-okonomiyaki o konomu- I agree there were a few hints in the 7th book (before the 7th book, you really don't have much, but we also knew very little about him in general anyway). Another thing (and I can't quote it since i don't have the book on me) is the letter than Dumbledore had written to Grindelwald. He mentions something about how happy he was to have met him, or something along those lines. I know other people definitely started to suspect that Dumbledore was gay from all of that. (I think there was a thread about it in the main forums) Also - it was brought to my attention that "our mutual attraction" was the phrase used in the letter that Dedalus Diggle wrote to memorialize Dumbledore. That was the prompting for my friend to wonder about their relationship. When you put it together that Dumbledore and Diggle were supposed to tour the world together - it makes you wonder.

Actually, the first real hint was actually on page 21, chapter In Memoriam in the Deathly Hallows. The hint was given to us by Elphias Doge. This is directly taken from the beginning of the article written by him.
"I met Albus Dumbledore at the age of eleven, on our first day at Hogwarts. Our mutual attraction was undoubtedly due to the fact that we both felt ourselves to be outsiders."
Well, I don't know about you guys, but I don't say that me and my friends have a... "Mutual attraction" to eachother...

I agree with Kitsune, there are tiny bits of hints in the book. I wish all my HP books weren't boxed up right now or else I would be poring over the previous books to see if there was anything in there too.

I kind of thought the same thing at first, because you know people mostly go on trips around the world alone if they are couples or doing research. I kind of thought that at first, but then thought naaaaaaaa. Another thing is why would Rita Skeeter make up the thing about Harry's relation ship with Dumbledoor be unhealthy if she didn't know he was gay? Harry was pretty close to Lupin, and no one made a fuss over that lol (although it was only a short period of time).

Ive just been in an ecstatic happy haze for days now after hearing this news. The implications that such a small part of this great man, what it will ultimately do for gay rights, tolerance, acceptance.
You know, like he didn't need to tell anyone, but he wasnt secretive. He was a wonderful person and he was a role model. And him being a homosexual character and it not having a crazy huge influence over the story, its just a huge step for the next generation and the acceptance that should already be there but now definably feels accomplishable in our generation, like legalizing gay marriage etc. Like obviously tolerance wont happen over night but I think that this will certainly help.
Im so happy that Jk announced it. I am so proud of her. And everyone who is anti gay, shame on you!

I wasn't so surprised to be completely honest. I suspected that he might be gay when I read Elphias Doge' words about him.
And I quote; "Our mutual attraction was undoubtedly due to the fact that we both felt ourselves to be outsiders."
I know it's been said before, but this line immediately made me wonder. And I am glad he turned out to be gay! The only thing the Harry Potter series was missing was a strong, homosexual character. wink

I can't take credit for this, I saw it in the Harry Potter subforum, but we all know that JK had a thing for anagrams; "Albus Dumbledore" anagrams to "Male bods rule, bud."
xd
Imagine what one could come up with if they used his full name.

...Am I the only one that suddenly started to miss Dumbledore tremendously?
Why did the man have to die? crying
..Well, perhaps he'll meet Grindlewald again in the afterlife. And they could have a nice chat over a hot cup of overly sweet tea, and lemon drops.

Somehow I doubt a 'nice chat over tea' is all that they would be up to.
Snuggling is in there somewhere!
