gcanon15 I'm the cymbal captain at my school, so, natrually I love cymbals! Too bad we HAVE to be rotated every 3 years at most...meaning this is my last year ='[ . Oddley enough I'm also the youngest cymbal player...(I'm in 9th...the other one's in 11th...) Well, I guess I have to play flute next year... Hey! I'm the only frosh cymbal as well... ^-^ There's 4 all together. (Frosh-Senior) LOL

We got a new director for our winter drumline this year and he cut the cymbal part. So I'm stuck in Aux. I still play cymbals though, but I don't get to march :'[
We got 4th place in our last contest! -whoops-

hidden_shadow35 At my school, almost all cyms come on the line because they got cut from battery, or because we're frantically looking for someone to fill in. And it seemed like at least some people thought I was crazy for wanting to do cyms when I could get bass drum. On the line, we're often ignored. So I'm wondering... Are cyms usually so low, or is it just our school? Even on corps level... do people want it or are they placed on it after not getting batterie? To the edge of infinity...
well at our school we have one marching cym. he's really good at it so he's never yelled at. it's only the rest of the line hahaha
1st in our last comp ;D
... an invisible reality.

we don't really have a cymbal line. the pit just plays cymbals whenever we have to do parades and march and stuff. i don't really like playing cymbals. no one really cares about us, so they don't tell us what to do, but if we play something wrong they yell at us even though no one ever told us how we're actally suppose to play the stupid thing.
yeah...at the beginning of the year i really wanted to play snare. but i couldn't go to band camp cuz i go away to this thing every summer. so i got stuck in pit, which was alway my forte, but i just really wanted to be on snare. but now that i've been in band all year, i don't think i will leave pit. my best friend is on snare anyway, so i can just steal her music and play on my drumpad at home.
ok, back to subject, cymbals...don't like them very much...

Well i know our cymbol line had tryouts. I didnt get on bass so i went to cymbol but people who didnt get snare went to bass and so on. We had people rejected from the section.
Cymbol is a fun thing to play. Oh the visuals.... after you get enough endurace to hold the damn things up its pretty amazing.

That does sort of suck, but only if they're over 18 in. cymbals. Anything over is pure torture! I still love my cymbals and I don't really have a plan to move up to drum, unless my instructor needs one. Second semester cymbals are a thousand times better than fall semester! Cymbal visuals!!!! <3<3<3<3 heart

(Bass drum squats and holding out cymbals for hours on end... woot!)

cymbal players ARE NOT the worst at the corps level santa clara vanguard pacific crest
the cymbal players can all rock out on snare/tenor/basses as well as the other players. They chose cymbals because it's FUN and INTENSE at the corps level
the lowest thing only applies to high school marching band.

Well, I play oboe, so I had to play cymbals when we're playing at the football games. It's actually pretty fun to play even though they were really heavy for me. I got some serious muscles from lifting those things...

Mwaahahahaa! At our school, the cymbals were rarely used until I picked them up and started kicking a** with them. We don't even have the proper grips for twirls, but I suffered the bruising just so I can twirl 'em and spin 'em. And they're very heavy, to.
I want to polish them so when I spin them, they flash more, and so I can blind a few of my fellow percussionists. Cymbals add so much color to an otherwise repetitive cadence. And I'm doing it alone, but I try. Carrying those heavy things high in the burning desert sun of New Mexico, with a heavy, dark uniform (black hats too), suffering the bruises willingly, and not being a single millisecond behind...ah, the good ol' days! I can't wait for Marching Season to come back!
