Some thoughts:
We want to have the ball and award the House Cup on Yule - Winter Solstice, which this year is Dec. 22. So any contests have to be finished in time, and contests with judges, i.e art need more time for judges to turn in their marks. After experiencing a Halloween that was more complicated than it needed to be, let's have just ONE Art contest, with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
The problem with secret Santas is we all have different bank account sizes and matching people at random in houses -well I can't think of a fair way to do it. My idea is a variation:
Mirror of Erised, Local Edition -Secret "Father Christmas"
Everyone who wants to play lists Gaia items in the following range:
Gaia item:1. 0-300 range
2. 300- 1000 range
3. Merlin's Pants! No limit! ANYTHING from a pair of socks to the rarest of rare!
and perhaps 4. Surprise me! I like chocolate, things blue or green, and
cute shoes, no goth.
After that, we could do several things: Draw from a hat and match folks up and have them anonymously gift their secret partner something on their partner's list. We can reveal the partners or not on New Years.
OR we could have anyone gift anyone anonymously, you go over the lists and be a secret Santa ("Father Christmas" if we're keeping true to British ways) as many or as few times as you want. Each person goes back to their thread and posts when they're received a wish. We could also ask that each time you receive a wish granted, you give, say 25g per wish granted into a pool that will become the big prize.
We could number the posts like we did in Halloween and at the Ball or at New Years, pull for a big prize, with or without asking members to donate.
I'd like to get a Haven Yule banner for our sigs if I can find one that will work as well as the Halloween one did. If it's fan art I think we need to get permission of the artist though. Shall we open up a "Hogwarts Holiday Art thread just to see and because it's fun?

Orna turayza It doesn't actually need to be pairs... ie. ...errrr people A, B, C, D, E. A could be B's santa, B could be C's, C could be D's...E could be A's...etc. This is fun =D When is "Yule Time" ? If the fanfic competition is going to be set up (and judged before...whatever date is set) then notice should be given pretty early so people have a chance to think of ideas and write their stories out. Thanksgiving is in about a week. o__O Whoa that's fast... There should be probably 2 people doing the PMing so they can participate too... Would the art contest be just like the previous art contests? I never stated that there would be pairs - it would be a random matching. You simply needed to have everyone on a list and randomly match (1 with 18, 2 with 7, 15 with 9, etc). I don't mind not participating in the secret santa - that is why I volunteered. [I'd rather make sure that others have fun than have fun myself - besides it would be fun to work on it!]
On the other hand, it would be beneficial to start getting names soon that way we can have a cut-off date that would allow people to save/purchase gifts for their matches. Within a week or two I think.. What do you think LHH and others??
I thought the same thing, Orna. I suppose great minds think alike, but I think you should participate, I mean you didn't get to last time and I would be quite happy doing it myself. That is if you wish to participate. I think it would be fun to organize it. Anyways I agree with the cut off date thing. March_Hare` I thought the same thing, Orna. I suppose great minds think alike, but I think you should participate, I mean you didn't get to last time and I would be quite happy doing it myself. That is if you wish to participate. I think it would be fun to organize it. Anyways I agree with the cut off date thing. But refering back to Lady Healing Hands idea matching people by the price range they put, for fairness. Eh, but I don't need to participate. smile
I do agree with LadyHealingHands on the different bank sizes - if we wanted to incorporate that with the random matching, it could work out really well.
The only thing with the anonymous gifting is that I would worry that someone might be overlooked and not get anything where someone might get more than one item. I'd hate for that to happen. But the 25g to go into a pool when they've received a wish sounds great.
SO:
We create a list based on price range. People post what range they want to be in - we place them in there and do a random matching (1 to 5, 3 to 8, 8 to 1, etc). If we have an uneven number - what do you propose? I like the idea of posting 25 gold if you get one of your 'wishes' (aka an item on your wishlist) into a big pool. When they post that they've recieved a wish they can number their post to 'enter' into a drawing like we did with the halloween. The prize can be the money or a big item.
What do you think?
Whatever we decide, I do think we need to start the thread up for people to sign up soon, to give everyone a chance to sign up and be matched (for those that might not be logging on a lot).

