Trying for adorable Newbie Box!

Username: Ivory_Feld
Ulaya Name: December (Nickname "Ember")
Why did you choose that name?: Cause the parents totally remind me of Winter colors, so yeaaah---randomly decided to go with the 1st main month of Winter cause its pretty! heart (Name subject to change to "Shards" if the box is male! xd )
Gender: Female
Prompt Number: 1
Response:

A small female ulaya sat quitely benieth a towering oak. Her eyes were fixed warily on her out-going siblings who were frollicing and paying about in the open. She prefered to hide away in the shade, her darker coat helping her not stand out. Ever watchful, December pondered what to do in silence to amuse herself; since she of coarse had no intention on having any attention on her.

Sighing lightly she began to clean one of her dainty paws, licking away with her eyes closed. In the darkness her sense of hearing hightened. She could hear every patter of her sibling's playful paws. They appeared to be getting louder and louder. Decemeber opened her eyes quickly, wanting to softly ask for them to be a little more quiet.

What she saw was no her siblings near her...

What she'd heard was not their paws, but the paws of a stranger...

She blinked thrice, swallowing her breath in her throat. The unfamiliar ulaya was RIGHT infront of her, smiling wordlessly. Would he say hello? No! She didn't want him to say anything! She wanted him to lose interest and head away...right away! December felt the heat of blood rushing to her cheeks, she knew she was blushing. She always got so flustered around others and it made her even more imbarassed.

"Hello!" said the strange male chipperly. Dear Heavens he said it! paniced Ber. She didnt know what she should do. Mom always told her it was polite to converse, for through coversation, knowledge could be expressed. Knowledge always seemed to be a thing with her. You could be quitely intellegent, you know.

But now wasn't the time for debate, she had to do something and she had to do something quick, for he would surely think ill of her if she did nothing at all. Oh how December wanted to just disappear. "Hi..." she managed to squeek out in a barely audiable voice.

The stanger still stat beaming. "Cat got your tongue?" he asked playfulling. Another long bout of silence passed before December managed to force out another reply. "No" she replied. "Not very talkative huh? What's with the one word replies?" the male asked, confused and wondering if he should be offended. Decemeber didn't really know at all what to reply to that one.

Her eyes widened and she decided it best to just make her leave, since she was shivering from shyness on spot. Her anti-social nature got the best of her and December turned tail and went bolting away to hide wherever her mother and father were. The poor friendly male sat down on his hind quarters and tilted his head to the side. What a peculiar female...

Ulaya Name
Cumuli
Why did you choose that name?
Her colors give me a cloudy feeling, and She's named partially after a type of cloud, the Cumulus cloud.
Mood
Daydreaming - Tending to be shy, and sometimes usually quiet, often because she's always distracted, being in her own thoughts. Sometimes feeling embarrased about herself for being a constant daydreamer, she's afraid it's one of her bad traits. She likes to try and make friends, but her shyness, and her lack of social speech tends to give herself less notice around others.
Gender
Female
Prompt Number

