Although still somewhat uncertain of his feelings, Aquene thought it would be best to let the matter drop, despite the rising urge to make sure everything was okay. She didn't want to lose her new best friend before she even had the opportunity to get to know him... but it was ultimately up to him what he shared with her, and when.

Shaking her head to clear her thoughts, she smiled brightly back at him as she noticed his rose-colored stare focused on her. Her tensed posture relaxed a bit as he smiled back at her, and the last of her doubts fled to a distant corner of her mind. Obviously, it would be a subject that would have to be broached eventually, but she would wait until he was ready.

The smile turned to a grin as he gestured for her to go first, keeping her gaze level with his a moment before she took off, flapping hard to rise above the clouds with a light-hearted laugh. She knew that he would probably overtake her in a matter of minutes, but she knew a couple tricks, and could use them to her advantage.

Looking over her shoulder as the wind blew through her flame-tipped locks, she called back teasingly. "Catch me if you can, slowpoke!" It was a childish challenge, but being in his presence was freeing, in a sense.

Belial, if he knew how to approach it, would have spoken his gratitude for her not pestering him about his reactions. In the end, he had evil blood in him, and he knew that he couldn't keep everyone safe from him if it ever became dominant. To have a friend that he felt he could get close to made the young stallion want to try harder to forget that he bore the wing of his crazed ancestor, and that he wouldn't have to worry about harming her.

Aquene certainly did fly quite fast, and he had to admit he was a bit stunned how quickly she rose above the clouds and took off. Her voice carried over the wind well, and at her words he rolled his pink hued eyes. "Shouldn't be too hard now, should it?" He murmured to himelf, and with one large flap of his wings, he brought himself higher, and then followed in the diection she had. She was still in range, however, which gave him some confidence. If she was gone from sight, he would have obviously lost and would not know where to look for her.

He didn't have to beat his wings hard against the air, but he had to beat them more than a Wind would have. Feathers made it easier to glide; pure bone and skin not so much. While flying however, trying to catch up the soft-pink mare with the sunset locks, he found himself getting a little competitive. His eyes were locked on her form, trying to figue out how exactly to simply overtake her. He didn't find her to be a fool; she obviously had some tricks.

He just had to wait and see what they were.

She was grinning brightly as they rose towards the clouds, trepidation completely forgotten in the joy of being in the air, where she belonged, in the company of someone she could already consider a close friend. Had she known what he was thinking, she would have immediately stopped to thoroughly convince him that she didn't care about the silly notion of his bloodline, and his crazy kalona grandmother could go straight to... well, maybe she wouldn't say that, but something along those lines. He wasn't a bad person- she could tell that much- and he didn't deserve to be worrying about such things.

Sensing his approach behind her, the grin widened as she turned to look at him over her shoulder. He didn't seem to be trying to overtake her yet... perhaps he was waiting for her to show him what she could do? Not one to disappoint, she darted to one side, doing a full barrel roll under him and taking off in another direction with a loud laugh. "You'll have to do better than that! C'mon, 'Lial!"

She scarcely noticed the nickname she had dubbed him with until a moment later- odd, but it fit somehow. Seeing the landscape below them change to a sandier one, she realized they were getting closer to their destination, and called back to him teasingly. "It's not too far ahead- if you want to beat me, you better step it up!"

He had been right, but she didn't pull the kind of tricks he was thinking of. He had thought she'd fall back and then knock him off course, or do something to slow him down... Though when the sun hit her mane at certain times, the color was mesmerizing, and that was enought to stun him. Belial wasn't one to be mesmerized for long however, and as soon as she took off in another direction and he took in her words, it was go time.

He hadn't caught onto the nickname at that moment, as he was too bus beating his wings nd catching up the te mare with the silken locks fast. When he was -almost- flying side by side with her, he decided to repeat the nickname with raised brows, careful not to smash his wings into her side, "'Lial? Are we getting lazy? How would you like it if I were to call you Quene?" He chuckled lightly, and with a mighty flap he pushed himself a head of her, his eyes locked on her compared to the surroundings. He had no clue where he was going, but she did. If he took one wrong turn, he'd end up elsewhere, and elsewhere was not somewhere he wanted to be.

"If the shoe fits..." she grinned over at him with a teasing expression, but wrinkled her nose at the prospect of her own nickname. "Yuck. 'Quene sounds like Queen. I'm not royalty. Although..." she deliberately gave him an appraising look, her gaze lingering on the rose in his mane, his elegant stature, and the pretty curls of his mane blowing about his form, "you look like you could be."

She snickered at this, but it wasn't a comment made entirely in jest. He did look like he could be royalty... a prince, perhaps. This came full circle and brought her back to the 'Prince Charming' discussion they'd had upon their first meeting. She fought to keep down her blush at the thought, raising her head and giving a playful glare at his form as he pulled out ahead of her. "Oooh, getting serious are we? Well, in that case..." she veered to the side suddenly, but turned it into a feint as she took off in the opposite direction, descending towards the treetops as her speed increased.

Her comment cause Belial to blink hard, confused. There was something royal about him? Feh. He looked more like a monster with a girly hairstyle, that's what. But apparently girls dug it for some reason. He didn't have a chance to verbally respond; she was already veering in a different direction, leaving him behind.

