'And I envy you,' Sohalia said, though her tone was in no way bitter. Why gripe about what you dont have? She was in no way unhappy about her own appearance. It was just admiration.
'Really?' she tilted her head at that strange admission, her crimped locks falling away from her neck.
'That is an..oddity.'

'Mmm..' she nodded.
'Landscapes, dramatic scenery for the most part. Waterfalls. Snow-capped mountains. Though there I didnt linger for long. I do not like the cold all that much.'
She smiled at Alston.
'I didnt meet anyone interesting until I came to these parts.'

Alston smiled softly; he was beginning to like her. Even though she didn't have wings, she didn't seem upset about it or anything. He liked that in another soquili because it just showed character. "Yea, my mother was... always a bit strange." Alston chuckled fondly, his mother was definitely weird but he liked that about her.

"Oh? A waterfall? I've never seen one of those. Are they pretty? Do they have rainbows all around them?" Alston seemed genuinely interested about whether there were rainbows or not. He was so curious about the world around him... "Really? I wouldn't know though... I've lived here my entire life so I've never really wandered very far from this region."

Sohalia chuckled, giving her crimped tail a lazy flick, and shifting her back legs as they felt a little as though they were going to sleep.
'Strange is good. I don't know what 'normal' is really, who can say after all? It's probably boring if you don't have some quirk or other.'

She smiled, giving a nod at his question.
'Majestic, awe inspiring would be a good description. All that water cascading down, the spray catching in the sun. And yes,' she grinned.
'Often there are rainbows.'
She looked at him.
'But you have so much freedom! You should travel, take in the sights whilst you have your youth and health.'

"So true. She is probably one of the most interesting people I know." Alston nodded slightly and smiled once more. "Oh? Wow, I wonder if I'll stumble on one someday." The stallion paused slightly and then continued, "I know! I've been telling myself that since the day I emerged from my basket but... it's just never happened. I guess it's sort of because I feel sort of attached to my family. It would just be weird going a day without seeing any of them." Alston shrugged once more contemplating on this thought; he really did want to travel because that would just be so fun. But he knew that soon he would outgrow his family and want to wander off.

'But they'd still be there on your return,' Sohalia encouraged the stallion. She firmly believed that taking at least some time away from ones family herd and seeing new places were part of the foundations of a well-rounded life.

'You should spread your wings, so to speak.' she chuckled a little.
'It's always best to do so before you form lasting attachments; mate and children for instance.'
Sohalia felt that had to be some explanation as to why she'd never met her own father. And her mother had been as hazy on the details as she could be possibly be. She'd definately gotten her reticence from her mother. She realised that she'd fallen silent and was mostly likely frowning a little. She shook her mane, and looked at Alston.
'Well, that's just what I think,' she gave the stallion a smile.

Pausing, Alston thought about what she said. "That's true... But what if I miss something important? I would hate to not be there with my family whether it's bad or good." He obviously was a very family oriented soquili and was worried about losing touch with those close to him. Alston didn't have very many friends outside of his teepee and family thus explained why he clung so close to his family.

"I've always thought about leaving... just for awhile though. But I've never really gone through with it." He paused slightly but then continued, "I've never really thought of that actually. Settling down, I mean. I never thought that would really happen to me." He had divulged this to the dismay of his mother. He couldn't help what he felt. He just felt like... he was on a different wavelength then other soquili were so he was guessing that he would never really fall in love.

'More so than your own life?' Sohalia tilted her head.
'Family is important, don't get me wrong but you might find yourself one day questioning why you didn't 'spread your wings' when you had the chance.'
She supposed that because her own family unit hadn't been..well it hadn't really been a unit.

'You're not with your family now though are you?' she said archly and grinned at him again.
'Why? What do you think is so wrong with you that you'll never find a lifes companion?'
Sohalia had always supposed that eventually, one day, there would be someone who she could be her full self with. Someone who she would trust enough to tell everything of her life. So she was confused as to why this stallion, who came across as congenial, would think he would always be a bachelor.
'I'm only assuming here, from what I've seen of you so far, but you don't come across as a 'love 'em and leave them' lothario. Family is important to you. So why?'

Alston really hadn't thought of any of this before. It made him feel almost regretful that he hadn't already left. "I don't know..." His voice trailed off at the end of his sentence. He already had mixed feelings about this and now he was feeling even more confused.

Raising a brow at her, Alston chuckled slightly. At least his good humor hadn't left him. "Well, at least they're in the slight vicinity." He paused and thought about her question. "I've just never been the type to settle down. Who would like me in any other way then just friends?" The stallion shrugged slightly. He had definitely thought about this before. "I just don't see myself as anything special and I don't think anybody would really pick me to spend the rest of their life with." He spoke sincerely knowing that what he said was something that he was sure of.

He couldn't help but stop and laugh. "Man, before I started talking to you, I thought I had everything figured out. Boy, I'm so wrong." Alston couldn't help but chuckle once more.

'Confusion is nothing to be ashamed of, anyone who claims to know everything is only kidding themselves.' she said in a shrewd manner as she regarded the stallion.

'And what if I said I thought you were special?' Sohalia asked, her head cantd on side again, strands of her mane falling across her face.
'You are a silly stallion if you think not one being in all the wide world could hold affection for you.' she let out a little huff.
'I think you are sweet and amiable, and if you haven't already noticed, I tend to speak my mind.'
She moved closer to Alston and tapped the tip of one of her front hooves against one of his.
'You have lots of good qualities, and if you don't start seeing that well..I shall poke you in the rump with my horn.' she said with a wink.

He definitely still had a lot to learn; he was still so young. Sohalia was making him realize that he still had to explore the world and experience so many things. Definitely a strange realization. Alston looked at her skeptically. It was hard to believe considering that those close to him thought he was definitely an odd soul. It was nice though, hearing this from a person outside of his family and inner circle.

"It would be a strange thing to say then." The stallion chuckled once more trying to keep the atmosphere light-hearted and not tense. "You speak too kindly of me. I don't deserve even half of the compliments you're giving me." He noticed that she tapped one of his hooves but he was rooted to the spot. With a grin on his face, Alston said, "Ooh, I'm scared. I'll make sure and try to stay positive in absolute fear of your horn." Alston winked at her playfully and smiled at her. He wanted to return her compliments but he feared that he would be too cheesy or his compliments would sound insincere because of the timing.

Sohalia let out a long sigh as she looked at the stallion.
'Well, I hope that when somebody does fall for you, and I think they will.' she said firmly.
'I hope very much that you'll be open enough to to realise what's happening. Being alone is..well I don't think it's good for anyone for a long time. Solitude is all very well, but you can only do that for so long.' she'd been alone since leaving her birthplace so she knew of what she spoke.

'And you do.' she said simply, moving away from the stallion a way, as he seemed a little rigid with her being so close. She gave her head a little flick, and smiled at his comment.
'Oh you should be.'
Sohalia let her gaze flicker skywards, noticing the faint colour change; had they really been talking for so long?
'The day draws to an end..and I should find shelter for the night.'
