My most useful party member, Basch easily. He's my tank and seriously kicks some a**. I am leveling them all up evenly (except Vaan, he's behind), but Fran, Balthier and Basch are my main three. I focus on physical attack a lot, these three are heavy hitters, but can heal up etc on thier own. I switched out Fran's bow for the spear (a very powerful weapon in the game).

Fran and Balthier for me =3
they were both using Axes, and always did a ton of damage even though Axes are melee weapons~
Fran's Lv.III quickening ALWAYS came up for me too~
Basch was horrible to me D=

I always found Ashe incredibly useful because she worked well as a tank, but was also a strong spellcaster. The problem with Basch was he was only good as a tank, and Penelo, who was only good as a spellcaster.

I mostly use Penelo and Basch as my tanks.
Though I use Penelo and Ashe for healing and Fran for spell casting.
Vaan and Balthier pretty much fill the gaps.

Balthier was my strongest character for a very long time and Fran was my best magic user. Only when I started to level up other people did I realise that Basch is actually the strongest. xd
Oh well, Balthier and Fran are still my favourites!

Fran, not just because she is my favorite character, but that she can quickly become the strongest member of you party. Having someone with strong magic and strong range/archery can be a 1up on boss battles and monster battles.
