Bri pursed her lips in thought. "Hmmm, must have been atleast a month, I kept myself out of trouble that long." She laughed and sipped again at her cidar, smiling at her friend.

"And oh the stories I have to tell you." She new he would enjoy that, she had brought him tales of diffrent worlds and diffrent places, tales of comedy, woe and heroics.

Barlow perches on the edge of his seat when Bri mentioned stories. "How wonderful! You always bring the most marvelous tales."

His eyes land on the mug in Bri's hand. "Ah," he said, "That's right, the cider is ready. Miles-" he stops short and laughs as he sees that Miles is already at the door with a second saucer, mug and cinnamon sticks.

"Have I really gotten that predictable, or are you just that good at your job?" he asks the butler.

"Well," Miles answers as he carefully hands the saucer to Barlow, "Accusing you of being predictable would of course be quite rude, sir."

"I suppose that leaves us with only one option, then," replied Barlow. "Thank you, Miles."

"Now then, Bri," he said, stirring the cider with a cinnamon stick. "I'd like to hear all about those stories you mentioned."

Bri grinned slyly, "Oh, this one is full of runaway princesses, a totalitary races trying to conquer there plane, a captured survivor, a floating castle and the most marvelous architecture...though I must say, its because of those darned mazes I'm here." Her ginn widened.

"My story is that of Tarsarus, the cursed world that was cast from earth long ago. They out did any of the alantians in technology and rivaled that of Ghangis Khan and Verdemeer of the Dark Votex. These people are so twisted in there ways that they travel their planes in search of hostages to experiment there newest weapons, potions and magics on. Tarsarus is a giant slab of floating land with a its highest peek reaching hights that Mt. Everest could never have fathomed. Around this mountainous terrain is a great black gate, or more of a wall...or bridges of walls....or networks of bridges to make the walls. Anyways, none the less it was magnificent and it was this wall that circled the entire floating island that housed these bitter and cruel Tarsarians."

Bri took a sip of her cider, pausing for a breath. "Now it is the torturious place that I found myself being towed off to by these beastly lizard creatures, that I'm sure were once humans. You can just feel it in them but there conscious has been tested and tortured out of them. Anyways, so I'm sitting in a cell, the man across that has been so chained to the wall. I think I was in the same predicament as him but I can't remeber that part clearly. Anyways, those creatures came and kicked him around a bit and then injected some blue stuff into him, chaining him up again. I nodded in and out of sleep and a vaguely remember a woman combing and going. She smiled at me once when she caught me awake, turned out she was a princess and she was helping us. Finally she broke us out and we fled to wilderness, with those creatures chasing after us."

Barlow sips his cider as he listens intently. "Remarkable! I would very much like to see this land some day" he said as Bri paused in her story. "Was the blue fluid a part of the process that converts one into a lizard creature? And was the princess from a royal family of Tarsarus itself?" A soft grin spreads across Barlow's face as he speaks. "Or am I getting ahead of the story?"

"Oh no, they fine questions. Yes, the blue syrium was as I was told a new breed for the lizard creatures, the princess though...I'm not quite sure about her. The king reveered her and she had free access and safty...well for the first part she did, now I'm getting ahead of myself." Bri laughed and looked down at her warm drink, the cidar swirled around in the center and she continued.

"Damian was the name of the man who escaped with us. Sarah was the name of the princess, they seemed to know each other. I don't understand there background story very much, but that is diffrent all together. So here we were running for our very lives across this terrain, it was wickedly terrible out there, the air was freezing and there was no day light. They lived in constant darkness, there sky was lit by a single crecent shaped moon that never rose or fell, it stayed suspended all the time, it was red to, a dark crimson color." Bri shuddered at the memory. "So for days we wondered about, evading the Hunters, thats what those lizard things were called. Sarah was surprisingly brilliant at scaveging and was a perfect runaway princess. I noticed something betweent eh two, Damian and Sarah, I do believe they were forbiddenly in love. Anyways, though, We finally ran into the other side of the island, cornered up against the agate stone. The hunters captured us again, sarah was taken away. I odn't know what they did to her at this point for Damian and I wore locked in another cell."

