She fidgeted a bit under his wing as they continued closer and closer to the mountains. She was slightly taken aback by his answer. It was quite a strange response.
"The fires in the mountains?"
She suddenly stopped dead in her tracks, refusing to move forward another inch.
"Wait! I-I've changed my mind! Or at least, I want to think about it a little bit more."
She glared at him now, her horn pointed at him again. Her stance was suddenly defensive, and her heart was pounding.

Hmmm. That horn again. What a nuisance.
Lifting his wing, he side stepped away from her and folded it against his side once more. Eyes flashing dangerously as his tail snapped in an irritated fashion. Too fast it seemed.
"I thought you wanted to leave this place. But I guess I was mistaken if you are having second thoughts." He'd play it cool for now. Restraining his thoughts of outright attacking for the moment. Barely acknowledging her defensive stance and brushing it off, he moved past her. Heading towards the mountains again without her this time, though he kept his pace slow. Just in case.

She stood there, watching him as he walked away from her. It was happening again! Somebody was leaving her! But had his kindness been real? She couldn't help but feel that there was something behind what he was doing. But she so longed for companionship...
"Wait!!! Don't leave! Please! I just....I want to go...I'm just a little scared."
She felt pathetic as she watched him and her knees began to shake again and her eyes began to well up again.
"Don't leave me, too..." Her voice was thin and breathless. She hung her head, completely ashamed of herself. This was now the second time she had broken down in one day.

He stopped in mid step. A single hoof dangling in the air before he set it down softly. A wicked grin spreading across his face again as he kept his back to her. The end of his tail moving back and forth slowly.
Perhaps he wouldn't be heading home without success.
"What do you have to be afraid of....?"

She shivered where she stood, finding the fact that he didn't face her to be even more frightening. She sniffed a few times, trying to collect herself, and sighed, taking a step towards him.
"You just....you seem a little...frightening. There's something about you...I don't know what it is, but every time I try to trust you, something screams at me not to go..."
She sniffed again, taking one more step forward. She didn't want to get too close, but she didn't want to stay too far away for the risk of seeming like she changed her mind. She didn't want to be left alone.

Valarauco continued to stand there. Almost rigid as he listened to her speak. "Ever heard of the phrase 'A rose by any other name would smell as sweet'. Don't judge a flower by its name. Something that could be called a stink flower could actually be very sweet smelling. The same could be said for any Soquili you meet."
It was time to change tactics a bit now. She was having doubts. And her doubtfulness would lead to him ending up empty handed. "Don't judge before you know."

She considered this for a moment, watching the firey Kalona as she did so. Perhaps he was right. Maybe she should just give him a chance and go with it for now. She sighed and nodded, now moving back to his side.
"Ok, then...lets go."
She walked beside him, feeling the warmth from his body, which was nice, considering that she was still a bit cold from the snow.

As she moved to walk next to him again, he turned his head subtly to glance at her for a brief moment. If it weren't for his disturbing looks, the grin that played around on his lips might of looked normal. If a bit twisted.
He started his walking again. Keeping to a steady pace. They would reach the mountains soon. And then...
Then...
Well he had practically all the time in the world to figure out the smaller details. Though he practically struggled to spew out the next sentence he spoke. "I'm glad to see you are going to accompany me then."

She nodded as he spoke and stayed by his side. She was now ignoring the voice in her head that told her to leave. It had become significantly softer, so it was a lot easier to ignore. She looked up at him, along his firey body and frowned a bit.
"Will you stay by me? Always? You said I wouldn't be alone anymore."
She looked up at him, her eyes pleading with him to promise that he would be by her side, that he wouldn't leave her alone...that he would end her pain.

His ears perked forward as she spoke again. Pleading with him and asking if he would stay. Of course he would. Until she breathed her last breath. Maybe a little bit afterwards even.
Glancing at her once more, he draped his wing over her once more in reassurance. "I promise. Your loneliness is practically almost over." The Kalona's eyes shot towards the mountains looming closer as they moved. "I hope you don't mind a small trek a bit up into the mountains."

Looking ahead at the rocky mountains, she shook her head.
"No, I don't mind. But what will we do once we get there?"
She was a little curious about what he planned to do with her. He promised that she wouldn't be alone anymore, but she didn't completely understand why they had to go to the mountains to do that. Perhaps it was just because that was his home. After all, he said he was born of the fires inside the mountain. She swished her heavy tail in the snow as they continued.

"We'll head inside the mountain where its warmer. There are caves and tunnels that run through the rock. Since the winters are a bit harsher there we can't stay outside for too long." His tail moved back and forth slowly. Hovering inches above the ground.
Valarauco never took his eyes off the mountains. So close. Soon he'd be home and on his own turf. "After that. Well...I suppose thats up to you."

Well, she was kind of right. It sounded nice and warm in there. She could already feel how much colder it was going to be from the drafts coming down from the mountains to where they were now. As they walked further forward, she could feel them stronger and stronger. She looked back up at the Kalona and smiled a bit.
"Its up to me? Well, what is there to do there? Or maybe we can just sit together and talk for a while. I'd like to get to know you better."
Indeed, he did seem like a very interesting individual. Perhaps she could learn something from him.

The ground started to climb upwards now as they reached the base of the mountains. Cold winds that whipped along its snow covered face bothered him and he would much rather make this trip as quickly as possible. The warmth of the caves and tunnels calling out to him like a siren's song.
He raised a subtle eyebrow. Get to know him better? Well, yes, in a sense she would get to know him better. "You could explore the tunnels if you wish." Pausing only for a moment as he moved onto a path that headed upwards at a steeper angle. "If you wish to talk then we can talk." If she decided to explore the tunnels then it would make for a better chase. Like a mouse in a maze.

She climbed up the sloping land, slipping a bit on the snowy ground, but recovering quickly. She shivered as the cold drafts became stronger and moved up a little bit closer to his warm body.
"Well, I wouldn't want to explore them all by myself. I wouldn't want to get lost. But if you go with me, it might be interesting. Since I'll be living there with you now, I should know my way around. But you'll always be there with me."
She giggled a bit for the first time in ages. She was becoming more and more excited about the prospect of her new companion.
