Abiona stared in quiet awe at the large creature. "yeah they live in heards, a matriarch watches over them all, she is usually the oldest and wisest of them she protects them from all wrong dooings." The little cub blinks. Where had that come from? Looking awquardly at his paws, he shuffled them in the shifting soils. "Uh, thats what gramma told me any ways." he cleared his throat turning his attention back to the huge old elephant.

"He seems kinda sad, don't you think? Do you, do you think we should follow him? Maybe he'd like some company?" The youngest cubs fear had melted away for some reason, his heart tugged him towards this great grey creature, he wanted to know eher it was going, he had to know.

Shwari was forced to look away from the elephant when Abiona started talking. A slight frown creased his brow, the cub extremely skeptical. Where had Abiona learned all that? He certainly didn't remember that in the discussion about elephants. The cub pushed the thoughts away for later, asking instead, "What's a matriarch? Is she just a woman who does all those other things?" Shwari raised his eyebrows at Abiona when he said that his grandmother had told him, but decided to let him be. Abiona could have as many secrets as he wanted, so long as he didn't get himself (or the twins) into trouble.

At Abiona's question, Shwari turned his attention back to the elephant. Sad? He wasn't sure. He didn't know what a sad elephant looked like. "We could follow him, but I'm not sure about keeping him company. What if he decides to step on you? You'll be flattened!" He definitely wasn't going to get too close to that elephant. That was not a risk he'd like to take.

Abiona wacthed the elephant with admireing eyes for a moment longer, though he heard his brothers voice he was lost in the sight of the beast before them. It was huge, it's skin full of creveces and bumps, scars and different colours. It was an amazing sight.

"A Matriarch is a female whom rules the herd and looks after them,s he's the head honcho, so to speak." He was lost in his own thoughts now, he wanted to say hi to the elepant, to ask it about it's tusks, to ask it why it looked so sad, but he knew his brother was right, what if it was dangerous, it would crush them in an instant.

Giving a slow nod the young vub looked to his brother. "Lets follow it then. i want to see where it's going. It looks so sad and lonely."

"Matriarch... right, got it." Shwari mumbled, more to himself than his brother. It was such a strange word, but he supposed it was easier than saying female head honcho. He wondered absently if their mother counted as a matriarch. Naw, she couldn't even tell him and Haki apart. Surely a matriarch would be able to do something as easy as that. Abiona had made them sound like a matriarch was some amazing female who could lead something like a group of elephant. Secretly, Shwari doubted such a female existed. He'd never met one.

The cub simply shrugged his assent at Abiona, letting the cub go first. He wasn't sure he wanted to follow an elephant, but perhaps it was going somewhere interesting. Maybe Abiona would know where it was going, or at least had some sort of idea. "D'you have any idea where he's going?"

Abiona smiled and bounced after the elephant his tail high in the air. He felt an excitement run from his paws and down his spine. Shwari's question interrupted his bounding jumps and slowed his excitement to a rather sombre walk. He padded as the elephant did for a long silent moment, only the breeze and the elephants movements in the distance creating any sound.

"Some where she has to go." He frowned, he didn't understand the answer so he shook his head and continued to follow. "I don't know but I think she is nearly there."

While Abiona bounded after the elephant, Shwari simply followed at a controlled walk. He didn't have to act like Haki today, which meant he could be himself. Whatever that meant. Still, the Shwari he liked to portray would walk calmly and most certainly wouldn't run after an elephant. He was much more dignified than that. Right, dignified.

He moved to walk next to his brother only when Abiona slowed down, keeping an ear on the elephant so he could look at his brother. "Who has to go somewhere?" Shwari wasn't even going to ask how Abiona knew. It wasn't worth the answer. "She's obviously big enough to make decisions for herself, so she shouldn't have to do anything."

Abiona looked at his brother strangely, for the first time he wondered about his older brother. "If the right thing pulls, anything can be made to go." He knew it was sort of cryptic, but it was what he needed to say. He understood the elephant was going some where, some where important, that she didn't have a choice in the matter.

They followed for quite some time, the big female elephant taking her time on her journey apparantly not noticing the two tiny lion cubs following her. The sun had risen high by the time she paused and looked around. Tiny black, intelligent eyes looked straight at the two lion cubs. Thiose eyes seemed so sad, yet they had a kind shimmer to them. "You must come no further now cubs." Her voice was low, but kindly. "Thankyou for coming with me all this way, but this last stretch I have to go alone.

