Koda scoffed, "Look at them up there. Iris is the brighter of the two... three? Three of them by far, it's entirely possible that it's a female and I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't get our hopes up. Besides, unless your eyes are so good that you can see something nesting between his legs then your guess is as good as mine." Koda tried not to express her concern over the lone female, she had to trust Iris to deal with it.
She was so caught up with Makani that her only warning that a second rogue female was approaching was a soft nudge from the female set as look out. Koda was secretly proud of her choice in look out. Even with all the hubbub going on the girl was still doing her duty. Koda shot Makani a look suggestive of 'shut the hell up for a moment' before turning to the newcomer. "My name is Koda and I'm leading this party. And you are?" She gave all her attention to the new girl, showing her trust that Iris would succeed in her dealings with the 'fireball'.

'Oh my.' Yakira about wanted to laugh her head off at this brightly colored female infront of her. 'And to think that I used to like Irises....and this thing with feathers has the same name!' But she realized that perhaps she was acting like that because of the male infront of them...were new males really that valued that harpies would become so vicious about it? Raising in the air above Iris’s head, she shook her head at the fire colored male showing him and only him her amusement at how Iris was acting.
But self-consciously she couldn’t help but to look down at her talons to where the red marks swirled. Angry marks reminding her of something that quite frankly she wished to forget. Hurt was written across her face, but she quickly wiped that off realizing that she was still in the male’s line of vision.
“It’s either putting up with some cold-hearted behavior or the cold of this snow.” She replied from behind Iris. “And quite frankly since only this freezing snow can injure my journey, I wish for shelter and nothing more.”

"I'm cold-hearted am I?" Iris asked mildly, not even bothering to glance over her shoulder. "Perhaps you'd like to explain to me why we should give shelter to one who insults us?" Yakari might have been amused, but Iris found herself wishing the Kendra was here. The Matriarch would give this ridiculous girl no quarter. "Begone with you. This is the colony's territory, and you've no say here. Of course, if you disagree, you can always take it up with Koda." She nodded toward the ledge. "Though I doubt the answer will be different." Males were valued, but they didn't need anymore females to provide further competition. They simply didn't have enough males to go around as it was. Lono was a child, Makani was irritating, and the others were growing old. And if she wished to debate the answer, well, sending her to Koda would at least get the rogue out of her hair.
Deciding that from this point on, Yakira was beneath her attention, Iris once again focused on Kitrio, fixing the smile back in place. "Do you have a name my friend? I'd like to know it. And I can assure you, that whatever she says," she nodded irritably towards Yakira, "we're perfectly aimiable. Nobody is kept against their will, and the Mountain provides a good home."

Faria bobbed her head in greeting to Koda. "My name is Faria. I was wondering and hoping, if you have any spare room in your colony that I could join your ranks. My home colony was destroyed in a naga attack and have been on my own since then. What with winter setting in, I was hoping to find a more welcoming home than mountain side crevice, with just myself for company." She shifted on her feet. A good portion of her muscles felt stiff, be it from the chill or from her sleeping quarters. She tried to make it comfortable as possible, but one could only do some much. If she had to guess, it'd be a mix of both.
Faria shook herself and refluffed her feathers. She was on the skinny side of healthy, but she took decent enough care of herself. She didn't get sick and kept herself clean and preened. "That is only if you have room and will have me. I don't want to impose if you can't handle more."

"I'm sorry to hear of the loss of your colony," she started, wondering idly if this girl was from the same group as Makani. Nagas didn't attack with such ferocity every day, it was quite possible! She'd have to introduce them later and ask. "You'll have wait until we return home to plead your case with Mother, but until then you're welcome to stay with us. Provided you're willing to do your share of work," she smiled kindly. "If you do well for the rest of the excursion I'll speak highly of you to her. Strong and useful and woman are always highly valued." Koda doubted that her mother would have any problem with a new female joining the colony. Many of the old cave networks were all but abandoned and there was plenty of space that could be cleaned and converted into new nests, living quarters and storage.