Response
On this bright day, in a grassy clearing, Laughter could be heard from Young Ulaya kits, who were romping around the field, fooling around with each other while their parents had gone to do more important matters such as Hunting for the family. They were playing games such as tag, leap frog, and many more that they enjoyed greatly. However, one Ulaya didn't join with the fun in games, being too busy, observing and daydreaming while hidden under the shade of a tree, away from the rays of the sun..
Cumuli tilted her head from the left, then to the right, staring out into the crowd of her 4 other siblings. 'Wow, they sure seem to be having alot of fun..' She thought to herself, wishing she could join in the fun, but felt too shy to try and join along. She wasn't really one to socially interact with in games and such. She released a sigh and decided to shift her gaze elsewhere, looking up into the clouds, staring at it's puffy whiteness. "Those clouds.." She mumbled to herself, for once not speaking through thoughts, "They looks so nice.. so poofy.." She trailed off, once more stuck back into her daydreams and thoughts.. "Oh!" She exclaimed to herself, feeling her cheeks blush a tinting pink against her fur, embarrased. She day-dreamed again. She sometimes wish she wasn't such a thinker in her mind, and always so dreamy..
"Is something wrong?"
"Huh! wha?? Who said that?!" She asked in shock and surprise, looking her left, her right, up, and even down; was someone watching her? No.. Maybe it was just her thoughts playing a greater level of wierd on her. Maybe her thoughts were so strong she heard them clearly through her own ears even. But she was wrong.
"I said it." The voice replied back, not sounding blank, or irritated, but it seemed to have a nice gently, friendly tone to it. Like in a moment she could tell it wasn't here to hard her. Was the being just roaming around and came across her? The voice had a hinting feeling that the gender of the creature was at least Male, and the voice's direction was coming from behind, now that she was able to focus on the direction of the sound.
"I, who?" She asked, perked with curiosity to not daydream at the moment. She was looking in the direction where she was sure where the person was, which was in the shadows of a bush. The bushes rustled. Was she correct?
"Haha, my name's Milo. Milo Greigh" The Ulaya said kindly, stepping out of the bushes, the shadows being less concentrated on his figure, now making it easier to see him, and despite his appearance,
Cumuli didn't flinch, nor widen her eyes in horror.
Her eyes only widened in fascination and awe, never in her day-dreaming thoughts had she ever imagining meeting someone like Milo, who seemed to look like a stitched up scarecrow, parts of his body lined out and connected in stitches, Straw sticking out of his pieces of clothing which seemed to be a shabby shirt and old jeans. She wondered if she was anyone else like him.
Milo, not being able to interpret her expression, only did an wary smile, looking down at the ground, "I'm sorry if my appearance shocks you. It's scared most people I've met.."
Cumuli instantly shook her head though in protest, replying, "Oh! Not at all.. well, shocked, yes, but in awe!" She smiled at him, nodding. "Really? Heh, well, thank you" His smile widened, happy that for once someone didn't flinch from him. He wouldn't ask why she was like that though.
"So, was there something wrong?" He asked curiously, showing he didn't want the question to go unoticed. Cumuli seemed to have easily forgotted it and tilted her head cutely, "Huh? what sort of trouble?" She asked, confused partially. Milo blinked, abit astonished before explaining the situation. "Well, I came across you only a few minutes ago, and noticed you were by yourself, and suddenly looked distant, as if in thought while staring up at the clouds. Then all of a sudden you went 'oh!', as if startled by something.. Did something trouble you?" He said, his tone ending in a sheepish feeling, as if abit embarrased himself for prying.
"Oh, that!" She all of a sudden sounded abit rushed and pressured, feeling her cheeks turn warm, abit embarrased knowing that someone saw her do that, "Well, I.. I was looking up at the clouds, thinking about how nice a-and poofy they were and ended up daydreaming in thought about them", She confessed, as if she told her dark secret, "Sometimes I'll daydream when I don't even realize it, and I tend to feel abit.. embarrased by it." She felt herself grow warm, feeling abit shy on confessing it, even if it was to someone she knew for under a minute like Milo.
She waited for Milo to laugh at her, which he did so; It only made herself feel more embarrased and regretting on admitting her reasons, "I knew you'd think it was funny" She said rather glumly, ears flattened. Milo for a moment slowed his chuckling to a silence, smiling apologetically at her, "Oh, I'm sorry. that's not why I'm laughing," He explained, rubbing his nose lightly with his paw, possibly feeling an itch there, and continued, "I don't find it funny, more like.. cute. Daydreaming doesn't sound all that bad." He grinned kindly at her, feeling more comfortable around her, sure that he wasn't frightening to her, He motioned closer to Cumuli, sitting not far from her right. Cumili blinked up at him curiously, "R-really?" She asked, ears perking up, as if to show how uplifting her mood was.
He nodded amiably, then looked at her, a brow raised up to have his face express his curiosity, "Now, what was it you were daydreaming about?" He then said curiously. Cumuli only then shifted her gaze slightly from Milo, up into the sky. Was she thinking about answering it or not? Or was she already giving off her answer.. "The clouds.." She said dreamily, as if she was really close to being deep in her daydreams. "They look so lovely and white, soft, flowing against the breeze.." She continued as Milo himself looked up, staring into the clouds that Cumuli's eyes herself were staring at as well. "I wonder what it must be like to be a cloud.. Orheh, even to be able to go up into the sky and touch those clouds, to see if they are as puffy as we see them down here", Her voice faded out from her mouth, while the rest of what she was thinking could only be heard in her mind..
".. Oh! I did it again!" She scolded herself, blinking back away from the sky and down to the ground, feeling color rush to her cheeks, "I'm sorry.." She apologized, and looked over to Milo, who cut off from staring into the clouds as well and was getting himself to lay down on his stomach. "Why apologize?" He asked softly, now laying on his side, "Those are some nice thoughts to consider.." He smiled, grunting abit as he twisted around and was now laying on his back, looking up into the sky, silent, possibly from being occupied in his own daydreams as well.
Cumuli couldn't resist but giggle, a bright smile widen across her face, feeling more understood for once by someone. And to someone who she didn't even know for over an hour! But then again, who said you couldn't make friends under that time?
"Thank you" She gratefully replied, and flopped on her back next to Milo, staring up into the clouds. "Heh, don't you think that cloud looks like some sort of fish?" Cumuli asked at Milo, wondering if he could see it too. In return to her question, he chuckled, "Haha, yeah, I see that.. Oh! and there's one that looks like a flower" He said enthusiatically, Pointing up to it with a paw. "Oh! Really? where, I wanna see...!" Cumuli exclaimed, seeming to be unable to vision the cloud that beared resemblance to a flower. "Haha! right there" He said once more, trying to have his paw direct to it more accurately. "Ohh, I see it now, that's so cool!" She complimented, sounding more cheerful in her talk. Milo's head turned for a moment from the clouds and onto his side, facing the little Shy, yet, open Ulaya, "Haha.. by the way, I don't know if I ever got your name.." He noted to her, hoping that then she would introduce her identity. The kit blinked up into the sky for a moment before shyly replying to him, "It's Cumuli."
"Cumuli, hm? Sounds lovely.."
Thus did the friendly chatter and dreamings of a Cloud and a Scarecrow continue on, their Friendship doing deeper, a strong bond being formed..