I suggest a christmas fan fic contest. Possibly a one shot fan fic. Or maybe a secret santa? You number all who enter and we roll the dice with the correct number of side and you have to give a gift of no less than 500 gold to the person that you rolled the number of. I think those sound like some good ideas. I can probably come up with some more ideas. I love this black and white of Harry and (I assume Ginny) kissing! I wonder if any of our members are talented colorists - it would look splendid in color.
I like the dice roll idea, but it would have to be for moneys or a prize coming from the guild. It would be unfair to force a member to pay a prize. Some can afford it, some can't. I'd like to do a similar thread to the Halloween Boo, perhaps when you gift someone or receive a gift you get one chance towards a big prize. We could send holiday owls or trolls to each other, as well as friends... again, getting more chances at a big prize.
We've had very generous donators in the past, so I'm hoping the holiday spirit will be rampant in you all-it would be great if our gift could be a yeti or a pixie or something like that!--LHH

I think I've got the Secret Santa-Mirror of Erised, taking in your ideas, and throwing in some of my own. Let's go with the following, tho I'm open to refinements on it, or unless someone has a better idea. I think this gifts the maximum, is the most fun and lets the greatest number (even Orna and March!) play: Instead of matching people up by prices and partnering them by price range, let's have EVERYONE list 3 wishes (Erised desires) in the 3 price ranges plus a surprise me! with a brief description like "I love goth", or "I like green and silver items." Anyone can gift anyone anything on their "ERISED" list or a surprise me- I like ______ item, anyone can receive from anyone. We number the posts again. Posting your list gives you one chance. People post each time they send a gift: I gifted a Ravenclaw, I gifted a Hufflepuff etc. and after Christmas we can post what we gave to whom. They don't say who they gave the gift to yet. They get one chance per each gift they send. We send each other "Harry Haven Holiday/Christmas Greetings" all through the Guild --and to friends not yet in the Guild-- You get one chance for having one on their profile, one chance for having one in your signature (plus 5 house points) one chance for every time you send a greeting (post one greeting on someone's profile). You choose a greeting from the Holiday Banner contest (see first post on this thread) or create one of your own and send it to AccioFunds, who posts it without saying who made it for any Guild member to use. We send out Holiday greetings with a Haven card, like we did for Halloween. (By the way, we've already received 2 entries from sharp eyed Havenites which I'll post as soon as I finish this post)! When you receive a gift, you come back and edit your first post. "I was gifted this! Thank you, secret Santa!" (or whatever). You make a donation to Accio Funds. You get one more chance every time you receive a gift. After New Years, on Boxing Day January 1, we do a drawing for a big prize. I'd like to offer a rare, like a pixie or yeti or another gwee. Or maybe a first generation Corallus egg, Dandy or a Celebrity date? I have 2 July letters I can sell, and with donations, we'll have enough gold to get a good prize. I really like the new rules, LHH. Seams like it'll work. As for the prizes, I think the pixie and Yeti a great idea for a prize. *sniffles* I miss my Yeti.

HERE TO HELP! I am now devoted to help by all means! (If you want it...XDD )
As for the Santa gift exchange I would like to tweak a few things. It would be very close to the "BOO" of Halloween but I think this should be more broad due to different people celebrating many things. From when I was little Nickelodeon had a ChristmaHanaQuanzika. I know its long but well not all of us do Christmas and such. Now what we might change from Boo is that not everyone was reporting gifts and sadly Boo was never returned to the main forum or my self on Halloween. I am not so sure how to get around that. But I was thinking that my self or another would randomly pair up people from a forum who said they would like to participate. And each person would get an unanimous gift from someone. Now I think that there could be several rounds such as three gift exchanges in all. Its a rough idea. Let me know what you think.
Also I think maybe we should have more then one main RP forum. One for the common rooms preparing for the Ball. The entrance courtyard and such. Just to give it more room to grow. Also with the outstanding number of females (most all of us) will we fake RP dates and such?