It would appear that females of his own kind were just as confusing as those with four legs. They seemed to be fighting, over him? What nonsense. He had been so glad to find others like him, but if they were all so contrary then he didn't think he could put up with more than one of them at a time. He merely listened for a while, his eyes going occasionally to the mountain. His wings were tiring and though he kept his talons close to his body, he could feel them growing numb with cold. He worried he would soon have trouble finding his footing no matter where he chose to spend the evening. He tried to clear his head and concentrate on what was going on around him.
So... one thought he'd be taken prisoner, the other denied it. One sought shelter, the other denied it though seemed to greatly want him to accept. He felt there would be no way for him to know who was telling the truth, he knew when Azure lied but only because he'd stayed with her for so long.
And Azure... she'd expect him back by nightfall. He could make it on foot, the snow would be difficult but he'd been walking in snow for many passes of winter now. He wasn't willing to give up this moment of freedom in flight though. No, she would simply have to wait. He felt some guilt over the decision, after all she would worry through the night no doubt. But he knew she'd forgive him once she knew the reason.
Having made his decision, he re-entered the conversation. "That I do," he replied. "I am called Kitrio. And I don't know about you two but I certainly could do with a place to set my feet." He looked up toward the red one. If she were right then he'd want someone on his side. And if she were wrong... well, he'd been raised on compassion. He looked back to Iris. "And I can see you have your differences, but I cannot take shelter knowing another would suffer." He wondered if the other was afraid of being out alone at night, what else could have caused the shadow across her face.

Faria nodded her head at Koda's apologizing on the fate of her previous colony. She smiled and dipped her head again as the teenage harpy continued. "I'm willing to do anything I can to help. I'll try not to disappoint. Thank you kindly." She interlocked her flight feathers and raised her wings a bit. She gave a small bow before straightening to her full height. After looking over the members of the gathered party she turned to Koda. "A hunting party, correct?"
((CV: Would you be up for Makani and Faria having come from the same colony? Maybe they'd know of each other or something, but not too closely associated. Up to you. ^^))

Yakira blinked at Kitiro, he was being nice to her? But her gaze narrowed...Does she believe that I am doing everything in my way to insult her?! I guess...I have been a bit rude. She lowered her eyes to look down at the caves, 'I guess...that I shouldn't be so angry at those I don't really know much about yet.' Still the sting of the past was hard to deal with when it came to her own kind.
Not knowing whether Iris would care to listen to her the harpy smiled gratefully at Kitrio but her face turned somber as she addressed Iris, "Forgive me for being so rude." She turned her gaze back down to the caves, "As you can tell I'm a loner and not used to others. Yes, I know that might not be enough reason for my actions...but it's the only one I can give."
She looked up, "You might consider yourself above listening to my plea from my behavior. I understand that well...but I do apologize once again." The wind blew strands of her hair into her face somewhat blocking her expression. Be more humble and less edgy and then they might let you stay for a bit... after all that was just what she wanted for now...a place to rest.

"I don't consider myself above anyone," Iris remarked shortly. "I'm not the one that was being insulting." Shrugging, she turned back to Kitrio, refusing to give Yakira any further comment. "You're much more gracious than I, Kitrio. She'll have you to thank for her shelter tonight. Now, since I am equally opposed to staying out here in the snow all night, let us continue this discussion in the caves shall we? I'm sure they'll have a fire going by now. And perhaps they'll even have taken the initiative to start on dinner."
She gave a small grin. "Makani will be grateful to have another male about I think. He does grow tired of the constant attentions. Not that it will improve his mood a great deal. Makani's mood never improves." With an amused roll of the eyes, the brightly colored harpy gestured for them to follow, then spun easily on her wingtip to glide down to the ledge where the rest of the party was waiting.
((That'd be just fine with me Avid. smile They could've fled from the same naga attack. Perhaps be aquaintances.))