Noob Entry

Username: Lupine_Warrior
Ulaya Name: Lumi (Luu-mi)
Why did you choose that name?: It's Finnish for Snow or Snow Fall I thought it seemed to suit her colours and her fathers name, I grew up in Finland so I learnt the language quite fluently.
Gender: Female
Prompt Number: 2
Response:

Your alone and the sky is getting dark and full of heavy snow clouds but being more like your father your pelt is thicker then a normal Ulaya's would be. The air gets colder and colder as you wait for the approaching storm and your starting to get more chilly then you thought you might. Do you stay and tough out the weather, trying to keep your father proud or do you run and find somewhere warm to hide and wait for the storm to end. What happens after the storm? Was it big enough to cover the ground or just a small flurry?

The storm continues to toss and turn in the slate grey sky. Her ears are buffeted by the sound of a raging wind, while the snow begins to sting her violet eyes. Lumi looked around, alert for any close movement. But she sees nothing. She lets out little yelps, tiny little cries in hope for an answer.

But all she hears is the storm. Lumi holds her pose looking into the white tempest, her heart is beating softly against her chest, she is not afraid.
She’s like her father. She continues to brave the snow, walking along towards the big tree. I’m close to home she thought looking around wildly for any sign of her parents.

Lumi scratched at the tree truck with her paws hoping there was a hollow hideaway inside. Her hopes were quickly stolen from her as the earth below her gave way. She fell. Her reflexes weren’t fast enough for the event and she tumbled onto the ice. She lay silent. The fur on the back of her neck prickled up as she rose. She stumbled again. ‘My paw… it hurts’ . Lumi sat up this time, looking at her injured paw. There was no blood, just an ache coming from the joint.

