The Lunatic On The Grass

PostPosted: Fri Jan 11, 2008 5:15 pm

Actually that surprises me. I was devastated when Eddie died, sad when Jake died, but I always considered the three of them equals. I would have felt the same if Susannah died first. Besides, the journey across that wasteland wouldn't have been so hard if Roland wasn't stuck with Susannah, and things that are easy are boring to read about.

True that, actually. And come to think of it, Eddie did go off on a good note, kind of like Cuthbert; but if he were to be the last survivor, he wouldn't have been the same Eddie. And it would have been much harder for Roland to let go because Eddie was the first, and Eddie was so much like Cuthbert that Roland thought he had found a revived friend.

Exactly. I think Susannah was the best story-wise to go with him. What did annoy me was the constant retelling of the dumb dream.

Yeah. And I wonder where they got the idea for that tunnel beast. It looked familiar, but I'm not sure from where.

Yeah, that did irk me some, too. The plates she could ahve kept, (although I don't think she had any left when it was all said and done.) but not the gun made from Excalibur itself.

I don't know which would be my favorite book, but I'm still rather disappointed with my favorite SK villain's death...Doesn't help I'm not a fan of Mordred as is...

I think Randall deserved better.

I still remember the exact moment when Eddie died for me. Me and my 3 friends were pulling into a parking garage for Otakon and the moment I read that scene, I literally began to cry...My buddy next to me also was reading the books but not as far as I am and he kept trying to get what happened out of me. Eddie's death was so sudden and unexpected, it really hit me hard. Not so much that he WOULD die, but that it would happen THEN, in the midst of victory. It was kind of like the reality of everything hit me, that the Dark Tower is NOT some feel good story where everything turns out right in the end. I mean, up til that point, the Ka-Tet survived everything thrown at them just by sticking together. But there, holding hands in Algul Siento, that one bullet ended everything when their bond was strongest. It was a powerful moment.

Or maybe I just sound like someone looking far too into things. ::Shrug::

No, Jason you speak true. That was what he wanted to portray within his story. Moments that you wish you could go back and re-read with a different outcome. The reality of it is right there on paper. You can't take it back and there are no due-overs. Even when Sussannah met Jake and Eddie on the other side I kept thinking that it wasn't our Eddie. The Edward Cantor Dean that we knew. It was Eddie Torren.

I wish someone would make some movies or a TV series out of the books. But then I'm almost afraid that they'll butcher it.

Anyone read the comic for the series? And did you enjoy it as much as I did!? whee
