Getting up on her tiptoes she reached for the topmost shelf, finding a large book of maps. "I think we might have to ask someone," she told him as she pulled the tome down, finding it only had eagle's eye views.

"We could try looking them up online," he said as he looked at the pictures. He wanted to be taller, darn it! To be able to reach the top shelves with a classy move, making him look princely and helpful. Taller was better, he decided.
"We should think of what we're going to say when we show them the model," he added.

"Yeah," she said quietly, not wanting to mention that she didn't have a computer at home. "I think we should talk about what usually went on, you know? Like people bathing and praying," she offered, thumbing through the pages, "Or the way the water got there."

He didn't have a computer, either, actually. He was heading for the computers in the library to look it up. "Um... do you have any dolls you could use for that? I don't really have many toys, I'm afraid. Other than a water gun and some books."

"I don't really have many dolls," she admitted, "But I guess I could make some, I have plenty of fabric." It wouldn't take that much, she decided, a knot for the head, a little roll for the body. She could even color some of the ones standing around the edges the different toga colors. This might actually be fun. "What about the building? Should we use clay or something?"

He grinned at her. "We can use playdough," he said easily. "Because it's cheap and they expect grade schoolers to use that sort of thing. Or, if you're wanting to make it a little nicer, paper mache and paint."
He hesitated then, looking at the computer screen for a long moment. "I'm surprised, actually. I would have expected you to team up with Harper for this. I mean, since you two seem so close."
Maybe she wanted a good grade, he thought dryly.

Manuela flushed a deep red, hanging her head over the desk. "I um, I'm not really allowed at his house anymore," she explained, "Had a little trouble with his mom." Not that she wasn't happy to be here. "It's not like you and me are strangers," she said oddly, "I mean, you think of me as a friend, right?"

He smiled, none of his thoughts showing on his face. "Of course I do," he said sweetly. Even though they hadn't hung out together since Harper grew up. Suuuurrre he thought of them as friends. Right.
Seriously, though, it figured Harper had gotten her into trouble. He pulled out a pad of paper and a pencil from his bag, starting to draw the temple. "We can use cardboard and tape for the base, then cover it with paper mache, which we can paint. Father has lots of paints."

I could make some curtains, they liked luxurious things," she offered, hovering over the pad, "Burgundy maybe, or white linen." She thought about it for a moment, trying to remember what goddess the baths were in honor of. "And a little statue and altar. Of um... Do you remember who it was for?" she asked embarassed, hanging her head in her hand.

He read quickly then pointed at the screen. "Sulis, or Minerva for the Romans. Sulis is the goddess of spring water." He clicked on the names to show her what he meant.
"I don't know if we'll be able to fill the baths with water, though, it might not work with paper mache." He paused. "Unless we coat it with plastic for that part. Or waterproof paint, I guess."

"Mm," Manuela hummed softly, trying to think of an alternative. Carting something with water in it would be kind of messy, especially if they had to take it to school. And if it was paper mache. That wouldn't be good if it got all sticky and started to fall apart. "Mama showed me how to make this hard gelatin stuff, we could dye it blue with food coloring."

He nodded. "That sounds like an idea," he agreed before printing out the pages on the library printer. "So shall we go buy a newspaper?"

She nodded clumsily, fumbling for her wallet, "We could go to my house to work on it if you'd like, or I can meet you at yours sometime." She remembered that there was a service that afternoon, and that she was supposed to be there to light the candles. "At least I could start making the dolls and things," she offered, "Since I think I have to leave soon. So, does that sound like a plan?"

"Of course," Antony said with an easy smile that once again didn't quite reach his eyes. But his eyes were a gleaming blue, so it didn't get noticed by those not looking too closely. "But maybe we should do it at your place, my uncle Jack has strange... hobbies."

"Ok," she agreed hesitantly, scribbling her address on a scrap of paper, "But I have to warn you it gets noisy. Mama Estelle leads a parish, and our apartment is just the attic above the church." She failed to mention that it was also in one of the poorest neighborhoods in the city, and for a moment she had decided not to. But one thing stuck out in her mind. "And don't wear all that gold when you come," she advised him, offering the paper.
