From the Diary of Elda-Chan. . .

Dated: 2/2/2008

Dear Diary,

I found a new shop today that sells aromatheraputic incense. It was really a quaint little place, even if the smells were a bit overwhelming!

But away way, I’ve always enjoyed using incense, especially when taking a bubble bath and the shopkeeper talked me into buying a highly unusual scent. It’s a very bold combination of ylang ylang, clove, Indonesian red patchouli, and myrrh; very unlike anything I would buy on my own.

She said it was called Malice. Once again, not something I would normally go for, but she did swear by it. I let myself get bullied into things like this way to easily! Anyway, it would be a shame to let the perfectly good incense go to waste, so I’ll get around to using it sometime soon.

And next time I won’t let myself be bullied and buy something I actually really like!

[Lighting]

It was storming the night Elda finally got around to burning the strange oil she’d purchased. Somehow, though, this felt oddly suitable; the dark, dangerous clouds of the storm matched her mood.

She’d had a tough day; relaxation and a way to vent her anger and frustration were exactly what she needed. I bubble bath, with the special moody oil . . . that would be just right.

She lit the tiny, unscented tea light for the burner while her tub was filling with steaming water and thick luscious bubbles. As the oil began to heat and burn off, she noticed something at once. Instead of rising into the air and drifting around the small bathroom, the smoke from the oil cup drifted downward toward the bad of the burner and collected there in a small cloud.

More particular still, the smoke was black and red, dark looking and strange.

Elda wondered what was so special about this strange oil. . .

Awakening Prompt (Required To Reach Child stage)

Having run into your last ounce of oil, you mournfully place it into it's burner and light it, letting the aroma spread throughout your home happily.

------
[For Those Who Want To RP Witnessing The Event]

You leave for a moment, deciding you felt peckish after smelling something so wonderful, and grabbed a snack from your kitchen. When you return you witness something absolutely amazing. The end result of the incident being a child on the floor of the room. Describe the sight, and the reactions of both you and the child at the end of it all.
------
[For Those Who Want To RP Finding The Child Only]

Having remembered something you needed to do, you ran out of your home quickly, forgetting all about the burning oils inside. You return content, having completed your task only to find a small child wandering the halls of your home, leaving oily foot steps behind, leading to a cracked burner, and split candle wax. Describe your reaction, and how you deal with the oil tracking child.

[Manifestation]

After allowing the oil to burn for a while as the tub filled, Elda took the burner and poured the rest of the bottle into the cup. There, the oil was getting used so she didn’t have to waste any and it would be more than enough to last through her long bath.

But she needed something else to complete the mood. . . A glass of wine! That would be perfect. She set the burner carefully back on the bathroom counter and trooped to her kitchen.

Returning to the bathroom about 5 minuets latter, Elda’s first thought was that her bathtub was getting dangerously close to full. Her second thought was that something must be on fire!

The entire room was filled with the thick red and black smoke from the burner, but a quick check confirmed that there was no flame, save the tiny tea light. The dark smoke began to swirl violently in fast circles, much like mini-whirlwinds, causing her to drop her wineglass, which shattered on the tile floor.

Just as Elda was becoming truly afraid, the smoke slowed and began to fade. A loud splash, followed by a liberal soaking with hot, sudsy, water told Elda that something large had just landed in her bath.

Stepping carefully in order to avoid the broken glass, Elda crept to the edge of the tub to see what had happened. To her immense surprise a tiny girl sat dripping in the tub of water and bubbles. She stared at her and the girl’s angry burgundy eyes stared back. Elda opened her mouth to speak, but the girl got there first.

What’s the matter with your hair?” She snapped. Elda put a hand to her head and found that indeed, the combination of humidity and wetness had turned her hair into a poofy mess.

This was going to be a much longer night than she’d anticipated.

What happens when people die?

Elda won’t tell me about death. She says it’s not a topic for young children, especially young girls, but I’m curious. I want to know what death is. . .

I know that when you die you go away, but where do you go? What happens to you? What do you do? Why don’t you ever come back?

Why do people die? Why do they go away?

I have a lot of questions, and I wish Elda would answer them. I think it’s supposed to be some sort of secret that only adults are supposed to know about. But I want to know.

Why does death have to be a mystery?

Dear Diary,

Being a mother is a trial; I understand now how a teenager faced with an unexpected pregnancy feels. Only my unexpected child showed up sour-faced and half grown in my bathtub.

Her name is Malice, like Alice with an “M”, and she’s named after the oil she came from. She has no memory of being oil, or anything else before dropping into my bubble bath, but she speaks well and has the maturity of a 9-year-old. A bitter 9-year old.

Anyway, like all mothers and daughters must do, I suppose, we fight. A lot.

She pointedly refuses to wear any normal clothes, and insists on wearing vintage outfits, usually dresses, with petticoats, platform heels, and the works. The style is called Goth Lolita and is apparently a fashion trend in Japan. Her wardrobe is mostly black and red with a dose of white, purple, grey, and dark blue.

Pink is a no-no. I learn this lesion quickly when she threw a temper tantrum so bad I was afraid someone was going to call child services over a pink dress. Not pretty. It’s easier to humor her. Eighteen-odd years of helping with costuming has taught me a lot about sewing, so I’m able to afford to keep her in her dresses, but she likes the imports better than anything I make her.

Here’s hoping she’ll grow out of this phase and start dressing like a normal person.

It was raining on the way home from school today. Generally, I like rain. It’s fresh and clean and makes other people miserable. What’s not to love? But today I was pissed. Some idiot at school shoved me down and got mud on my new dress, so I made him eat mud.

The teacher was not pleased.

I had to take another note home to Elda about my unladylike behavior, and she wasn’t pleased either.

But on the way home I found a kitten. He’s beautiful, a tiny black dear, rain soaked and hungry. I couldn’t leave him there, he’d die. So I scooped him up and put him in the pocket of my already dirty dress. He snuggled up and went to sleep.

It turns out that Elda is allergic to cats. Oh well, he has a name and isn’t going anywhere. His name is Ashes, because of his ashy black fur.

I’ll take good care of him.

Dear Diary,

You know, my life is quickly starting to resemble something out of a horror movie. There’s one I watched in my high school psych class, it was called The Bad Seed. About a little girl who was a soulless serial killer.

Her name was Rota.

I think it should have been Malice.

My little girl scares me. Her lack of compassion for other people is astounding. She hasn’t hurt anyone severely yet, but I fear it may only be a matter of time. I don’t want to think that Malice may grow up to be a mass murder, but I often fear that may be the case.

Dear God, what have I unleashed on this world?

Maturity Prompt (Required To Teach Teen Stage)

Learning how to be responsible is an important part of growing up. In order for your scent to mature into a teen, they need to prove that they are capable of taking responsibility for themselves and/or others.

That said, your scent comes home one day with an amazing story that shows how responsible they are. They have rescued a cat, saved up enough money to buy themselves something nice, or saved the world from an evil wizard that tried to divide by zero.

Whether it was ultimately to serve themselves or others, your scent's tale will show traits of maturity that will let them blossom into angry, hormone-driven monsters that act nothing like the sweet children that you fondly remember having.

Be as creative as you'd like with their story, and remember:

RESPONSIBLITY, DO YOU HAS IT?!
