Cause he's a good player, and the drug thing is in the past. This is exactly what I meant by "you people", people who won't let it go. BTW, I watch all kinds of teams.

Shawne Merriman is a really good player...But best defensive player ever...? What about Lawrence Taylor (one and only original LT), Urlacher, Deacon Jones, Bob Lilly, d**k Butkus, Mel Blount, Alan Page, Reggie White, Champ Bailey, Michael Strahan, ronnie lott, bruce smith, mike singletary, Ray Lewis, joe greene, derrick thomas, merlin olsen, deion sanders, ...there's more, but i'm drawing a blank gonk

Yah, I would admit that all those players are good. I respect Reggie White, greatly. But I'm talking about this generation, not what, 5 years ago. Urlacher is this generation but he is still not quite as good as merriman, steroids or no steroids. *not* But, the other guys are retired, I'm sure. Correct me if I'm wrong. So, say what you want but I'm sticking to my opinion. [Opinon means that whatever you say is neither right nor wrong]

Yes, I think Merriman can be the fiercest linebacker over the last 5 years along with Ray Lewis, although he isn't as great as Urlacher. Brian U. is not only great against the rush and at pass rushing, but he can do something that most linebackers cannot anymore- drop back and protect against the pass.

sarahbearak20 I guess... but my opinion still stands. ... 2004 NFL Draft ... sound familiar? Giants receive: * Rights to 2004 1st Overall Pick, Eli Manning. Chargers received: * Rights to 2004 4th Overall Pick, Philip Rivers. * 2005 1st Round Draft Pick - Used to draft and sign Linebacker Shawne Merriman. * 2004 3rd Round Draft Pick - Used to draft and sign Kicker Nate Kaeding. * 2005 5th Round Draft Pick - Traded to Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Left Tackle Roman Oben. One of the many New York sports horrible moves in recent history (including the Knicks giving away picks, and the Yankees bad pitching) (also, if you want to go deeper, in soccer, the New York Red Bulls made some stupid moves involving players and draft picks). ...guess you got your favorite QB for a bargain, your favorite LB for free, and an over-average kicker for free. stressed gonk

That little dude is flippin strong, and sure can block. He also overpowered his way in for his TD. btw, who's that LT at your RB? There's only one true L.T., so just call him LaDanian Tomlinson. wink

My favorite players would be overly stacked with the Packers, so I'll just give a mention to a few of my favorite non-Packers: Walter Payton, Barry Sanders, and Jerry Rice.

I am happy that they are doing well, and probably have a Wildcard spot in the bag for this year. Relating to the trade, I've learned one thing about Eli. He has potential to be a great quarterback, yet he often makes stupid decisions when under pressure. That's even with a good offensive line, great receivers and tight end, and 3 (currently) good running backs that can make things happen when catching the ball.
