Perfect Pitch: Is it a blessing or a curse?
  Blessing
  Curse
Well...come to think of it, it's kind of both
  Who really cares anyway?
  Oh, I do!
  Um, no
  Wait...what?
I'm just a fricking poll whore. Sure, perfect pitch, yay. Next poll.

I have (mostly) perfect pitch. ^^ Like, I can name a single notes. But if it was like.. a melody, I'd have to use intervals.

Cool, thanks guys.

I kinda know what you mean by the whole melody thing. But once I find the starting pitch, I can just play the melody with hardly any mistakes. I guess I kind of hear the intervals. Like, for anybody who has played any of the final fantasies, I picked out the chocobo song when I was 7 or 8 years old. My brothers were absolutely baffled. Ever since then I've been picking out my favorite melodies (Aeris' theme, tifa's theme, the Sephiroth is gonna kill you theme, and the Kingdom Hearts theme) left and right. Does anybody else like to do this?

Yeah, I do that too. When listening to any kind of song (not just video game music), I have a tendency to wander to the piano and pick the melody or any of the supporting lines out. It annoys the hell out of my spouse because they can't do the same thing.

I've been trying to learn this song by ear on a webcomic that I don't read anymore. The girl doesn't read music, so when all her fans asked for the sheetmusic to the OST she's making up, she said no. I made a suggestion via email that she can invest in a MIDI cable and play right into a notation program, but she in essence told me to **** off. To get my revenge, I'm learning one of her songs by ear, going to notate it properly, then send it to her with a legal notice that she cannot distribute the printed copy due to copyright.

Booyah. Beware the wrath of a musician!!

The only part of the song that's holding me up is this bridge all in blocked chords. Those I have trouble hearing, especially with a low-quality sound recording as my only basis to learn it.

it would be the most horrible thing in the world to be sorrounded by off pitch people and be able to constantly hear the smallest mistakes but its awesome to have it for other reasons

It is pretty annoying to live with a tone-deaf brother who just gets the urge to "sing" at the top of his lungs every time I happen to wander to the piano... stressed

I understand what you mean about those chord notations and such. They drive me nuts too. I tried to completely pick out an entire song on the piano, complete with all of the chords, and it just took so freaking long that I just gave up and downloaded the sheet music off the net. xd I just have to go note by note until I get it, and for anybody else who has ever tried it, it takes a loooooong time. So don't do it. Unless the song is pretty short.

Yeah, trying to pick out triplets in one hand and eighth notes in the other isn't the easiest thing in the world xp

I wish I had perfect pitch! Unfortunately I'm not very good at playing by ear. I can here when it's right, but can't tell just by hearing it what note it is. I have a friend with perfect pitch though.

I believe I do....I'm always correcting my chorus teachers. "Um, it's B flat." "It's E!!!" "Hey, that's a D dominant 7th!" "We're all singing sharp."

Lols, I do that a lot. But if you don't have perfect pitch, I'd say screw it, it's freaking close enough. xd
