God,I wish we were having a winterguard, I don't know what I'm going to do without somehting to twirl to everyday. We don't even have the money for a used mat. I'm really hoping for captain come time for tryouts though, not to toot my own horn but I know I'm pretty friggin good.

We started winterguard the last week of November. We learned drill to the show so far, but now we have to fit the work with the drill. Our eval show is in mid January. Our theme for our music is something along the lines of "Flash" like speed or light or w/e. I'm really excited for this season!

This is actually the first year we have had a Winter Percussion unit.
But i think were gonna do really awesome though.

We have a really neat show, and we learned it all during our first mini-camp. We only have 1 more practice before competition.

Both Indoor shows are going to be awesome for us this year.

Paradigm Percussion is doing music from Symphony X

Prism Winterguard is doing music from the movie 300.

I'm in the guard, and I truly, honestly can't wait. whee

Our school has a winterguard and indoor drumline. They're separate, but we're going to competitions together (mostly because I do both... sweatdrop )

For drumline, we have most of our songs. I do mallets, and this is my first year playing them. I joined the class after football season (we had a colorguard class). We have some good songs I guess, we only had 1 rehearsal.

As for winterguard... we didn't even have tryouts. Everyone there was already on colorguard. We did end up recruiting a dance team member, and a guard member quit so we have 8. Our show is a Chicago medley. It is ok, but it's pieced together horribly. Our coach quit, and now we have one that was on drill team and can't twirl a rifle and can barely spin a flag. We're coming up with everything ourselves. And the whole group is surrounded by drama.

Winterguard and indoor drumline will be loads of fun this year... rolleyes

My winter drumline's theme this year is Ninja Penguins.

Ironically, these are my two favourite things xD

This is our first year back at Indoor Drumline. In 2003 we placed 3rd at WGI.
I think thats pretty effin awesome. But our new BD (1 of 3) is a percussion god. even people at Sam Ash have heard of him. So were supposed to do pretty well. Im excited. Unfortunatly our biggest competition went Independent this year and they are supposedly gettting some really good people.

Were doing Turbine by John Mackey. He's supposed to come by and see us perform. If he does that would be awesome. Our theme is Aviophobia (the fear of Flying) so its gonna be really cool.

Im playing Vibe 2. 4 mallets is hard so if anyone has any tips please pmail me i would love to hear some. Unfortuantly its kinda expensice 450 sad But well live it would be more but were not going to WGI because of the Spring Musical, half the drumline and pit is trying out. And most will make it, and WGI is when the performances start for the play.

If anyone is in Florida doing this look up UPS, Univeristy Percussion Syndicate. (spelling...!)

Our guard show's theme is gonna be.. animal crackers coming to life in an african savannah/paradise. It sounds goofy, but the way our coach described it, it's gonna be aaaawesooome. o/ and I'm drawing the animal crackers for the show~ And the song is gonna be a mixture of Wildlife by the Yellowjackets and First Circle by Ruben Blades.

Last year, it was Cheerleaders vs Guard, though. xDD It was pretty epic. Britanny, our flyer, had hundreds of near death experiences being hurled up into the air.

I (Unfortunately) made cymbals as a sophomore for the second year in a row. I'm going to kill everyone in my section by sharpening the edges of my cymbals and decapitating them in the middle of the state show, if possible. The opening set is perfect, or the one at the end of the first piece. I bet our teacher wondered why I asked for a straight line.

Anyways, I tried out for mallets mostly, but made the mistake of marching cymbals during the audition. I could have made tenors, but the guy who usually plays them is awfully protective and made it clear my life would never be easy if I took away his tenors... lol. He ended up on snare, though.

My school just started a winter guard. We have 20 girls (3 times that in fall guard) and no money (yippee). We have no idea what to expect... it'll be interesting to say the least. Any advice?