"The king came in, he was like the Hunters but he was more dragonesque, he breathed acid and drank chemicals. The king though took Damian with not so much but a glance in my direction. I sort of felt like a third wheel in this story a bit of just the tag along. So as it goes, I don't know the time that passed there, time was an idle thing. I shifted inbetween consciousness and the dream world."

"Finally, Sarah came again she unlocked my binds and told me to go. She looked so sad, I didn't dare ask what they had done to damian in fear of what she might answer, or what she might not. So instead, I took of like there was no tomarrow and here, I did believe that was so. The Gate, as the called it, is a maze of hallways and bridges spanning out over rushing waters that fall off the end of the island into nothingness. I ran forever, I could hear the hunters behind me, at points I could feel they'r acrid breath on the back of my neck but I kept pressing forward. I don't know where the strength came form to do so, but I did. I was at my wits end when I hit a dead end. It was wall and a door, I prayed that it would lead me out and I swung it open and fell off the edge of the world. Landing here in a bout of nasty weather." Bri grinned as her tale came to a close, she was quite proud of the experience really.

Barlow chews idly on the end of a cinnamon stick as he listens. When Bri's story is over, he says "That sounds like quite the ordeal. It's a shame that things did not appear to turn out more happily for Damian and Sarah, but it warms my heart to see you safe. I'm glad that the journey brought you to my door again, although I do apologize about the poor weather."

Barlow sat back in thought for a moment, then said "Your story reminds me, in a way, of one I knew a long time ago. Should you be interested, I may be able to recall it again if you give me a moment.

((OOC: a rather long moment IRL, actually. I can't stay online for very much longer.))

Blake declined Miles' offer. As Bri was telling her story to Barlow, he was actually examining the whole house. Barlow did seem nice but it is odd for anyone to be that nice. There had to be a secret hidden because well, everyone has a secret.

"Oh, I would be delighted to hear it. And the weather is fine....its passable" She changed her mind with a grin and took another sip at her cidar. "I do love a good story."

Blake declined Miles' offer. As Bri was telling her story to Barlow, he was actually examining the whole house. Barlow did seem nice but it is odd for anyone to be that nice. There had to be a secret hidden because well, everyone has a secret.

((So, is Blake wandering through the house, exploring on his own while Barlow and Bri are in the sitting room, or is he in the sitting room absorbing details there? Let me know, and I'll describe what he finds. Oh, and if he is wandering around, please let me know if he's making any attempt to be stealthy or avoid attention. I'll start with the Hall that the foyer leads into, since Blake would have had plenty of time to examine it regardless of where he went.))

The main hall of the house has a very high ceiling that encompasses the second floor as well. A grand staircase faces the front door and leads to a balcony that extends all around the edge of the room. The floor is a dark slate tile, but the middle of the room is dominated by a thick Persian rug. Light is provided by a chandelier of a simple but elegant design. The wood fixtures, such as the trim on the walls and doorframes, the handrail on the stairs, etc, are all a dark wood with a hint of red, possibly bloodwood or a polished mahogany.

As one looks around the hall (and the house in general), one might gradually get the impression that the architect was only paying lip service to the laws of Euclidean geometry. Almost as though they realized it would be expected of them. Or perhaps they thought it quaint, so they chose to incorporate it into their design. Either way, there is something decidedly... unreal about the house.

"Ah, now, let us see..." Barlow said, sitting back in his chair and sipping his cider. "This story is also one of forbidden love. It is about a poet and a princess. You must forgive me, for I do not know either of their names. By the end of the story, you will understand why that is so. But for now, they must simply be known as the Poet and the Princess.

The story is set in the ancient Kingdom of Tsaonast, homeland of a mighty empire. The empire was, in fact, so vast and powerful that the only lands in the known world that were not under their control were excluded by choice. The King of Tsaonast was also the Emperor of a hundred tribute nations. The source of the Empire's strength came not from armies, but from the fact that their priests could bind the gods themselves to their will. It takes place almost 3,000 years after the first Tsaon Emperess bound the mighty river god Hastin-Ra, before the secret techniques of god-binding had been forgotten and..."

Barlow pauses for a moment and smiles.

"Ah, but now I digress into the boring vaults of history. I believe this story was about a Poet and a Princess..."