Suddenly, her ears perked up again her eyes darted around to point out what just sparked her attention. ‘The Ice!’ She stood up. The ice below her cracking, and snarling. Lumi began to slowly hop to the edge, her front paw was injured so it would be painful to climb… but she must. She slammed one paw against the edge and pulled up, her hand legs scratching at the snow and dirt to hold her in place. Again, she pulled up letting out a soft cry of pain. But she fought on, paw after paw she managed to pull herself up.

She looked back, she was so tired, and cold. Even with her extra fluffy coat she was cold. “Lumi!” She heard a call. “F-Father?” She called out in return. Sure enough her father stood above her. “Darling” He said, pulling her close to him. “Your mother and I were so worried about you” He picked her up in his mouth and they went home.

Moral: There’s always someone who watches out for you. Don’t try to make others proud if you end up getting hurt, they’ll be prouder you knew when not to show off because you’ll come back safe and sound.

Ulaya Name: Lilia
Why did you choose that name?: It's a pretty russian name, and I think it fits the character that I came up with for her well. ^^
Gender: Female
Prompt Number: 3
Response:

The water splish-splashed loudly as the young Ulayas paraded into the clear liquid, calling and laughing playfully to each other as almost all of their fur was coated in the lakewater.
Only one of the smaller siblings didn't participate fully in this family outing. Lilia had joined them on the trek down to the lake, enjoying the sounds of the small animals and the feel of the breeze on her pelt. But water...no, water wasn't something she truely cared for. Lilia would let her kind and gentle mother give her baths, but her self-esteem dropped significantly when it came to stepping into the cool lake and treading out into the middle.
She couldn't swim! There was no way she could go out there!
Looking up from her spot on a rock that was buried in the ground near the water, she saw one of her siblings shouting and waving to her, beckoning her to join in their festivities. It wasn't every day they could come out here.
But Lilia just smiled her usual shy smile and waved sweetly back, hoping that her relatives would get the idea and leave her alone for now. The water, to her, was better for looking at than wading into. Much better.

Moving her gaze to the sky, she watched the clouds go by slowly, crawling their way across the blue to reach their destination...wherever that was. It was nice always having something to do though, she decided. Looking down at the grass and stone beneath her paws, the purple-colored child caught sight of some tiny leaves moving through the grass. But how could leaves be moving...? Lilia squinted and looked closer to find even tinier bugs beneath the leaves, marching through the tall foliage with their prized leaves. Even the small creatures were busy, too...
Unfocusing on what was below her, she looked up at the water and steeled her resolve. She was going to march right up to that water and at least..try...to get in. Yeah.

Carefully standing up, she creeped forwards, wary of the little guys that wouldn't be too happy if she smushed them. Sand and lighter dirt met her feet as she got closer to the dreaded liquid, refusing to look straight up and let the rest of her family see how much the poor girl was blushing.
Peering a little farther off into the water, her eyes were met with other eyes. Eyes of something that was in the water.
Something was in the water that wasn't her family!
Lilia squeaked aloud, tumbling back onto her butt and clawing away from the water, frightened by this thing that was looking at her from beneath the gentle lapping of the waves onto the beach.
Swallowing her fear, she looked back up at it again, surprised to see that it didn't move, and that it was still looking at her.

Well, it doesn't look all that scary...The child stepped foward again til her two front paws were gracing the water as it came in and out. She moved her head closer to the water to get a better look, but still, this creature was obscured by the liquid it resided in.
"Um, hi, there." Lilia tried a smile on, the expression nervous at it's best. The little water-dwelling guy didn't move. Lilia pursed her lips in a confused frown. What was this thing?
She stepped once to the left, still watching it.
This time, it actually moved. She blinked in surprise, then moved her other front foot to join it's partner. The creature moved again. Lilia could now see that this thing didn't have any feet! How was it moving without feet?
Forgetting all about her previous fear, she put one foot down into the water, trying to get a better look at this creature. As soon as she did, though, it flipped out of the water, splashing her and getting her fur almost soaking wet. Lilia couldn't be mad at it, though. This creature definitely wasn't scary at all! It was a little baby fish!
The child smiled brightly as she shook her fur dry, then moving to wave at the fish.
"I didn't know that there were fish here in this lake." She told it. "You're a cute little guy, even if you did get me all wet." Giggling, she sat down at the water's edge, swaying to the left and right and enjoying how the fish followed her movements, almost as fascinated with her as she it.

