Wow. I've been away from this guild for awhile. Got a lot of catching up to do.

Honestly, I love the Anita Blake world. The books? Well not so much anymore. Anita Blake used to be awesome, and still is in earlier books. I was fine with the sex, until it began to replace the plot. I wonder if things'll change in this new book? Maybe so. I still have to finsih the last book "The Harlequin." Although, now I'm half way tempted to skip it. Sure, Anita Blake is awesome, her world and her earlier character, but now. Well it's all sex, and she's basically a Merry Sue character now. She's on her way to becoming a Goddess of that world.

However, this next book will have Jason. I love Jason, he's such a fun character! Hopefully it won't just be about the ******** and mommy dearest, hopefully he really will have a role in this. It'll be interesting to see how he interacts with his family.

Today I check out The Harlequin in paperback which had some scenes of Blood Noir in it. As I was reading it I thought Laurell should have keep it a short book like Micah. Jason's great and everything but just Anita and Jason though most of the book...well I'm gonna miss the other recurring characters. Like in OB. I like the book but I miss the other characters that kinda ruin some of the fun.

Also as I was reading the Blood Noir previews I had this feeling that Anita is going to do something that is going to make me really disappoint in her. For some reason (and I hope that I'm wrong) I got this feeling that Anita is going to have sex against her will because of the ardeur and proubly with a new guy. Eww I hate just think about it. I hope Anita has more control then that.

Well she has been getting better control of the ardeur so I really don't think it will be with someone regretable all on her own. Maybe Graham but still, that's not terrible. I'm more afraid that Belle will try calling her ardeur as payback for saving them last time and forcing her to do something unfortunate, which will probably destroy some piece of her.

And as for it just being Jason this time, I actually skipped OB because of the lack of recurring characters but Micah was pretty good. If it had been a longer book I probably wouldn't have liked it but Laurell kept it the way it should be- a weekend away just the 2 of them. I hope she does more with the other characters too though, maybe make it a trip and then some emergency calls them home shortly after the ordeal with Jason's dad is finished. That would be pretty cool.

Yea I like Anita too much that I don't want her to destroy any part of herself. cry

I like that Micah was short and from reading the previews of Blood Noir that should have stay short too but theres suppose to be major action with the Mother of vampires so maybe thats why its so long. I like your idea with the trip being cut short. I wish that would happen. Without the recurring characters if gets a bit boring and harder to read.

I so agree about loving the world and the earlier books. The ONLY reason I picked up the Harlequin was because I'd heard Edward was back. Usually when Edward is present there's less sex, more killing, and more plot.

I love Jason, he's a fantastic character but I'm so ******** sick and tired of the sex taking over most of the book. I remember the first several books there was her personal life story line and then the crime she was working on. There hasn't been a crime with RPIT that she's been working on for almost three books, and if the chapters I've read for Blood Noir are any gauge there's not going to be a crime that's police type in this book either. I may read the book at the library, but I'm done buying the AB books.

Laurell has taken the sex too far, and the fact that she gets all defensive when her original fan base shows it's distaste for all the sex just solidifies that she's not going to go back to crime thrillers, they're going to stay in the romance section.

Anita was only involved in crime solving because RPIT needed her supernatural knowledge but now RPIT have a witch,Tammy on their team and Dolph who is in charge of RPIT can't stand Anita because of her personal life so I don't think Anita is going to be with the police any time soon.

Right, but my beef isn't with the characters, it's with their creator. Laurell K Hamilton has alienated her original fanbase and tries to explain it away as Anita being her camera into a world. I will admit that a character does take on a life of their own, but you can still decide what aspects of a character you'll show within the confines of a book. I have a problem with LKH deciding that sex is more important than character development, plot, tying up plot lines, or making sure her readers know who's who in the Anita Blake world.

When LKH first introduced the sex scenes I really didn't have a problem with it, it was one sex scene a book and it lasted maybe 5 pages out of several hundred. Now her books easily have a majority of their pages discussing sex, depicting sex, or explaining how something isn't a sexual look or touch though it could be.

I feel that Laurell is trying to cover the lack of plot development or the tying up of loose ends by giving Anita new powers and introducing Marmee Noir. We're three books into Marmee and we still don't really know who she is or what she wants with Anita or Jean Claude.

I'll probably continue to read the series, but I'm done giving Laurell my money when her books aren't as good now as they used to be.

I just realize that I was right though it was actually two new guys. I wanted to cry. I wish I was wrong. crying

But u have to take into account that LKH did refrain from writing every detail of every sex scene! (says a prayer of thanks for that one) And really there was not much actual sex in the book, just talk of, but that actually led into the plot at times.

I personaly loved learning more about Jason, and his new realationship with Anita will help when Richard is being an a**. As for the new Tigers, its cool to find out more about on of her beasts. Expesualy win they have such a closed culture. As for the sex, come on, its Jason. ^-^ We all know he's a horn dog. biggrin

And what about Richard geing his own Ardeur. I mean, who saw that coming!?! I'm glad that Anita found somthing other then lust to feed on. At lest anger dosn't involve sex. although that dons't mean that she wont have to feed the Ardeur also. I can't wait untill the next one. biggrin

I don't think Anita is actually going to be feeding off anger. I mean, if she is well; it wasn't written like that to me. It just seemed to me that she took back her rage from Richard, and that's the end of that.
But I really dunno, maybe you're right and i'm way off.
And I know, Richard having his own Ardeur, that was a complete shocker.
