As Vasu flopped onto his side, the mare nosed at a few curls along his neck. Moving them aside before laying her chin along his hairline. All her children had gained those curly locks. Though it was to be expected. Her and Hok'ee both had curly manes and tails. So of course it would be passed on to their own children.
She nuzzled his neck softly, glancing at him with a careful look. Her next words coming easily. "You'll know." Chu's tail tapped against the ground a couple of times. "Just be yourself, thats all you need to do. If a mare cannot love you and appreciate you for who you are, then don't give her a second thought. You should never have to change or conform to someone else's ways just to gain their affection, Vasu."
Moving her head slightly side to side, she let a small sigh escape her lungs. "Its a normal thing for one your age to be thinking about things like this. So many paths lay before you for your future and you don't want to spend that future alone. Thats understandable."

How nice it was, to be so close to his mother again. He tried not to enjoy it too much, he wasn't a foal after all, but he couldn't help himself. He closed his eyes and relaxed, feeling as if nothing else mattered anymore. His mother had that effect on him.
Her wise words were exactly what he needed to hear. Especially knowing that he could be himself. That was his greatest concern. He felt that perhaps he had to change how he acted, and conform to the way other adults carried themselves.
"It's nice to know that mom. I was worried that being myself wouldn't be enough, but hearing you say it, I know that it is." he smiled warm heartedly, even if he couldn't quite see the look on her face.

"I know one day you will find a wonderful mare who will love you for you Vasu. When that times comes you will know. And it will be the happiest day of your life when she tells you she loves you." A small sigh escaped her lips once more. It was hard to talk about this.
The fact that all her babies were grown now, thinking about love, traveling to far off places, living their lives and not needing their mother's watchful eye all the time when they were little. It made Chu happy yet sad all the same. The time when they were foals seemed so short and fleeting.
Nibbling on her son's ear for a moment, she took a deep breath. "And, once you find this mare. Eventually I'm sure you will have foals with her. And that will be the second happiest moment in all your life. Theres nothing more wonderful than watching your own flesh and blood, the little creatures you created together grown and learn. It may be awkward at first, dealing with them. But there is no scripts written down to help you along the way. All you can do is wing it, really. But I'm sure you'll make a wonderful father one day, my son."

One day... he thought to himself. How long would that take? "I will try to be patient as I wait for all this to happen." He replied, as he listened to the almost longing edge to his mothers soft voice.
He thought about how she might be feeling at the moment, his eyes scanning around as his mind drew closer to a possible answer. Vasu'Raj wasn't the brightest when trying to read these things.
His ear turned at his mothers touch, twitching for a moment. Her words fell lightly on his ears, and he this time sensed a little more to his mothers longing. He didn't quite understand it, but felt that she might be lonely. It made him wish he could be a foal again, just for her. He liked feeling young anyways.
He drew in a slow breath, and closed his eyes. It would take only a moment, before he drifted off for a nap. He would stay by his mother, at least for now.
* * *
Hok'ee was bored out of his mind. He huffed into the wind with frustration. He had not seen any sign of the ones he called family. Vasu'Raj, one of his sons, had never been too far, but now even he was nowhere near. He couldn't help but think he had neglected to do something, or go somewhere. Most of his time being spent preening himself, and making sure he looked good if he ran into Chu'mana.
It had been too long since he saw her. He decided that perhaps she was waiting for him, as he had been casualy waiting around for her. His heart ached, longing for her touch.
And what of Shadi and Yiska? It had been even longer it seemed, since he had seen the two of them.
The chill of winter was increasingly close as the days went by, and it made him start to worry about their well being. He took pride in anything that had to do with him after all, and his family was his greatest prize.
Picking up his feet, he paced himself fast enough to get where he was going, but slow enough to not break a sweat. He never liked the smell of sweat, and worse, didn't want anyone else smelling him in such a way.
Where he was going? He didn't quite know, but was sure he would find out soon.

The steady, soft breathing that her son soon took on gave her the notion that he had fallen asleep. A giggle shook her small body as she shook her head just lightly, but still kept it in place on his neck.
Her ears flicked back for only a second as she remembered those days when her children where young. All of them, herself and her mate included would bed down for the night. Curled up against one another in a small gaggle of bodies.
Soon, though. The sound of quick hoof beats caught in her ear. Lifting her head just slightly, her eyes darted around. Looking for their source. A small puff of breath left her lips as she gave a small snort. Perhaps it was just someone passing by. But one never knew now a days. Not with Kalona and now Skinwalkers roaming about.

After setting out, he had caught the familiar smell of one of his sons, Vasu'Raj. He set this smell as his path, following where it went.
Hok'ee had been on the move for a long time now. The moon would rise soon, but not before the sunset. It began it's slow move towards the horizon. He began to move with new speed. He wanted to reach his destination before sun-down. His nostrils flared as he thought he smelled a new smell, sweeter that that of Vasu. Was he with a mare? That wasn't it, and excitement coarsed through his body. It was the smell of Chu'mana.
Suddenly, the winds picked up to great speeds, forcing his hair to wip around in his face. He kept moving only briefly, before stopping to turn against the wind. His hair flipped back the opposite direction, now dancing behind him. It was much more desirable, than having it in his face. He toke pose, imagining how great he looked standing there, with his hair in the wind.
He waited a moment for the winds to die. He didn't want to travel with the wind, and screw up his curls. He closed his eyes, and imagined his mate.

Her ears continued to turn this way and that as she continued to listen to the hoof beats. Lifting her head just a little more so she could glance around with better ease.
But suddenly they stopped. A curious eyebrow raised as she still couldn't quite figure out where it was coming from. And now that she didn't hear them, it made it almost impossible.
Chu's nostrils flared for a second as she took in a deep breath. Scenting the air. But the smell of Vasu over powered most of what was around. He was so close that only his and the drying grass around them is all she smelt. Perhaps it was some sort of Soquili with wings and they had flown off? That would be the best explanation as to why the sound off hoof falls ceased.