Lilia became so enthralled with the fish child that she didn't hear her name called several times by her father, who finally walked up to bring her back from her own little world with the gentle water and the cute fish.
"Oh, sorry, Daddy." She looked up at him, some of her violet pelt a little wet. "I was having fun with the fish!"
As they walked away, Lilia looked back at the water, grinning as she saw that the fish was still there, watching her depart.
"Bye, bye!" She called to it, hopping about a little. "I promise I'll get in the water next time and go swimming with you!"

Ulaya Name: Jabari
Why did you choose that name?: I like Swahili names, and it means "The Brave One." <3
Gender: Male
Prompt Number: 3.
Response:
Jabari curled his tail around him. He was unsure about going into the lake, even though he wasn't scared of most things. But this, water, frightened him. What if you couldn't touch the bottom? Or, what if you go into the lake to find you can't swim? It was terrifying for him, to take the chance of leaving behind his family. They gave him inspiration, well especially his father, Snowprint. Jabari looked up to him, because of how caring yet protective he was for his family. He wanted to follow in his path, and carry on the determination his father has.

His eyes flickered with shine as he watched his family, the sun shining down on each one of them. It was bright, maybe too bright even. But it was calming enough, but it sure was tempting to join his family, they all looked so happy together. He really wanted to go in the lake, so he slowly perched off the rock, and made his way over to the edge. He glanced over to his parents, who were a few meters away from where he was. He dunked his paw into the water and shivered. The water wasn't cold, but it wasn't so warm either. Just nice.

He sat at the edge, pondering on what his next move should be. If he never went in, he'd probably regret not spending quality time with his family. But if he did go in, there was a risk that he could cause something bad, which might put the rest of the family in danger and he never wanted to do that. He looked over at his family. He loved them. He would do literally anything to protect them, they were his life. He smiled at the thought of them all just having fun together in the lake. "I guess, it wouldn't hurt to try." He said grinning.

Jabari slowly made his way into the lake, calmly. His tail was in the water, followed by his two back legs, as he went in backwards. It was scary at first, but once he pushed off from the edge, he was doing well, paddling toward his family. This, is where he belonged.

Ulaya Name: Miya
Why did you choose that name?: I like the sound of it xD
Gender: Female
Prompt Number: 4 Wandering away from your siblings, who are exploring the territory to be more familiar with the family grounds, you come across a big, deep, dark cave. And you hear some sort of grumbling sound inside. You, born with intense curiosity, you wonder if you should take a look inside the cave, to see what's inside. If you go inside, do you see another animal inhabiting it, or something else responsible for the sound? Or do you decide it would be safer to be closer with your siblings, and leave the cave?
Response:

The young Ulaya had walked away from her brothers and sisters. Then moved to slowly and where holding her back! Whats the fun in exploring if you going about at the same speed as a snail!? This young Ulaya was going to get her kicks well she was young, with or with out them.

