Dark Raven I am in shock... ugh Gaia changed because one little girl had a pushy mother? sheesh Though, they really shouldn't of had a case because of all the warnings.
Exactly, they could only base a case against Gaia if it was shown to not be doing anything to stop the problem.
And then all the Court could push for would be methods of stopping such things happening.
The fact that money was squeezed out of it is completely ridiculous.
@eater: Lol, isn't it pretty obvious that an avatar is an expression of yourself? He didn't really write a whole book about it, did he? xd

BlueRaven990 Exactly, they could only base a case against Gaia if it was shown to not be doing anything to stop the problem. wrong! bwuahaha! and so I doth quote, "The axiom "how a company handles the exception shows its integrity," is apropos here. Sherman is anxious to address the specifics and the issues that Clementine's experience throws into relief. Without coming off as defensive he begins, "I think we do a better job than almost all virtual worlds." He points out that World of Warcraft, which assesses a $15 monthly subscription fee (Gaia is free), does not attempt to deal with scamming. "They won't deal with it, it's your responsibility. And their goods are worth a lot of real money." That said, he admits, "We're may not have been good enough on a case–by-case basis." with that said, i'm off to eat lunch.

I assure you they have been taken to court on this matter, to witch they have always won. this is gaia, its free. they help you get there items back for the sole purpose of you being happy. if WOW can win, GAIA can easily point back to those cases, and thus trump whoever is attacking them. laymen terms, it has been attempted, it has failed, it is now precedent that you can not sue the web site for not getting your stuff back.

Exactly, more evidence to prove Gaia right and that whiny girl wrong.

(Just for the record I'm 13.)
That wall of text annoys me so badly, but I say "Leave it up!" for only one reason:
My friends have been scammed like that.
Now I'm going to go read up a bit more about this girl and her pushy mother.

The Honorable Judge Toast would've thrown this case out of his court so hard there'd be an audible sound effect for the action.
It would sound like this, "FTAAAAANG! (Fap fap fap)" Also, there'd be fireworks. OH YES THERE WOULD BE.
Also... Filing a lawsuit actually costs much more money than sixty dollars. As such, effectively this mom just paid money to ******** up everyones day.

Indeed, which is another reason why the mother is a complete idiot. xd

I SO wanna slap that kid's mom. stressed Now I think I know which side of the family Clamintine got her smarts from. >.>
Seriously, I was just shocked on how this kid and her mom reacted! Like everyone has said, the Gaia Staff has posted, literally, EVERYWHERE to not give out your password!
What's more, apparently, poor little Clamentine was psychologicaly scarred from it. If that's the case, then it's obvious that she was too obsessed with Gaia! The mom should've been a hell of a lot more Internet savvy, and known not to give out any personal info! Hopefully, the mom doesn't belong to any sites that include money; who knows WHAT might happen. rolleyes
The person who made the article was greatly misinformed. He might've gotten the girl's story right, but making her sound special and Gaia like a terrible place was just...idiotic! gonk

+--I feel sorry for the poor user who actually has the name bluebird. Anyway, what kind of idiotic person is Jack Myers? There is no case. The kid signs a contract, in this case it's agreeing to the TOS, and goes about a site where it tells you over and over and over again not to give out your password, how can you make a case of her going against that. I mean, with the amount of stuff she has on that avi, one can tell she's been here for awhile. I can say without a doubt, that she's probably seen the magic warning:

And if that shows up a lot when you send a private message.
I like the ending though. "Self-exploration is positive and should be supported and encouraged; and most importantly, speaking out is not just good – it can actually improve the quality of life for an entire world." Yeah, thanks Bluebird, thank you so much. Now we have a giant red and white post of doom to look forward to every time we look at a link. Your idiocy brings us great joy and splendid changes.--+

Okay, I am confused. Did anyone actually sue or get sued?
I thought the lawsuit was purely theoretical.
In any case, it shouldn't hold up. Though I do agree that getting banned OR hacked can seriously ruin your day, it's like suing walmart because some guy in a blue vest came up to you in the parking lot, and demanded all your stuff back, even when Walmart has signs everywhere that say "WE WILL NEVER ASK FOR YOUR STUFF BACK."

I was thinking that, I didn't think anyone got sued. Not too sure though, I thought I must have just mis read.
Either way it is truly truly stupid, how anyone can miss the whole thing of never give out you pass, I don't know! Also how 3 people all pondering whether to give out a password can miss don't give out your pass is just beyond me!!!
This entire thing drives me up the wall sheerly because it makes us all sound so thick! Most Gaians wouldn't fall for that, so having someone attack Gaia for being so terrible and horrid for not being really clear with us and talking slowly, just makes us all feel attacked, we're not all 13 and even if we are we can read and understand not to give out a password!
Also, what difference is this new pin thing going to do?!?! She thought about having a pin while all her items were stolen ........ erm, yeah ........ because a password isn't anything like a pin number. No, if someone had sent her an authorititive pm saying to give them her pass and pin, she would have known something was up?!?!?!
Argh! Too frustrating!
