The Death Blues Mix Griggle990 I have never understood why people think that Citizen Kane is the best movie ever. I say that Star Wars episode 3 is more than 10 times better. You have no taste.
At Arvis: Apparently I have no soul. I'll just go enjoy watching Citizen Kane.Man, how can you NOT enjoy that film?? Trying to sweep a woman off her feet is the single most exhilarating thing a straight man can do, so a movie about that very thing she be enjoyed by all straight men! And I've never actually seen Citizen Kane... I just know that it's his sled and I feel like that knowledge would somehow lessen the impact of the film on me.

In your first viewing it would help not to know but his dying words have almost nothing to do with the actual story. However, even if you know about Rosebud that doesn't mean you know why he said Rosebud.
Plus, the dialog alone trumps nearly anything written in the post censorship era and especially movies now. The little details, stage tricks, use of camera, characterization, etc. It's just extremely well done. The whole movie is basically a comedic tragedy.
About Hitch, meh I've just always had a bias against the whole idea of sweeping a woman off her feet because it's just never portrayed in a natural way. It's always some special trick, or how to guide, etc. etc. By the time someone does away with the tricks and what not the rest of the movie ends up so unnatural.
Hence another reason Citizen Kane was a great movie. The actors were natural in their roles. Granted they were primarily stage actors at the time and not movie actors so the idea of being a character was much more important. Hence why a majority of great actors in our day tend to be character actors and not stars.

The point was that there is no trick or how-to to falling in love, it just happens. But I'll admit you now have me interested in seeing Citizen Kane.

Arvis, I'm actually going to have to put up Casablanca on my top ten at no. 3
Just got done watching it again for the first time in five years and I've forgotten how good it is. Though, it seems to be a common trait for the time of movie making but goddamn the writing is good. I'd forgotten just how many things quote Casablanca.
Now that I'm a bit older and a bit wiser I've finally come to realize that the "romance" really isn't important at all but really it's written more in a sense to hide the actual development of the plot itself.

Casablanca is damn awesome. Probably the single best movie made before 1960 if you ask me.
