turayza That would be very fun. But there's also the problem of availability--the people on the team would probably switch around for the different games throughout the year. Finding the snitch would be very complicated though. You can't search for content--if it's in this guild, it would be a bit too easy while if it were placed in another guild, the search might take a long time. Also, the snitch couldn't be placed in a private guild...I don't know, maybe the snitch could be hidden in our guild, and moved once a day by someone who isn't playing in the game. (But placed somewhere starting on, say, halfway through the month?) If we get this to work, I'd love to keep the score. Though if we didn't have enough people on the team (I'm a Ravenclaw) I'd be willing to be a beater... Oh yes, for the chasers, how would we measure advancement accross the field? Possibly by the moves (of the other players, passing the ball/trying to steal the quaffle)? How big should our online field be? Also, unless there is a lot of activity and the players can actually go to gaia every day, the Quidditch matches might last...a very long time. Very nice input. Let's see how well I can pick it apart!
I thuroughly agree with the switching around of the players! That will most definitely be vital, hence the BU's and the like! Thinking about it more carefully, if this becomes a success, the MORE BU's we can add, the better! But for now, we're focusing on the required amount of 7 players to a team. This will most definitely have to grow, so we can do the switching around!
Ah, the ever-diffult way to figure out how to do the snitch. I see how it would be MUCH more difficult if the snitched is placed outside of the guild, but placing it outside would heavily decrease the possibility of cheaters revealing it's location; and with Madame Hooch's GOOD clues, it may not take as long as you think.
Yes, private guilds would not be possible. I'm thinking of keeping it within the Gaia forums, on other people's profiles (with their permission, of course.) Places where we can post it without getting in trouble! >.0
Hrrrmmm. . . This question totally went over my head: "Oh yes, for the chasers, how would we measure advancement accross the field? Possibly by the moves (of the other players, passing the ball/trying to steal the quaffle)? How big should our online field be?"
Look under "Gameplay," and find the bit on "Carrying the Quaffle." Is this what you're talking about? If not, try asking me again . . . and slower! I have a slow brain! xp LOL!
And if time is a concern, we can always decrease the amount of beginning pp. I thought 1000 would cover it really well. It would give the Seekers time to find the Snitch, and for teams to make a good deal of points, but if the games are too long, we could decrease the pp. amount to maybe 500 pp., and give the Seekers even BETTER clues to speed it along!

Wow, T, this is amazing! I couldn't stop reading, I was all, "OMG THAT'S SO COOL THEN WHAT?!" xd
I think it's an awesome idea. The Seeker things does seem to be a problem...I have a suggestion, but I'm not sure if it's good...
The thing is, I think hiding the snitch in other guilds might be a little too difficult, and indeed, hiding it right here at Haven is too simple. So what if the Snitch was in several pieces, as opposed to a whole? Then each piece could be hidden in a specific forum/topic at the Haven, and Madam Hooch's clues would lead the Seekers to those forums/topics. Then, once they have all the IMG codes copied, they'd bring the "pieces" to the field, and the first to bring them all is considered the catcher of the Snitch. Again, I see many holes in my idea (like the "cheating" ordeal), but perhaps it will trigger better ideas in the minds of others. >_>;
The only other thing I was concerned about was the "devotion" of the players. I love Gaia, especially the lovely Haven, and I try to go on as much as I can, but there are times when I planned to but can't. Sometimes I have unexpected events popping up, or my computer fails, or a sibling is online and I am unavailable. And then there's the conundrum of me being on, and others being off! The only solution I see there is that we have plenty of team members, and that whenever a certain position is offline, one of the BU's claims the position and plays until they must leave. Agreed, the games may last long that way, so there may have to be a limit - once the time limit is exceeded the game is called off, perhaps.
Well, that's all I have to say (at least, that I can think of xD). The idea is ingenious, and I truly hope it will be put into play (no pun intended ^-^).

Ok! Time to look at what you've got for me! ^^
You're snitch idea is another GREAT one! I see why the whole "copy-paste" of the image is a problem, but it comes with an easy solution! The Seekers must describe, in detail, where they FOUND the image! They would HAVE to know where it is/have found it this way.
The only problem I see here is the "cheating" bit. Could we trust our fellow guild members enough to have them not cheat? . . . I would LOVE to say YES, but I don't want to tell a lie (if it is one!)
Yes, the "Devotion" area is probably the most difficult for us all. How about we make the option availible to STALL a game? Say, maybe one of the teams has most of their players unavailible. The Captain could call for a STALL, and the game could be reschedualed? BUT, we can't have STALLS all the time, so how about we give each team Captain 3 STALLS which they can use. The first team to run out of STALLS forfiets the game!
That AND plenty of players, may make the game of Quidditch a BIT more flexible "Devotion" wise. 3nodding
OOOOH! BREAKING SUGGESTION:
Perhaps, instead of making 7 BU's PER TEAM, we could have a "stock pile" of BU's that ANY TEAM can use if one or more of their players needs to leave! THAT might work out better, and won't call for more people!

I think this is great. I agree with the idea of splitting up the snitch into segments and hiding them.
It might be a little complicatd if you hide them in other guilds but you could keep the hiding places to strictly Harry Potter guilds.
That could make it a lot easier. Hiding the segments on peoples profiles would work also.
I'll be happy to help with anything. Count me in!!!