After a bit of walking she came a pond a cave. Her ears perked up and her eyes held a type a giddy gleam, "no way!" She rushed over to the dark mouth of the cave and peered in. "Ello!" It said ello back, again and again!? How many Ulaya where down there. "Ello? Who's down there!" This time all she heard was 'down there' a few time. "Stop making fun of me!" She bellowed, getting rather frustrated with the Ulayas down in the cave. Then it hit her like a stack of bricks. Her mum, the brilliant Ulaya that she was -well in her daughters eyes that was- had told her about an echo once before. This must have been it. "Icky Picky Ponky!" She Yelled into the cave at the top of her lungs. She giggled at her own silliness as she heard her words replayed through the cave till they faded away. Thats when she heard a chirping noise coming from the cave. Wide eyed she peered in once again into the unknown. "Ello?" She called again, uncertainty in her voice. This time more chirping replaced the echo, it was getting louder and closer. Miya ears flattened against her head as she stared into the cave. What on earth was making that noise? She thought. The young Ulaya didn't have to think long. Furry black, wings flapping, loud chirping, in the hundreds of bats came flying out of the cave. Miya was freaked out big time, she let out a high pitched scream and ran back to her brothers and sisters at break neck speed. Where it was save...for now. She would so bring them all back there later, after some food and a nap.

Capricorn Sunchai

Aged Gaian

[[Trying for the newbie box. <3]]

Username: Capricorn Sunchai
Ulaya Name: S'etsul
Why did you choose that name?: It reminds me of the tropics; and the white swirls on the box remind me of the ocean... I just think it kind of fits; reverse psychology, perhaps?
Gender: Male
Prompt Number: 3

Quote:
It's a calm warm day, and your family's taking a swim in the lake. Meanwhile you sit on a rock, not far from the lake, being unsure about swimming. After some pondering, do you decide to take a dip with your family? if not, why do you decide not to? If deciding not to, what do you do instead? just sit on the rock, observing, or look around your settings?

Response:

The sunlight spread its rays across the lakefront, basking the shoreline and the surface with a warm glow. S'etsul lay, contented, upon a smooth rock, eyes shut tight, warmed by the sun’s emission. In the background, the sound of water lapping the shoreline and small splashes could be heard, breaking the silence of this particular afternoon. The thick scent of summertime flowers filled the air, making those that were not otherwise occupied considerably lethargic.

Ruffling his tail, S’etsul stood, reseating himself upon the slick surface of his boulder. His auds were pointed forward, eyes watching as his siblings splashed and played in the tepid waters of the lake. It dawned on him at that point that he didn’t exactly know how to swim… he had never even tried to before.

S’etsul lifted his body from the rock and slid into the grass below, the thin, lakeside blades tickling his belly and nose. Trotting from his vantage point, he soon reached the beach, almost startled by the sudden change of grass to sand between the pads of his feet. Standing stark still, back half still comfortably in the grassy thicket, he pondered the act of swimming for a brief moment.

What if he couldn’t swim? What if he drowned before anyone could reach him? He shuddered mildly at the thought, lifting a paw to step backwards.

But then again… S’etsul’s eyes rested upon his other siblings, easily paddling through the shallow waters of this lake. It looked like fun; he wasn’t going to lie to himself. His bobtail wiggled and twitched a bit, amethyst-hued pelt ruffling as plants brushed against him. Boldly, he stepped from the grove, carefully making his way towards the water’s edge. Lowering his face to the ground, he cautiously sniffed at things like pondweed and shells, knowing what they were, but not fully understanding their scent- to him, they smelled marsh-like and wet, like dampened grass even.

The water’s edge was calm at this point; S’etsul’s siblings had decided to relax for a moment on the sandy shore. The waves lapped gently against his paws, cooling them from his trek across the sun-beaten shoreline. It was a soothing feeling, he mused; he could see why his siblings enjoyed this “swimming” so much.

Taking a few more tentative steps forward, it wasn’t long until S’etsul was up to his belly, his fur soaked through. By this point, he knew he couldn’t go back to the shore… he lifted his head as high as he could, trying to keep the water away from his face, before kicking out and paddling the best he could, mimicking the way he had seen his siblings do many times before. After a few moments of bobbing and splashing helplessly, somehow he got the hang of it and proceeded to paddle himself about the shallow waters.

Paws catching the sand below him, he pulled himself up to the shore, belly landing in the sand, the grains sticking to his soggy pelt. Huffing a bit from the energy he had just exerted, his ears drooped a bit from sheer fatigue. A smile curled itself at the corners of his jaws, however, and as his eyes closed to allow for a nap, S’etsul could only think of playing in the water for the remainder of the afternoon.