"Quene, queen? Well, it does sound the same, I guess... But as you said, if the shoe fits..." He murmured the words to himself, and by flapping his large wings faster, he dove and went to catch up with the pearl mare. He smiled and laughed a little, raising his brows, "Who says I'm serious? I haven't gotten serious yet." He smirked a little, and he pushed himself to go faster. It was a dirty move, but so what? When he was neck andneck with her, he easily maneuvered himself so that he knocked into her side lightly, though perhaps not enough to knock her off course.

There was an alterior motive to this... He was just curious if she'd react the way he planned.

"It certainly doesn't fit me," she admitted with a grin, deliberately brushing his side with a feathery wing. She found she liked the sound of his laughter, golden eyes softening at the sound as they pressed on in their game. She would have to try to draw it out of him more often... and avoid the kalona topic until he was ready to come out with it to her, since it seemed a volatile subject to approach.

One brow rose at the proclamation of his lack of seriousness in their game, one corner of her mouth turning upwards in the lopsided smile that her herdmate Shadow was famous for. "Not serious yet, hmm? Is that why you're falling behind?" The landscape below was becoming more rocky and uneven as they approached the oceanside cliffs she'd mentioned before, casting a brief glance towards the setting sun in the distance.

"Hey!" she called out indignantly, but laughingly, as he collided lightly with her side, maneuvering her own body so that she bumped him back, light laughter rising from her mouth to be carried away by the wind. The game was childish and immature, she was sure, but it was the most fun she'd ever had, and she wasn't about to put a stop to it just because it was unbecoming of a mare her age.

If she had said it was unbecoming of her to frolic in the sky, Belial would have scoffed at her. He thought it was amiable that somebody would be foolish with him and race without a care in the world. His smiled stayed on his lips as she bumped him back, and he was careful not to scrape his wing against her side. It would not be pleasant if she were to fall out of the sky, and it wasn't appealing to him at all.

He chuckled and he pushed away from her, once again putting more space between tem for their race. It was a little disappointing, even though he was the one who pushed away. He shook it off and looked beyond at the sunset, raising his brows, "So how long till we get there?"

"Hmmm, let's see..." she drawled, deliberately dragging out the words with a mischievious glint in her golden eyes, eyeing the terrain below them. As they cleared the last of the scarcely placed trees littering the landscape, she grinned, abruptly dropping from his side to dive downward with a playful shout of "We're here!" It was a bit of an underhanded trick, since she knew the way and he didn't, but if it was to ensure victory, she was sure he would have done the same.

Folding her wings to her sides in a graceful dive towards the ground, she hazarded a glance back at him to smile brightly. Her gaze lingered a bit longer than necessary, but turned back to her plotted course in time to flare her blue-feathered wings, slowing her descent until she hit the rocky ground at a run, not stopping until she skidded to a halt along the edge of a cliff.

An appreciative glance at the sun setting just over the horizon with the ocean in the forefront made her eyes glimmer in satisfaction, turning to gauge her companion's reaction.

Her words didn't travel very well on the wind, because when he heard them she had already been diving downwards. In attempt to catch up, he dove down too, but at a much faster speed than what was needed. She was graceful, an angel in the sky. He was a bumbling fool. He didn't catch her lingering gaze, but he did feel like she was watching him, and it did not comfort him to know she watched him hurry like an idiot.

He didn't slow as he landed, and so when he pulled up to land his hooves on the ground, Belial ended flying over the cliffside right past Aquene. And to think he had been doing quite well before! He rounded the cliff side easily enough, and it slowed his wings enough. Even though he missed the landing point completely, he had returned to it with a very graceful stop at the end... Though his mane was a complete mess. He shook out his bangs and kept his gaze dowanward, chuckling nervously.

"... Y-you win that hands down. I guess I got too confident or something." He said cooly, looking up at her compared to the scene ahead of them. He stopped however in word and step as he looked at her. There was something about the sunset and Aquene... Aquene was colore dlike a sunset... And nature was beautiful. Maybe it was the light or something.. But she looked--

He shook his head to rid himself of the thoughts, and once again sighed. "S-So the view is... Amazing..."

Screw suave.
Screw royalty.
He as a bumbling fool.

Grinning brightly as she watched his own descent, faster than her own, but a few feet behind, she once again admired the mechanics of his strangely built wings. All thoughts of his kalona traits were dismissed a moment later, however; amber hues widening in alarm as his larger form went careening past her own and disappeared over the edge of the cliff. Her heart leapt in fear as she called out his name and prepared to launch herself after him. "Belial!"

Her fear was abated a mere moment later, however, when his form reappeared at the rocky ledge, and he came to a graceful halt beside her own petite frame. She tried to laugh at her own foolishness- he had wings, and a fall from this height onto the sand and water certainly wouldn't kill him- but it came out as more of a nervous giggle, and she fought back the rising flush of embarassment. "You had me worried for a second, there. We'll call it a tie- I didn't exactly play completely fair. You are faster than me, after all."