+1 Hufflepuff Team member, if necessary (which it probably will be). 3nodding This is a confuzing thing. I have school on weekdays, so i would only be on for approximitly 2 hours a day><. I was then going to suggest Hosting a game on the weekends, but what about the people with jobs? Some people who work a supermarkets or places without definate hours, might have a problem reaching a computer to take part in the game. So maybe in the scedualed month of whichever game is to take place, we take the first week tring to arrangea kind of tame table......
I hope this makes sense to you'll because it barely does to me ><.

Yes, Saranis. Devotion has been the MAJOR concern for everyone, but we are making/have made several changes to help us decrease this problem as much as we can:
1.) We've added the "Stall" feature to Gameplay! This allows each, Team Captain 3 stalls which they can use during a game. A stall is used to post-pone the game due to lack of availible team mates. I know there are only 3, but there has to be a limit.
2.) We are most likely going to make BU's more like a "stock-pile" collective instead of giving each team 7 of them. This way, whenever ANY player is missing from ANY team, the Team Captain(s) can pull a BU to play for their team. This does mean, however, that people from different houses would be playing for different teams. This may not settle well with others, but it's an exceptionally good idea to help decrease the amount of necessary players. This also makes the amount of BU's practically unlimited!
3.) If we do NOT have enough people for 4 teams, we may settle for 2, House-Meshed teams. Meaning 7 people from different houses on each team. This is not as competitive, and not our most favored option, but it stands as a last resort; considering we already have enough people poll-wise to do this.
4.) Another thing I, pretty much being selected as Madame Hooch, will DEFINITELY put alot of effort into schedualing. It will be up to the Team Captains to provide a list of possible days during the month that most of/all of their players will be present. These lists will be given to me, Madame Hooch, and I will look at these dates to decide on a best, possible one. If that doesn't work, then we'll change it to another day and so on.
5.) I'm REALLY an easy going person. You most likely will NOT be kicked out if you explain that you will be gone to I, Madame Hooch, or your Team Captain. We all have lives, and I understand that. Heck! Even I have one! BUT if you ARE going to be gone/leave, LET OTHERS KNOW ABOUT IT so we can make proper preparations for your departure; like assigning BUs to take your place! PLEASE don't leave us hanging!
If there's something we need right now, it's PLAYERS! Everything we're talking about CAN'T happen unless we have players, and PLENTY of them!

OOOH! Brownie Points to Evasive Moon! That is so flippin' cool! To split the snitch into quadrants and hiding them in this guild and others so that the clues can lead to different places. Indeed, Madame hooch can give out four basic clues, and then gradually add more... (just saying IF the snitch were split in four pieces... I don't KNOW how many...one time it could be four, another it could be five-) That makes it more interesting, and somewhat more difficult.
Personally, I think if clues are given well, one should be able to "SEARCH" for it, or use their brains to put riddles and such together. This would make it so it wasn't just a race between seekers.
About the measuring of how far the chasers are, there could be a certain amount of questions that NEED to be answered in order to get to the goal posts. Like, when you think of a football field, how many questions should it take to equally make it to the other teams side...that could be something the goal keeper does....here-let me try and explain:
Let's just pretend that you need to answer 6 questions (this isn't set in stone, don't beat me up if you don't like it, it is just an idea) So if you are the chaser and you have answered four questions towards the opposing teams goal posts, then let's say the question is asked, and you lose the quaffle. Then the other team would have to answer four questions to get it back-with me? It's just a thought to keep in the diameter in how this whole thing would work. Please broaden on that idea, I am not quite thinking at full speed at the moment...my brains are a bit scattered, lol.

Alright! We've got a GREAT handful of players coming along! And, I've had yet ANOTHER idea!
Since we have about 20 players who are willing to participate, we could simply decrease the number of main players a bit. This wouldn't be EXACTLY with the Harry Potter rules (because there are ALWAYS 7,) but it's something we can change if necessary!

Hey, I'm good with about anything. We knew from the beginning that we couldn't have it EXACTLY like what is in the book, because we're not participating in actual life activity. I'm eager for all of this to begin, and you have my support and undivided offer to assist you in any way. I would love to help you set this up, and do whatever you need help with, if you NEED help, you seem to have it all figured out. ^-^
Thanks for thinking this up, it is really well done. I think that this will be lots of fun.

I think that BUs should be available to everyone, but for each +1 (insert house), that house should get 5 points.
=
I dunno. One way to encourage and get points, too!
xD
But BUs, again, should be accessible for all teams seeing that most of us are in our busy academic "careers."

I'm not authorized to give out house points, but I'll drop the suggestion to the Guild Moderators! For now, all we're concerned is with getting enough people interested! We're getting SO close! Only 2 more people!
I'm thinking that as soon as we have 28 people interested, we'll host the Captain tryouts! For January, it will be the Captains' responsibility to gather as many team members as possible. By the end of January, we'll see if we've got four, whole teams! If not, we'll resort to making two, House-Meshed teams. 3nodding

Thanks SO much, BruisedNails! 4laugh Support RULES! IMPORTANT! This thread has been UPDATED!
Having compiled SEVERAL of the most favored ideas, the thread has been modified to become the MAIN set of rules/regulations we will use! It's sort of the "Second Draft" for how we're going to do Quidditch. If you've read it before, you may want to read it again to give it another look-over! (Frustrating, I know. That's alot to read, but I'm sure you can make it through!) It's not HALF as cluttered, and we have alot of things set in tape so it's not just a hodge-podge of ideas anymore! (Hee hee! Not in stone, but tape! Tape isn't permanent!)
Please look it over again if you can. You're feedback is STILL appreciated! whee
