Nereid looked around as she marched.

~How much longer?~ she asked herself, shivering in the cold. Her gaze settled finally on the ranger, Dean. A blush arose to her cheeks, but she managed to hide it with the fact that her cheeks were already rosy from the weather.

A small tweet could be heard from a pocket on the inside of her cloak, close to her breasts. She had added it herself for the sole purpose of carrying her pet sparrow.

"It's okay, Semele. We will soon be able to rest..." she murmered down the neck of her cloak. A sudden gust of wind blew her off balance and into the female soldier beside her.

"S... so... sor... so... sorry..." she managed to croak out, sputtering. After a closer look at the girl's face, she recognized her as the one who was known to not talk often.

"Huh? Oh, it's ok," Kenya murmered, not really fazed by being run into. Flux started meowing strangly, and she looked down at her cat curiuosly.

"What is it? Are you hungry?" she asked gently, lifing him up a little, "I fed you not that long ago." Flux was looking at the other girl's coat, his tail swishing, as it frequently did when he was hunting, even though he being held. He meowed agian, trying to move toward the other girl, and Kenya glared at him, "Bad Flux! Be nice to her. I'm sorry, my cat is so strange sometimes," she gave the other girl an apologetic smile, though her eyes remained empty from her loss.

Nereid shook her head. Reaching into her cloak, she pulled out Semele.

"I think this is who he wants. This is Semele..." she murmered, keeping in rhythm with the march.

Kenya giggled for the first time in a while, "Oh, I see. Flux. You just ate! Leave the poor little bird alone," she scolded gently. The cat meowed, and twitched its ears irritably as she held him more firmly than before.

Dean was sitting down on a tiny stump of what use to be a tree looking around at all the people in the camp and petting his horse named Tug, he sees the girl almost fall over because of the wind.Dean gets up and sets up some targets on a near by tree then moves twenty feet away and starts to fire his arrows. Like all rangers before his arrow even reaches the target he has got the next ready to fire after fireing the few he had on him he went and collected the mfrom the taget. Dean then slides them into the quivers on the side of the horse both holding his last 30 arrows "well this well be a enteresting test but as soon as it is over" he clinches his fist and punches the tree "I will make them pay for beating use and taking are country."

As Teroh marched along in file his arm began hurting again. He lifted up his sleeve and examined his wound. What was there was what had been a large cut, caused by the most recent battle. However in order to maintain a good pace to get away from the other army he had not not had time to get it healed instead he used his own magic to cauterize it. However now it was starting to turn red and the area around it was starting to swell. 'I hope we find a suitable place for camp soon' Teroh thought as he put his sleeve back down. 'If we don't this wound might get very infected.'

Rena White followed behind the majority of the group, treading through the snow. She would occasionally turn about to watch their backs, but there were no signs of trouble anywhere; it wasn't surprising to her though since there wasn't much visibility in this weather for there to be any enemies, or so she hoped. Rena gripped her bow tightly, and covered her face with an arm; there was barely any feeling left in her noes or cheeks. She looked forward ahead wondering when they would find a good spot to rest, when she noticed a fellow examining his injury. He seemed to be a mage as she watched him tend to his arm with what she thought was protective magic, and not a healing skill. Rena motioned closer to Teroh and asked with little interest, "Are you going to have a cleric look at that wound?" She smiled ever so slightly with her numb lips.

Nereid smiled along with Kenya and realized with a jolt that she hardly knew the other girl's name.

"Oh, sorry, I'm Nereid. You know, like a sea nymph?" she asked, giggling.

Teroh was slightly surprised when someone walked up to him and asked him about his wound. "Yeah when we break for camp I will, but for now sealing it with fire will have to do." Teroh for the first time looked up at the person that was talking to him and those around him, and realized that she like everyone around him were starting to get numb from the cold. "Here this should help," Teroh said a small incantation and a medium size ball of fire appeared in his hand. Although it was small it was rather hot, heating up the five or six closest people to him.

"Kenya. It's a pleasure to meet you," Kenya smiled slightly, extending a hand for her to shake while still holding her cat. Even if she felt empty, she could still be kind to others.

The fireball lit up from the young mage's hand and warmth exuded towards Rena. She was surprised by how affective it was and with that, she nodded her head in thanks at Teroh. "Much Appreciated. That truely helps a lot," she said to him. Rena lifted her bow over her shoulders to free up her hands of which she rubbed together to keep warm. She then excused herself for being rude and introduced herself, "Sorry, I would offer my hand as a greeting..." She observed her cold hand, his arm, and the fireball and continued, "...but, I'm sure circumstances would make it inconvenient for us both, hehe. My name is Rena White. It's nice to meet you, kind mage."

They were cold. They were hungry. They were bleeding and sore. Some were even broken. Jericho looked over the survivors of his contingent and sighed; he had failed them. The attack had decimated them, enemies literally appearing from the forest and mist around them, cutting down good men and women with promising futures. How many families lost their sons and daughters? How many families had lost their last chance at a surviving lineage? "How could I fail them," he asked himself quietly, "How could I let them down?" Of course, why shouldn't they have failed? He was no leader, he was no warrior. Hell, he wasn't even a successful alchemist, anyone who could see his face would know that. He pulled his hat down against the bitter cold, his hard violet eyes glinting out of the narrow opening between hat brim and collar.

He reproached himself mentally, Stop whining you dolt! They haven't given up yet! Look at that one, Teroh, chatting with the archer girl . . . what's her name . . . Rena! She's even smiling. Broken people don't smile, you idiot. he crossed his arms, wincing as the clotted blood over an injury tore loose, spilling fresh blood down his coat. The soldier had been good with a knife, not as good as Jericho with a blade, but good enough to cut the general deep. It would need stitches.

"That will have to wait," he said quietly as her retrieved a first aid satchel from his bag. "Alright," he said as he left the safety of his depression, immersing himself into the crowd of surviving soldiers, "Who needs first aid? I have a few good kits left, let's make use of them."

Amos trudged along beside Avitus, the beast was tired. He would be too if he had himself sitting on his back for hours while traversing this godforsaken wasteland. He kicked his feet on the ground, trying to get some feeling into them, but they had long since gone numb.

Ahead of the rest, all he saw was the blinding white and glimpses of sharp peaks in the distance. That was where they needed to go.

That was still far away.

Amos turned his head around and saw Jericho, a respectable man, handing out first aid. They should have stopped to treat wounds before, but that would have been too dangerous. They couldn't afford to lose any more able bodies. Avitus whinnied beside him, causing him to turn his attention away from what was behind him, and back to what lay ahead.

After a few minutes of marching once again, Amos stopped. He let go of Avitus' reins, trusting him, to stretch his back. Looking back again to the rest of the army, he realized how desperate they really were. This was the first time in the history of their country that they had been beaten so badly.

There was no other way to describe it, they would need something akin to divine intervention to save them now.

Grabbing Avitus' reins, Amos turned around and headed toward the General. "General." He stated, being respectful and waiting for him to acknowledge his presence.

"Take this and bind that broken arm," he said to an archer, handing him a medical kit, "Make sure you keep the stitches tight and close, otherwise they're more likely to tear." He continued on, weaving through the survivors; it was probably a job that the clerics should be doing, but he had to do something, keep his mind off the failure. Off the resounding defeat that he had let them walk into. He had to stop thinking about how he had f-

"General."

The gruff voice could only belong to one man, and it knocked Jericho out of his inner monologue. He turned, saluting the other man, "Greetings Commander Amos, what can I do for you?"
