It's not that "out of the way". It's mentioned in the episode where they play tennis that L was the British Junior Champion.

L's voice is so deep and he always sounds bored! He sounds like he's pissed off at everyone and they're just wasting his time. Which is kind of how I imagined his voice when I read the anime so I guess that's kinda good.
I laughed SOOOOOOO hard at the "I am L" scene because they screwed it up so badly. It was like all one word "I just wanted to tellyouthatIamL." And he wispered it all gayly too! Afterwards I went around the house speaking like that. O, and it sounded like after he said he was L he was going to say "Can I have 50 cents for a soda?" I don't know why, but that's seems like the next thing he's going to say.

It's going to be funny when he falls off his chair after they watch the Kira video.

Light's voice actor also voiced Lan Hikari in Mega Man MT Warriors I died a little inside when I heard his voice...
L's voice actor voiced Gambit from X-men and I think his voice is okay not great but not nearly as bad as Light's
Ryuk's voice actor did many small roles in Inuyasha and well I think he's voice sounds the best compared to everyone elses except Ryuk's voice in the dub doesn't have that screeching quality like it did in the original.

GAH! Ok... let me get things straight in here. First of all, never trust Wikipedia, they edit things there like bloody mad. L Lawliet was never mentioned to be born anywhere really. He was however partially raised in Wammy's Orphanage, a place where they raise the most gifted of mind to become future detectives. Wammys is located in Winchestor, Hampshire, ENGLAND. No matter where L was originally born, he was raised since a small child in England, so of course the accent would develop.
What are you people assuming? That children born in england grow the accent because it's genetic? They only gain it by ear, which is more of the reason as to why L develops it.
As for Viz's work. Well, just by hearing that they'd take it under their wing, it's easy to predict that their voice talent or choosing actors would be poor. Death Note should have been taken under a more suitable VA company, I believe.
This is how I see it, Ryuk voice sounds way too light, insane, but not expected for his character. Raito sounds way too... young and vulnerable. For those who are new to the series and don't get what I mean, watch some subbed or RAW, and you'll see the major difference. L sounds way too old. He is only 25 (or that was his age when-----). Misa sounds like some robot. She should have more beat to her voice, and not like some one who is reading the script for the first time before the mic.
Their acting isn't all too good either. Not saying that they do majorly bad (because it's not easy to act behind a mic while people are starring at you on the other side of the window from your studio room, trust me). But they could have at least tried instead of sounding like beginners or something like that. Or at least they should watch the subbed version before taking it into their own hands (something Vic M. did before doing Edward Elric from FMA, and he did a very good job)