The breeze passed, and Hok'ee opened his eyes. An equal vision of Chu'mana standing in the wind had entertained him briefly. He reared in the air, spinning on his back legs and landing only to take off on all four.
With a little more speed, he ran towards the smell of his family. He could run faster, but didn't want to be too winded. His eyes scanned the area, looking for a sign of where they might be. Without knowing, he ran right past the tree in which they laid under, passing on the opposite side.
He halted with a dead stop. He was sure they were around here somewhere, he could feel it. He caught what little breath he had lost, and craned his neck from one side of the horizon, to the other. He still didn't see them, not thinking to look directly behind him.
Pulling himself tall, he thought about calling a name into the dusk.
"Chu'mana" he spoke with bold confidence, sure that even if she couldn't hear him, it wasn't a waisted breath, just to say her name aloud.
Vasu, lay sleeping, unmoved. He was at the point of napping, where he would sleep through almost anything.

Chu's ears perked high as she caught the faint sound of her name being mentioned. A familiar voice had spoke her name. Could it be? After this long?
Her heart nearly skipped a beat. She wanted to run to him. To gallop off after the one who plagued her dreams at night. And yet she did not want to leave Vasu on his own. He would awake and she would be no where around if she left him.
Flicking her tail with a new spark of excitement. Lifting her delicate head a bit higher, she glanced about. The sound of hoof beats had flown right past them. But she was sure it was him. "Hok'ee?" She called his name loud enough for him to hear if he was indeed nearby. Her voice soft and questioning as she waited for a reply. Or for him to come cantering out of the shadows that the trees cast around them.

Standing still for a moment, he heard his name.
She was near after all.
His head whipped around, to see the familiar swish of a charcoal colored tail. He had ran right past her. He picked up his hooves and slowly moved over her way. He tried to not be too stealthy, in order to not startle her. Laying beside her, was the rump of his son, napping it seemed.
He moved round the tree, and too it's front side. He craned his neck around it, to Chu. "Boo." he said softly, a deep smile warming his face. The rest of his body then followed around the tree. He only held the vision of her face as he stood above her, and didn't even think to puff himself up to impress her.

Her eyes went wide as that familiar white face peeked around the tree. She couldn't contain her excitement and joy any longer. Slowly she slipped away from Vasu's side, lifting her body off the ground and quickly made her way over to her mate.
Lowering her head slightly, she looked at him as if he was almost a mirage. A figment of her imagination. Small tears welled up in the corners of her eyes as she nestled her head under his chin. Leaning an ear against his chest, just to hear his heart beat. To make sure he was truely there.
"Hok'ee..." Chu's voice wavered slightly. "Its really you isn't it? I'm not dreaming am I?"

Hok'ee was right. The rump next to Chu had indeed been Vasu's. He tilted his head to the side, smiling as he watched Chu move. Her look, one that he hadn't quite expected, but it had been awhile.
He snuggled her with his chin as she rested underneath him. He drew in a deep breath, holding it for a moment. She felt so good this close to him. Without notice, he closed his eyes before breathing again.
He suddenly felt more concerened than he ever had been, hearing her voice shake. He had to keep his cool though. "Well...I am kind of dreamy." he assured, pulling back from her to flash a dashing grin her way. His face held it for a moment before melting to a softer look. "Of course it's me silly." he said as he cuddled his chin above her head again.
Vasu had barely noticed his mother move, but had stirred when he heard the voices of his parents. He kept his eyes shut, giving the illusion that he was still in slumber. He almost lost the facade in laughter, at his dad telling his mom he was dreamy. He managed to listen a little longer.

Swallowing a small lump in her throat, Chu'mana let out a relieved sigh. At least he wasn't hurt, or whatever else her imaginative mind could conceive. And now he had returned to her. It was almost like last time. Only, he remembered everything and wasn't a wandering lost soul as she had found him then.
Still. She would of gone through it all again just to have her Hok'ee back.
A giggle shook her small frame as she pulled her head back as he did. Giving him an 'are you serious?' look. They had just come across one another only seconds ago and he was pulling the smooth guy. "I'm glad its you then and not a dream. Every time I thought I saw you always turned out to be nothing more than desperate imaginings." Her curls pressed down against her ears as she curled her head under his chin once more.

Regret tugged at his pride. Staying away, wasn't something he had done intentionally. He took a deep breath and sighed into her ear, speaking as clearly as he could. "Chu'mana, I love you. I am here, for you." There wasn't any question in the way it was said. He didn't doubt it, nor doubt that she knew. Nothing could ever take away his love for her, even distance. Distance actually seemed to be a key role in their relationship, making their meetings dramatic when time was done leaving them apart.
A sliver of light pulled into Vasu's eyes, as he peeked up at his cuddling parents. They looked so adorable together. His heart sunk, wanting such things for himself.
The black stallion took notice of his son. He wasn't sleeping anymore.."Ahmm.." he cleared his throat, almost demanding that his son stop his charade.

"I know. And I love you too, Hok'ee" A slight glance at her mate, and there it was. Still nestled in his mane. That rainbow ribbon that they both wore. It was such a silly thing, but it meant quite a lot to the mare.
An ear turned towards the direction she had left Vasu sleeping. Until her entire head turned around to cast those green eyes upon him again. With a small smirk spreading its way across her dark lips. She took a few languid steps towards the larger form of her son, heaped on the ground. And with quick precision she gave his rump a harsh n**. "Spying on your own parents are you?"