Ulaya Name: Alanna
Why did you choose that name?: To be honest, there was a series of books I read when I was young whose main character, Alanna, I was reminded of when coming across these Ulaya. So pretty, and yet carrying such strength and wildness- at least, that's how it looks to me, and Alanna was like that so. (also, please forgive me if I don't know enough innately about Ulaya yet- I just now ran across this page, so I haven't had much experience -_-)

Alanna shivered uncontrollably, huddling close to a tree she had found growing alone in the snowy wastes. Her lush coat kept her from freezing, granted, but she was still afraid. The storm had come about too strongly, and without warning while she was out exploring far from her family. Alanna had always been the adventurous type, enjoying the adrenaline rush coming with dangerous jumps or braving new territory, but this time, the fear was too much for her. "Perhaps" she thought behind her chattering teeth, "Perhaps this will be the last of my adventures." A second thought, coloured dark with fear and the sloth that comes with a cold heart, slithered into her mind; "The last thing I will ever do." This secret thought made her shiver worse, and she began thinking of her father. Snowprint would be so angry at her getting caught out here like this; hadn't he taught her especially how to deal with the elements of nature, to predict the weather and the ability to survive? Think, Alanna, Think! She could almost hear him say. You know exactly what to do.

She knew he was probably out there looking for her, his great paws padding near-silently in the snow. She hated the thought. "You know what I love about Alanna?" She heard her mother speaking once to another Ulaya. "She's independent. But you know what is most impossible about her?" She said laughing. "She's independent." Alanna was headstrong, certainly, and loved being out on her own. Her dad's teachings meant everything to her, and his pride in her abilities. The thought of her having failed him drove her practically into a rage, her mind racing to beat her own mistakes. What do you do, Alanna, what do you do?

One. Plants are living beings and thus are warm. She repeated to herself, staring up at the strange, lonesome tree she had chosen to ally herself with. Indeed, there was a tiny circle in the snow around the tree where the tree had melted the snow; but soon that would be gone, as the bark grew cold and only the inner wood carried any warmth. It was the only way she could conserve her warmth, she knew. She put her paws up on the trunk, pressing her belly as close as she could to the rough bark. The weight of the falling snow caused a branch to drop its load, thudding into the snow-dark evening loud as a pistol crack. Alanna jumped, looking from side to side and trying to push herself, hide herself in the tree. Soon she realized where it came as another branch dropped snow, and another, and she went back to thinking. Two... two.. What is two? Her mind raced sluggishly, her eyes closing with sleep in the cold. Two two two two...

Shelter. The word came as though through her very skin, but she immediately remembered the snow shelter concept her father had taught her with the fallen leaves and began to burrow. Soon, she had a cave of her own attached to one side of the tree, warmed by her breath and the comforting presence of the tree. She bristled her fur a little to trap the heat from escaping too far, and lay down, listening to the silence and periodic thuds outside. Soon, the wind began to howl outside the hut, and she was glad she had figured out the shelter before the storm had gotten any worse. Now, even if her father could find her at all, at least he would know she had been smart, that she had remembered everything all on her own, and would've been fine without him. She dropped off with these things in mind, the wind a dull roar outside the snow cavern.

Alanna was alone. The world was a white silent darkness, like the snow outside; she wondered if in her sleep she had kicked herself out of the cavern or something. The tree was there, dark and looming, but no snow was to be seen on its branches.
Rise.

