Gods, but he was the most frustrating man on the planet.

"Have you actually killed someone, doctor?" she inquired with deathly calm, not moving away from him. "No? I've two deaths to my name. Have you been stoned or cut or scarred just because you're different, the subject of hate itself? No?" Alex pulled her head back, body still pressed against him. Her hands moved to cup his face, not making him look at her but indicating she'd like him to with the angle of her touch. She was trying to play by his rules, but he was purposely making this difficult. She had to see those eyes that haunted her so.

"You've saved me more than once. I hear your cries in my nightmares...I don't believe for a moment that you would hurt me." Her thumb stroked along his jaw, her lips still sweet with the memory of his salty tears. Alex moved as though she would kiss him, near close enough to do so although she did nothing more than speak. "Your very presence is worth any chance or ailment that may befall me. Don't you see that yet? Demons and phantom gods can't keep me away from you. I'll fight you on this until you understand...or until you stop underestimating my very obvious and admitted affection for you. You're important to me."

Kenth looked at Alex with a blank expression on his face. He stayed like so for what seemed to be like forever, and did not move as she spoke. When his eyes were forced to look at her face, they stopped on her lips instead of eyes. The dark skinned woman's words shot across his mind, entered from his left ear and left from his right. In other words, he was neither listening nor looking at Alex. Yet somehow he knew what she was saying. It wasn't the first time Kenth was told that Alex was not someone who had a normal life, and he didn't need to hear to know that she was talking about it.

So when she was done he said, with a hint of annoyance in his voice, "I know that."

And at that point Kenth decided that it was no use, like the female said, to try and keep her away for her own sake.

Raising his hand, Kenth did perhaps the most shocking thing that he had done stepping into this room. He laid fingers on Alex's jawline, and traveled down to her neck. His hand twiched as if he was trying to grab the woman's neck and choke her, but it didn't. Instead the fingers traveled back up and took the female chin in between them. There, the fingers stroked almost delicately at Alex's skin. By then, his face was not more than a few inches away from hers. His eyes finally settled on hers. It was a cold stare, almost as cold as Kenth's next words.

"You have never answered my question." He hissed, "Is your life really that worthless to you?"

Alex didn't know she had stopped breathing until she opened her mouth to reply to him. She snapped it shut, breathing in air, breathing him in. It wasn't his words that had rattled her, quite the opposite; it was his touch that stole her breath, left her wide-eyed and flushing. The woman hadn't survived as long as she had by being stupid, and despite his seemingly tender touch, she was alert and ready.

"My life isn't worthless, I don't understand your question." She closed in another inch to him, eyes narrowing a little, her eyebrows knitting darkly. "I don't fear for my life, I fear a life without you." Another inch. "Is your life so worthless, doctor, that you would throw away the one person who isn't going to give up on you? If you're so afraid for my well being, tell me to leave. Tell me you don't want me around. Tell me I mean nothing and that your life is better without what I feel for you."

Her voice was as cold and hard as his, an even match for his intent. She wasn't afraid of him, or his threats. If it came down to it, she could disable him before he ever had a chance to deal her any harm worth worrying about. Kenth didn't see her anger, her wrath, her righteous fury. He didn't see her fight for her own life, only for the lives of those around her. He had seen her fight for his life, and that should have been a greater concern than anything. Alex was too fatalistic; she measured her life by the people she surrounded herself with.

And just maybe, she'd found the one worth dying for.

Kenth was at once shaken by Alex's reaction. Not because of what she said, not because of what she did or how she looked, but by how much she acted like his own brother, only in a more violent way. How did he see her before? Was she always like this? Was she always this similar to his brother? If that was the case, then he knew why he was both attached and disliked her at the same time, just like with Greg. This wasn't about his past anymore, and Kenth found himself surprisingly frustrated at the woman for being so alike. In fact, he was so angry, that he probably couldn't able to justify his crazed action if someone were to make him testify later.

He kissed her, on the lips. It was a sudden, but well aimed kiss, with a force so great that it threatened to knock the female counterpart backwards.

Then he bounced back, gave Alex an angry glare, and walked around her to the exit. He stopped at the door for a brief moment, leaving Alex a final message, before storming out of the room, slamming the door behind him:

"Listen to yourself and think who you are. You are not a selfless GOD, so stop pretending that you are."

He was certain that was the sentence he wanted to say to his brother, too.

The shock that shot through her body was both painful and numbing, setting all her nerves on edge and making her heart beat at a dangerously accelerated pace. His lips were fire and ice, consuming and encompassing, stealing her breath and giving her life. Alex didn't even have time to react, his strike was so sharp and sudden, catching her when she couldn't have possibly expected it less.

He let her go, and her body betrayed her. Her legs weakened her her knees gave out completely, dropping her onto the bed gracelessly, landing in a seated position with her eyes staring at the wall where the white-haired man had been mere moments before. Alex only vaguely heard his angry words, but she couldn't make sense of any of it. The kiss, his anger, how he left her there. Desire and loathing singed her skin, making her muscles tighten, her expression contort into unhindered rage and loss, her hands starting to clench--

It was only when she felt the wire biting into the soft flesh of her palm, did she realize she still had his glasses in her grasp. Burning green eyes blinked down at them, realizing that she'd both have to see him again and somehow be civil about it. Her body sung with tension and agony, yearning and rejection, and it was the single most painful and euphoric experience of her short life. That man had her dancing to his tune, and she didn't know if she loved him or hated him for it.

It would take a while before she could stand again, and when she did, she would start to clean up the mess that he never asked about. She would make sure to set her boxing gloves aside, placing his glasses under her pillow for the time being. She had a lot of emotions to release before she could see him again, and she owed a certain red-head a dire apology.

Alex couldn't tell if this was the best or worst day she'd had in a long time. Staring at the pillow where his glasses were secured, she murmured between flushed lips, "See you at dinner."
