he was whole, complete.
"Why are you two going to Tyr?" he yelled over the din of the cascading rain.

Madison didn't pay attention to anything but the cold droplets hitting her skin. Walking along, she realised she had wandered down the road leading to Li'Mun. She simply continued walking however, uncaring of how far away she got.
Coming around a bend in the road, she saw a group of three figures through the gloom and rain, heading towards her. Crap, she thought, trying to dodge off the road before the saw her. Peaking over a bush, she waited for them to go past. Traveling at night and with hooded cloaks on their way to Tyr most likely means trouble, she thought as she watched the figures closely.

"No particular reason. Just a whim that said to be on the move, I guess. Oh, I don't believe I told you that my name's Lorelai." She would have shaken his hand, but the fact that he was on a horse that was taller than she was made it difficult even to try.

The trio began to walk through the rain as it pelted down from above. Lorelai had also left her hood down, relishing the feel of raindrops on her skin. Soon enough, her hair ws soaked, but she didn't really care.