The word seemed to come from everywhere this time, resonating without sound in the stillness. Alanna looked around.
Dreamer, adventurer. Always lonely one. The words creaked slowly into her mind, and she realized it came from the tree.
"Always lonely?" She said. "That's not me. I got my mama and my papa, my brothers and sister. I'm not lonely."
Will be. The tree sounded. Lonely tree in snow.
"Oh, so you're talking about you!"
No. You tree in snow. The tree's simple speech cut through any thoughts Alanna could have, dull and distantly sonorous.
"Oh." She looked down. "I don't want to be a tree-in-snow."
Will be. Unapologetic. You, carrier of knowledge.
"Me?"
Different. Lonely. Stand alone on the hill.
Alanna cocked her head, curious. "Knowledge?"
Nature speaks. Wind. Land of Dreams. Will travel here, loneliest hill. The tree paused. Speaker for the land.
Alanna raised an eyebrow. "What? Why me? I'm nothing special."
Always. Forever lonely. Irregardless.
The tree was silent. Alanna looked up into the branches, black branches which melded into the darkness of the endless sky. Me? Nothing special. Nothing, lonely? Not me. She thought, but she could see herself in the future, when she was grown, breaking off from her family and running off on her own, deep into the woods. What use then, would be her speaking with the land?
Survive. All Ulaya. You.
Alanna blinked. "To help everyone survive?"
As you did. At this the tree suddenly burst into light; Alanna was sucked into it, her paws becoming branches, stretching and sparkling into the sky, forever lonely lonely lonely...

Alanna woke up in the cave, seeing scratchmarks were her claws had scored the snow in her sleep. Batting a little at these, the now-thin snow wall of her cavern broke and showed her a sunny morning with the snow sparkling and birds chirping. She crawled out of the pit of snow, glancing up at the tree as she did.

"Always lonely, huh." She thought, awfully sober for her age. She listened, and almost imperceptibly felt the tree nod. "Well, for now, I will go home. I'll think." She stared at the tree for some time, then padded off over the melting snow, each footstep crunching on the thin ice. "To new adventures, huh."

Ulaya Name: Sehlabi
Why did you choose that name?: It means blue in the african language.
Gender: Male
Prompt Number: 1
Response:

The sunlight beamed heavenly through the grassy fields. Four kits, all a mixture of teal of blue in their fur, happily hid in the grass that grew above them. One of them jumped out of the grass, to be caught by another as she chased after her sibling. Two ulaya in the distant told them their parent's were watching calmly, enjoying the heat as much as them.

One of the siblings, the most shy of all of them, watched from a tree. Sehlabi's eyes grew wide as he watched his siblings play Hide and Go Seek in the grassy plains. One of them jumped out, just in time to prod the other one and then dart back into the grass for another hiding spot. Sehlabi stared in awe at their speed. He was the most slowest of his siblings and preffered to sleep in the shade, the sun was to much for his thick pelt. Sighing Sehlabi layed down and closed his eyes, ready to enjoy a nice peaceful sleep.

Another scent met his nostrils quickly, Sehlabi, scared for his life jumped up. He looked around wildly, his eyes scanning the horizen like blue jewels Nothing lay in front of him, shrugging the kit lay down again aware of the danger that finally lurked him. A prod sent more shivers down Sehlabi's spine, the kit spun around just in time to meet blank eyes. Another kit was standing over him, examining his thick pelt and growling cooly. This kit was red with purple markings, with white eyes that held no emotion.

"What is it?" He spat vicously, clawing up scraps of the ground. Sehlabi wanted to run to his father again and hide behind him, curiosity still brimming in his head. Perked by the ulaya's strange appearence Sehlabi dared himself to ask a question, "Why are your eyes blank?" he ventured, tilting his head.

The other ulaya snorted, closing his blank eyes and sighing, "Because of a trait my father has. I have his eyes, so I see like him." Sehlabi misunderstood 'see like him' but didn't venture any further to ask questions that would aggitate him. Itching closer to the older kit Sehlabi tried to smile, as if he had understood. Though that smile twisted strangely, the male didn't seem to notice.

"What's your name?" Sehlabi asked, calmly looking at his eyes again, "I'm Sehlabi."

The red kit gazed at Sehlabi, interest perking him even further to converse. Sehlabi didn't think the conversation would pick up, or even start. This kit was more isolated, he was farther away then other kit's he had tried to meet. Finally he looked at Sehlabi, a more interested look gleaming from his blank eyes. "Haseo."
