Harper grinned, "If you want to, I'm not gonna stop you.. Why does it bother you so much that shes mad at you, though? When you could be making something for me!" He crossed his arms and fixed a funny look on her, giving a sigh as he looked around. "So. Nobody is home?" He said, smiling a little impishly.

"Nope, Mama went to help one of the parishioners have her baby," she said cheerfully, tugging a box from the closet shelf. Inside were hundreds of scraps of colorful fabrics, ranging in size from yard rolls to inch by inch squares. "I could make something for you too," she offered, tugging a few pairs of cut up jeans and slacks from he bottom of the box, "Do you know your measurements?"

"Uh." Harper looked down at himself, shaking his head a moment there. "I dunno, what's the average measurements for 'super cool'?" He walked around her room again and then motioned with his head, "Come on! Do you get to go in your mom's room ever?!"

Manuela flushed red, tossing the measuring tape down in the box. "I'm not allowed in Mama Estelle's room," she told him sternly, "I promised her I'd stay out." She chose not to comment on the measurements quite yet, since there was obviously a much more troublesome idea at hand.

Harper quickly interrupted her half way though with, "Let's go now then!" Only to hear her promise a moment later. He crossed his arms and tilted his head in, "Well, I never promised her anythin.'" He said, while opening her door, intent on finding said room and exploring it fully.

"But Harper," Manuela argued as she followed along behind him, "Mama says I shouldn't mess with her things. She says I could get hurt. I think we should stay out." Noting the intent in his voice she added, "I could make some cookies."

Harper stopped, a thoughtful look coming over his face. After a moments consideration he cringed and shrugged one shoulder, "Naaah, this is more interesting... you can make cookies too, though! Which room is it?!"

Manuela sighed, deciding that if he demanded to see it than she might as well make it end quickly. "It's the one beside the kitchen," she said anxiously, "With the beads on the door." They were Mama Estelle's safety charms, but she wasn't sure Harper would understand that.

Harper grinned, "Don't gotta be all grumpy like that Manny, I ain't draggin' you with me." He said, running to the door in question. Taking a second to poke at the beads, he hastily went to open the door and go inside.

Manuela blushed red but kept close to him, closing the door behind them as soon as they were in. The dark room was lit in one corner by a triad of tapered candles, and the scent of sandalwood hung in the air. She reached clumsily for the lightswitch, revealing a large black quilted bed dominating the room. Along the sides were several old dressers, their surfaces almost entirely covered in beads, candles, and other things most people would deem clutter. Beside the candles in the corner was a simple black bowl, set in the center. "We shouldn't stay here long," she warned, "I don't know when she might be home." Though in truth she knew it wasn't likely her mother would be home that night at all.

Harper batted at Manny, "RELAX already, would you? So what if she catches us. What she gonna do, put some voodoo curse on me and turn me into a frog?" He asked impishly, carefully taking a few steps into the room before running over to the bed and moving to jump on it.
"Manny, would you still be my friend if I was a frog?" He teased.

Manuela sighed, drooping her shoulders. "Yes Harper, I would still be your friend if you were a frog," she assured him, "She can't do that though you know." She crossed her arms over her chest, still anxious even though he was sort of entertaining.

"Would you be my best friend if I was a frog?" He continued, bouncing merrily on poor Estelle's bed.
"How do you know, Manny? Look at her room! Solo plays a nerd-game that has a witch room like this. The witch has a buncha pet toads and they were all her old boyfriends. HEY does your mom have any mysteriously missing boyfriends?!!"

Manuela's face flushed as she climbed onto the bed beside him, jumping a few times cautiously. "Mama Estelle doesn't date," she told him, "She says her love is the congregation." As she gained a bit of vigor with her jumping she had a thought. "I would be your best friend if you weren't really slimy. And besides, she's not a witch," she said sternly, "She just still does some stuff from Cuba."

"Or you just dunno if she dates. Shes prolly got a few of her boyfriends in aquariums somewhere around here. Is congregation code for sisterhood?"
He definitely played too many videogames. He blinked a few times at her jumping and then jumped off the bed, looking around for something to get in to. "So, you're saying if I was slimy you'd hate me. Psh, girls."