His stuttering made her blink in concern and confusion- he hadn't done that before... was she making him nervous in some way? She hoped not; he was fast becoming someone she'd love to keep in her company for as long as possible, and making things awkward between them wouldn't help that cause at all. His lingering gaze made her wonder for a moment, however, before a rogue thought made itself known in her mind... as he expressed his like for the scenery, she wondered if he'd meant--?

No. That was a bad place for her thoughts to lead her. She had to agree, though- and his own colors looked particularly gorgeous, silouhetted against the setting sun--

No. Bad thoughts.

Clearing her throat to banish her own embarassment once again, she smiled brightly and nodded, turning to look towards the oceanside sunset. "I love it here, especially at this time of day." Taking a deep breath of the salt-scented ocean air, she hesitantly glanced towards his side, leaning her head against his broad shoulder before she had a chance to change her own mind and back out.

What was he even doing? He... Did he just hit on his best friend? It was a thought that was unpleasant to the stallion, and he had to look down in shame. But it was no lie. The view here was stunning, and so was she. He had a gut feeling that it was wrong to think so, but wouldn't it be rude to think his friend was ugly? Yes! So it was right to think she looked pretty. It was perfectly fine.

But then she lent her head against his shoulder, and while she admired the view he had to look away. He pretended to be looking off at another part of the sky, but really he was trying to compose himself. He knew the look in his eyes was probably a sad one, since he was now totally and utterly confused about his feelings. If she saw, he wouldn't know what to say. But it felt good, for her to lean on him. It was only afriendly gesture though, right? He swallowed hard and blinked hard, and finalized his "composure" by taking a deep breath.

"We'll have to come here again sometime, huh?"

Golden eyes were focused peacefully on the beautiful sunset horizon before them, blissfully unaware of the chaotic thoughts in her companion's mind at the moment. She felt him tense as she lay her head against his shoulder, however, and uncertainty welled up in her heart as she directed her gaze towards his own. Was it... too forward of her? He looked almost... sad... had she done that? The possibility hurt more than she would have cared to admit, although she didn't understand exactly how she could have elicited such a reaction from him.

Before she could open her mouth to question him, however, his own inquiry made her pause, a small, wistful smile curling her lips upward as she nodded against his broad shoulder. "That would be nice... if you wanted to, that is." Her stare lifted to meet his own once again, slightly pleading through the warm affection that graced its depths. "Is something wrong, 'Lial?" The unasked question that rang through the air was, 'Did I do something wrong?'

The faintest twinge of uneasiness nagged at her conscience as she considered her own actions, shifting her weight slightly in nervousness. What... exactly was she doing? Belial was her best friend- did she want to change anything about that? There was a part of her that insisted 'yes', that he could be the one that she'd always waited for... but if he didn't feel the same... did she really want to run the risk of ruining what they had? The thought sobered her, made an unfathomable sadness rise into her amber hues.

She was watching him, bu the tried very, very hard to keep his gaze ahead on the scenery ahead of them. He didn't want to look at her with sad eyes and confrim her suspicions that something was wrong. It would just complicate things if this happened, so he waited to look at her until she answered his inquiry. Belial smiled and looked down at Aquene, his eyes warm for the time being. "Of course I'd want too--"

Her question threw him off. He stared at her with furrowed brows at her question, and for a split moment didn't know how to respond. He was quick to shake his head however, displacing a few of his dark curls, "T-the only thing that's wrong is that this day has to come to an end. That's all." He gave a sideglance to the sky and then to her. He wasn't lying, as the fact that their time together was coming to a close was disheartening... But it wasn't the reason behind his "sadness".

It's not like he could be all 'cause I think I really like you' and expect her to feel the same. They had talked before on and off, and he had really liked their conversations, yes... And then this was the first day they actually spent together. He would hate to ruin the relationship they had and... He sighed inwardly as to not show his inner turmoil. He didn't want to be a danger to her. There was the voice every now and then in the back of his head that wasn't very pleasant. The voice of his grandmother he often assumed.

Belial just didn't want to be the one to hurt Aquene no matter what.

His refusal to look at her made her anxiousness rise, worry darkening the bright gold of her irises. She knew something was wrong, by the tenseness of his posture, and that look in his eyes... maybe she was wrong, maybe her actions had made him uncomfortable, and the possibility that he didn't want what she did--

The abrupt proclamation warmed her a bit, although she wasn't entirely convinced that he was being entirely forthcoming over the matter. Still, there was nothing to be done about it... after all, she couldn't simply point out that he wasn't saying something. Shifting her weight again, she let out a quiet sigh, letting her eyes slide closed and nuzzling her head into his shoulder again, consequences bedamned.

"Well, I hope there will be many more days like this in the future." It was all she could say. Had she known what he was thinking, what doubts he was having about his own ability to hurt her, she would have scolded and corrected him for it until she was sure he didn't think that way anymore. With things being as they were, however, she could only take a wild guess at what he was thinking, and made an attempt to assauge his fears blindly.

"Belial... you know I'm your friend, and that I'll always stand by you, right?" It was a rather vague statement, although intentionally so, hoping that it would relieve some of the doubts she suspected he harbored.
