Kichea looked pensively at the butterflies, examining each one carefully. She wanted to find the perfect one, it had to be pretty and special. "hmmm" she said quietly. She looked over them for a few more minutes when a large, shiny, purple butterfly came up out of the flowers. "I want that one mommy!" she pointed with her paw, being careful not to scare it away.

Amadet waited patiently as Kichea thought, looking out over the butterflies and trying to guess just which one the cub might pick. She suspected it would be the prettiest of the bunch, for that seemed the most obvious choice for any little girl- especially Kichea. Amadet, however, had her bets on a fluttery blue butterfly when Kichea pointed out the shiny purple one.
Close, but not quite.
"Ok, watch it carefully," Amadet instructed in a whisper, watching the butterfly herself, "Watch where it goes, how it moves- when it gets close enough, try to get it."
This would be interesting to see. How would Kichea try to get it? How would she interpret the instructions?

Kichea watched it, her eyes gleaming. She sat as still as she could, the purple butterfly flitting lazily about. She smiled as it approached the flowers nearest a large rock. She knew that if she could get it cornered beside the rock she could catch it. The butterfly landed on the biggest flower right in front of the rock and Kichea flew into action. She pounced on the butterfly catching it between her paws, firmly enough to keep it there, but not hard enough to squish it. "Look mommy!" she beamed.

Amadet lay perfectly still at her daughter's side, watching the purple butterfly move carefully. Being as large and awkward as she was with respect to the butterfly, the lioness knew she had little chance of catching it herself, but still she tried to pick what would be the best moment to go after it, if she were to try.
Funnily enough, Kichea sprung away from her side much sooner than Amadet expected- but at the exact right moment to catch it. She even seemed to land delicately enough to not kill the pretty little bug. It made Amadet very proud.
"Good work, Kichea," she beamed, watching as all the other butterflies fled urgently from the cubs side, "You did it!"

Kichea smiled, "I did, didn't I?" She carefully brought the butterfly back to her mother's side so that it could be inspected. "Look how shiny it is mommy!" She moved the butterfly around gently watching the sunlight reflect off of its wings. She thought for a moment, "Mommy, why was this the only butterfly like it? All the other butterflies were a lot alike." Her nose scrunched up in concentration as she studied it.

Amadet was a very proud mother at the moment, and was especially pleased that Kichea calmed down enough to bring it over carefully. Yes, all the blue cub needed was something fun to focus on. She laughed as Kichea manipulated the butterfly so show off it's shine, considering the question herself.
"I don't know, Kichea," she said finally, wondering what imaginative ideas the cub might come up with, "Why do you think it's so unique?"

"Maybe it's an important butterfly... like a queen butterfly or something along those lines." She looked down at it her eyes wide, "That would make it really special, maybe I should let it go now?" She looked to her mother for what she thought would be best.

"The Queen of Butterflies?" Amadet repeated with a gasp, widening her eyes just as Kichea did and beaming at the blue cub, "I think you should let it go, then. The butterflies need their queen, and you only wanted to practice anyway, right?"

Kichea smiled down at the butterfly as she gently let it go, she followed it with her eyes as it flew away. "There mommy I let it go, I hope that it gets back home safely." She jumped up and then rolled in the grass laughing.

Amadet watched as the butterfly fluttered away as well before looking back down at Kichea with a smile, "That was very good of you, Kichea. And very impressive that you could catch it without hurting it too much, you're going to be an excellent hunter."
She laughed as the cub rolled around in the grass, "What about us, think we can make it home safely?"

She smiled and looked at her mother. "Nothing will hurt you as long as I'm around." She jumped up and looked around. "Okay mommy, the coast is clear."

Very proud, and rather amused, Amadet smiled and waited for Kichea to make sure everything was OK so they could get home safely. When the small blue cub announced that the coast was clear, she nodded and stepped out after Kichea.
"Then we better get going," she said with a laugh.

She walked quickly back the way they had come, not wanting anyone or anything to surprise them. "Hurry mommy! It will be dark soon.." Kichea picked up the pace, nearly running now.

Amadet bit back a laugh at her delightful daughter, jogging along behind her and being careful not to overtake the little leader. At this pace, they would be back home in no time, and surely would be explaining to the others where they had been.
