Athan smiled faintly as he handed over the box of jewelry. "It means, that he is now bonded to your very soul. The uh... young man you saw sitting at this desk," he replied as he motioned one hand back behind him, "Was once a tiny wisp such as the one that is floating before you."
As an afterthought he added: "Take the jewelry as... a gift." He turned to retrieve another business card. The small card was jet black, and appeared blank, but once in the woman's hands a silver ink bled to the surface that clearly read in scripted lettering 'Twilight Designs.'
"I'm certain you'll have more questions in the future about him, but for now, he needs only your company to keep him alive."

Wow. That was a shock. "Are... are you sure?" Echo looked from Pez to the man, to where the darker man sat, back to Pez, and finally rested on the shopkeeper once more. "I think you picked the wrong person," she shook her head emphatically, "I cannot even keep my fish alive past a month.... or plants for that matter...."
She turned back to the wispy shadow, "I think you should pick someone you have a better chance of... survival with."
The woman heard that all he needed was her, or maybe more like her small little soul she might have... but still, surely he needed to eat later on, though if he wouldn't have a mouth like the other guy, that didn't make any sense.
Echo looked down at the jewelry gift made gifted - what an interesting start for the uselife of the set. When the card words appeared like magic, the corners of her lip couldn't help but twitch just a little. "Er, um.... okay, Athan?" she looked back up at him again, still very uncertain on his words.
Pez, on the other hand, stuck close to her shoulder, hovering expectantly. He was not just not happy to be here, but to have someone to be bonded to as well. He glowed just a little more, as if to reaffirm what Athan was saying - he was with her and would not leave.

"It's not so much my choosing, as it is his," Athan explained. He appeared somewhat exasperated, but Pez seemed to all but radiate contentment so he was not about to begin complaining. A happy fiend was a good thing. A very good thing.
"But as I said. You'll no doubt have questions," he went on, "Feel free to return here when you do. This is a safe place for all guardians."

Echo nodded. The words went in one ear and out the other, but the meaning stuck at least. The change and Athan didn't even register on her scale or "weirdness" for the day. "All.... right." She couldn't do anything else but believe him.
She looked down at the card and nodded once again, committing to memory that if she needed anything, come here.
A loud sound echoed through the shop. Echo jumped, as well as the shadow-bound Pez (who 'jumped' behind her). After a bought of embarassment, she pulled out her ringing cellphone. She usually forgot it but because she had a meeting today made the effort to remember. The woman looked to Athan apologetically and then answered, "Hello?"
A voice could be heard talking squeakily on the other side. The woman just listened, and seemed to pale as the minutes ticked off. Pez flickered in a twitchy manner behind her.
"Alright, be right there."
Echo turned back to Athan as she put the phone back into her pocket. "I have to go, but it was nice meeting you, sir." She offered her now empty hand out. "I am afraid I have another..." the woman sent a quick glance over her shoulder to Pez "...engagement to attend to. I appreciate the gift and - advice - as well."

Athan nodded and took her hand gently before waving goodbye as she exited the shop. Once she was gone he turned on his heel to scowl at the spot he knew Mystic was lurking within. "You..." he muttered.
Mystic phased into view with a smug expression as he leaned back into Reyna's chair with his hands propped up behind his head. 'I had nothing to do with that.'
"Perhaps not, but you could've... been more helpful, at least!"
The shadow's shoulder rose and fell as though he had sighed heavily. 'You say such things as though she had a choice in the matter. You know as well as I do, that once a bond is formed, regardless of what the guardians wants, there is nothing save for death that can change what is done.'
Athan folded his arms over his chest and glanced away. He had a point. He had to allow him that much.