Well, now that was settled, he glanced back and forth between the two of them with a smile hoping this meant an end to hostilities. One apologized, the other invited her for shelter. He wondered a bit about this Makani, it would be nice to see one of his kind and gender after seeing the two females and how they reacted to eachother. He must be important to have so much attention placed on him, maybe he was related to their Leader.
"Lead one," he said cheerily, glad that they'd have both warmth and food. Kit hung back a moment to give Iris room to lead and then turned to the red and white one. "Ya may have heard, but I'm Kit," he said, using his nickname. "Do you have a name?" He laughed with his eyes, knowing that if Iris caught on that he was mocking her question then she'd probably be angry with him, but he couldn't resist. Everyone had a name, what kind of question was that anyway?

Yakira grinned widely at his question, and definitely caught onto the laughter in his gaze. "I'm Yakira, Kit." She whispered her voice filled with warmth and gratitude, "But if it wasn't for you I'd probably be named 'frozen harpy'. Thank you...and for that if you want you can call me Kira."
Curiousity struck her suddenly and she asked, "How come you were flying in this cold weather?" Yakira tried her best to keep her voice to a whisper as she flew along side Kit. "If I may ask?"

"It's nice to meet you, Kira." He looked ahead for a while as they flew onward, both to make sure he kept sight of Iris and because he really didn't know how to react to her thanks. Creatures should look out for eachother, especially of the same species.
"Oh that," he said. "I, uh, was wondering the forest below... and decided to take a quick flight." He added, "I wasn't really counting on the snow though. How about you?" Taking his cue from Kira he too whispered, though he didn't really know why they were whispering. They hadn't shared any information worth keeping a secret - so far.
((Off to dinner.))

"A scouting party," Koda glanced at the sky for the first time since she'd started talking Faria. It looked as if the white harpy was causing problems after all, Iris was showing no small amount of aggression in her aerial dance between the two. For the first time since the fireball had been spotted, Koda was sure that it was a male. "Mother asked that we scout the nearby caves for areas that would be suitable for sister colonies in future years. However please excuse me for now, it seems we're about to receive some additional company." Surely enough, the three had turned in the air and started their decent toward the cave.
Trying not to show her excitement she shouted a command to her party, "Girls, you can all see Iris is returning with company! Head back into the cave for now and make sure it's warm and comfortable, understand?" She turned to Makani, speaking gin a half hushed voice. "You can stay out here to greet them with me if you want, I know you don't like having all the girls fuss over you." She was in an unusually good mood.
((EDIT: I have permission from CV to move Iris down to the cave 'cause she had to go and I didn't want to hold you all up as you seem to be in a posting mood. =P))

Yakira looked back over to him, "So you were walking through the forest?" She looked at the forest surrounding the area, "Me? Well, I've been flying straight for a couple of days only following the stream. You see, I met this syrin and he talked of so many different things that..." She looked down slightly embarresed, "I never even imagined could be true. And since I've been living alone for years in a secluded spot, you're the first harpy I've met in a long time."
"So you've never seen a harpy before?" She asked tilting her head to get a better glance at Kit. "Not even your own family?"

((Back from dinner... well, half of dinner. *eating at comp* wink ))
Kit wondered what amazing things a syrin could have to say, he'd only ever met two of them - one which cried the whole time and the other took delight in teasing them both.
Since they were nearing the cave, and Kit decided this was something best kept secret, he spoke rather quickly. "I was raised by a centaur." He watched closely fer her reaction, unsure what the harpies currently felt for others outside their race. He certainly knew there were still hostilities on the side of the four-leggeds, but did not know yet where the harpies stood.
Nynora sat by the fire watching it. She'd tried to help with the actually making of the fire... but that hadn't gone too well. Another girl was still tossing Nynora dark looks while nursing a some singed feathers. Nynora sighed.
She'd tried unsuccessfully to get some conversation going around the fire, but most of the others were more interested in trying to glimpse even just the feet of this new male while Koda greeted him. And sure, Nynora was interested to see the new male but it wasn't the only thing in life! With one foot she nudged the stack of kindling beside her, her fire fiasco had religated her to only adding to the fire when told.
