The golden eyed male looked out over the horizon. The change in the air whispered of the coming sun, the promise of daylight soon to come as the lazy sun would slowly rise over the savannah and bathe the earth in it's bloody reds and beautiful golds. He smiled at Bem, letting his eyes wander no where but in to her eyes.

"A few questions before the sun demands sleep." He smirked playfully bowing his head. He realised he had perhaps embaressed the pretty female with his doleful songs.

"Ladies first." He smiled lifting his gaze once again awaiting her first question.

Something in Horatio's voice made it seem like he'd gotten the wrong impression. She hadn't been embarrassed at all by the songs. She had truly enjoyed them. She just wasn't too skilled at showing certain emotions. She wanted to tell him as such, but wasn't sure how to approach the subject.

Her tail flickered slightly as she thought. Ah well, she'd bring the subject up again, but not immediately. She glanced at the skyline. They had maybe an hour or so before the sun rose. Part of her wanted the sun to rise, for the world to come awake, but another part of her was saddened that the night had to end.

"Alright. We'll start with an easy one. How long have you been a wanderer?"

It was indeed an easy question, but still Bem was slightly hesitant asking it. She lived the lifestyle too, but for some, it was a curse, this life. She didn't get a sense of that from Horatio at all, but still, some could be tense about it.

Horatio smiled, how much information he wished to give Bem resided onthis moment. It was a long answer and involved his family. His tongue lapped out at his own nose and lips before he answered the query, that seemed so easy to answer to Bem.

"I couldn't give you an exact time, my brother and I wandered for a long time after our mother died." He paused a gentle smile raising on his lips. "She was an old female, she lived a long life and was happy to slip in to the next world an aged lady." he raised a brow, he felt he had needed to clarify that.

"I lost my brother, perhaps a year ago now so I'v been wandering alone since then. It's not a bad life, especially when I find myself in good company." He smiled again then his calm voice never changing from it's soothing husky whisper.

"Your turn." He smiled, his answer had been as truthful as possible without going in to what had happened to his younger brother. He looked cheekily thoughtful for a long quiet moment. "Would you ever settle in one place?" It was a very forward question but he already knew she was a wanderer and repeating her question, he felt, would make him look very unimaginitive.

Bem smiled to herself. She liked Horatio's voice. It was very easy to listen to. She watched as Horatio very carefully chose his words and was glad that the question hadn't offended him. It seemed that he had a relatively happy childhood and was only slightly guarded about it.

"I'm sorry to hear about your brother," she said simply and sincerely. She didn't say anything else concerning the subject. If Horatio wished to tell her how he lost his brother, than he would. She wouldn't pressure him. Everyone had dark moments in their life.

Her tail swishing the rock beneath her, she contemplated his question for her.

"Yes, I suppose I would. If there was something significant enough for me to stay. I don't live for wandering. I just haven't yet found enough of a reason to stop."

She glanced at Horatio.

"Hmm. Another question for you... How do you feel about other species? Like the lions and the hyenas."

She was curious. She had met those who were very tolerant of others and those who were not. Sometimes the answer surprised her.

Horatio smiled lightly, he didn't need sympathy, the past was long behind hima nd although he often thought of his brother and the life they had before, the incident, he wasn't one to let it get in the way of his life.

"It was a long time ago now, it's not something you need to worry yourself about." he gave a breif nod his tail giving a gentle sway of a wag.

"Each creature has it's own way of life, you cannot tar all beasts with the same brush." it was a motto to live by and he wasn't likely to change that motto. Thigs had happened a long time ago and another species had been involed. He knew though that it was not fair to tar all creatures with that ghastly brush so he never did.

He looked to the sky for a moment then watching it slowly turn the blush of morning which would soon become the golden sunrise. "Do you always look this beautiful in the sunlight?" A small slip of a smile graced his maw as he watched Bem, it wasn't a serious question, but she did look even more wonderful bathed in the first ruby light of dawn.