Abiona stopped dead in his tracks and listened to the elephant, his eyes wide, she seemed so beautiful and lonely to him despite her size. He wanted to ask her why they had to stay, but he knew the answer would come soon enough so he sat and looked at his brother. "I knew she wouldn't hurt us." He whispers a smile playing on his dark maw. They had made the old elephant happy, for event he breifest of times. "Goodbye then."He whispered his eyes resting on the receeding shape of the elephant as she stompped away towards a rouch incline in the earth.

Shwari simply looked at his brother, really not understanding what he was getting at. Sure Abiona said some really weird stuff, but this was by far the weirdest. There probably was some kind of truth in it, knowing his brother, but the cub just didn't understand. Maybe one day he would, but for now he said nothing. What could he say?

The trip was rather relaxing, seeing as nothing would dare come after an elephant even if she was being followed by two lion cubs. Abiona hadn't sad anything since his earlier cryptic statement, and so Shwari felt like he shouldn't be saying anything either. He was silent, until the elephant stopped. The cub's heart nearly stopped when the elephant turned to speak to them, unnerved by how she looked right at them. So she had known they were following her. He shouldn't have been so surprised. The elephant did have huge ears after all. Shwari could only stare at her, blue eyes following her as she lumbered off. It was just... wow.

"And you were right," Shwari murmured, still in awe. "If... if awesome stuff like this happens on all your little adventures, d'you think you could take me with you again?"

Abiona chuckled lightly and grinned at his brother. "You'll come on other adventures with me." He smiled and flickered his tiny tail, the phrase was voiced so possitively, perhaps he knew his older brother would follow him on further adventures in the future.

It was then that a rustle sounded behind them and from the long grass came a rather flustered looking lioness. "Where the Heck have you two been!" Kinamasi frowned at the two cubs going up to each in turn and turning them round roughly checking they wern't hurt. "Don't wander off! Do you know how close to the elephant graveyard you are? Theres thousands of wretched hyenas in there that wouldn't even take a moment to eat you, now the pair of you march.!" Their mother pointed with her lame paw back in the direction they had come.

Abiona gave a sigh, why hadn't he seen this in his dream? Blinking he listened to their mother as she 'manhandled' them, though his eyes went wide whens he said elephant graveyard. He suddenly understood his own words. Tears rolled down his cheeks quietly as he turned to pad back towards their den on the edge of the pridelands. The old elephant had gone to die, she had no choice. It was a strange lesson to learn, and one he would not soon forget.

Shwari gave his brother a lop-sided grin, pleased to hear that he would be coming on more. Excellent. Perhaps he could convince Haki to come along, so long as his more energetic brother didn't ruin the moment. Perhaps Haki would want to be off with his new friend though. Hmmm... well, Shwari would take what he could get. Any adventure would do.

The cub jumped when the bushes rustled, fur bristling until he realized it was his mother. Jeeze, sneaking up on them like that! "I'm fiiiiine mom, we weren't doin' anythin' bad!" Shwari complained as he was roughed up, making a face. Fine way to end their little adventure. He paused when she said that it was an elephant graveyard, turning to look in the direction the elephant had gone. So it had gone in with the bones to die. No wonder she didn't want them coming with her.

Shwari flattened his ears and sulked after his brother, giving Abiona a small comforting nudge as he came up beside him. No words were needed. The experience had spoken for itself. Absently, Shwari wondered if one day he would be as accepting of his death as that elephant was. Who knew. In any case, it was far enough in the future that he wouldn't concern himself with it. Life would go on.

Abiona walked on in silence as their mother marched them back towards the den. His mind was full of questions he could not answer. Even that little voice which wispered words in his ear seemed to be absent. Perhaps he was supposed to take this situation as a cub.

He let a sigh roll over his lips and he shook his head. he found it strange to feel so attached to somehting he had never acctually met, but he had felt the old elephants sorrow and it hurt to think that she would die this day and she would never walk the savannah again in all her magnificence.

The den closed in upon them and he curled up beside his brothers and sisters blocking out the sounds of mewls, grows and whispers around him of where they had been. He had much to think about, the world outside of his mind was much less important than the questions which rolled around in his youthful mind.