Bem smiled appreciatively at his answer concerning other creatures. It was a good answer, one she respected. She had become friends with those prejudiced toward others, and though they were true friends to her, she couldn't help but find their views distasteful. She believed that no matter what the creature, if they give respect, they are deserving of respect.

She had to admit, though, his question threw her, as she blushed charmingly. First the mate and cubs comment and now this. Sure, she had been flirted with before, but she usually just smiled it off. The comment surprised her, coming from Horatio.

She didn't speak for a moment, but instead looked at Horatio full in the eyes, trying to see what his intentions were. He didn't seem like the kind who would be joking. Or the kind who would just flirt for fun. It was then that she decided she really liked Horatio.

So with a grin, she answered.

"Well, I'm told I look best at sunset actually." She chuckled slightly.

"And are you always this charming?"

A gentle laugh followed her question and his gaze left hers to watch the first shimmering rays of the sunrise crest the horizon. He closed those golden orbs for a long moment becoming bathed in the deep crimson of dawn. "Only to those whom deserve the praise." It was a deeper answer than perhaps he meant it to be but he had answred truthfully.

His tail gave a single wag then as he slowly turned those deep yellow orbs on the silvery blue female. "Come, you must be tired." A smile again then. He knew he should be tired to, but the feeling of this evening left him feeling wakeful, which was a strange feeling to have. Usually when dawn kissed the horizona nd after the new day had whispered it's hello's in his ear, he felt exhausted and was glad to retreat to the den he had picked for the days rest.

Strange then to feel restless? He shrugged off the feeling by standing with a graceful flourish tilting his head downwards towards the dark space between the rocks below. "Ladies first."

Bem took the advantage of Horatio's turning to stifle a yawn. She didn't want to be rude, but she was getting tired. It had been an uneventful but long day, followed by a short but interesting night, and it was starting to take it's toll. She was more than a little relieved when he suggested they go rest. But she was a little nervous too. Company had been becoming a foreign thing to her. But something in her said that she could trust Horatio.

So she shifted to her feet and followed the white male, who's coat began to shimmer a pale gold with the sun. She grinned when he stepped aside to let her in first.

"Ah, a true gentlemen," she said flirtatiously.

Wait, did I just flirt? Bem grinned to herself. Horatio was making her surprise herself. She strolled into the opening which opened up to a spacious, yet cozy cave.

Bem gratefully settled down off to one side, her gaze remaining on Horatio. She thought back to his last reply. 'Only to those whom deserve the praise.' She felt herself blush again.

The male dog gave a smile and a slow pant as he allowed Bem to enter first and take a comfortable possition near the rear of the den. So as not to crowed her he moved to one side and walked around in a corcle a few times before settling with his nose on his paws, his thick skull pointing towards the entrance.

He didn't mean to seem like a guard though he felt like one. The feeling of companionship, of friendship welled deep in his chest and made his heart skip a beat. he wanted to protect Bem. It wasn't an unusual feeling, he had wanted to protect his family too. He had failed in the past and though now there was no trials, or tribulations to overcome, he felt a soft responsability for the beautiful female whom had joined him in the full moons light.

Yawning he settled his head on his paws and with a mind full of duety, and the suns rays playing along his pale paws from the clear entrance to the den, he slowly slipped off in to a gentle sleep. The day he knew, after skleep, would bring many more questions. He would need a good rest to meet them.

Bem opened one eye to glance over at Horatio. The male was settled a polite distance away, near the entrance. His coat glistened with the small rays of sun that managed to penetrate the dark cave.

She smiled to herself. She had found a friend. A good friend. Maybe even something more. She wondered if it was fate that led her to the rock formation that night. Was it her destiny to meet Horatio?

Bem snorted inwardly. What was she going on about. She didn't believe in destiny. But still, it was odd that she met such a charming young male on such a lovely night.

A yawn interrupted Bem's thoughts. She smiled again and laid her head down on the cool stone. Whatever this meeting meant, thoughts would have to wait until later. For now, she needed sleep.
