Kichanga wasn't conscious of much, and it was actually... kind of nice. It was like getting the rest he couldn't get earlier. He'd been so tired. Maybe... maybe he just stay here and rest. Yeah. That sounded nice. Maybe he should just go to sleep. His mind started getting fuzzy...
Then he, very faintly, heard a voice, and somewhere distantly he felt a touch. Oh, right. Bambadenge. She was still there. He probably shouldn't go to sleep on her. Thus, he willed himself awake...
...and immediately regretted it. Now he could feel the soreness in his body and the throbbing pain in his head. With a loud moan, he clasped his paws to his head, though that wasn't doing him much good. He couldn't remember ever having a headache this bad. "Good golly, that hurts," he grumbled.
Then he glanced up at Bambi sideways, and saw her worried face. Oh. Poor thing. Kich forced a little smile for her. "Hey. Hey. I'm fine. Don't worry about it." And he wagged his tail, though it hurt to move.

"Oh, oh, I'm so sorry," she cried, terrified at what had happened to him, ignoring his reassurance. "It's all my fault. If only I hadn't bothered you at the waterhole this morning." Oh no, what had happened to her fun. Crushed. Ruined. Nonexistent. This was horrible on so many levels that even extended beyond her selfish ones.
She bent down and nudged him as though she could evaluate just how badly he was hurt. "C-can you move?" she asked, worrried. His moaning was a clear indicator against it but she couldn't help but ask least she worry too much, something she normally avoided at all costs ...by avoiding situations she thought would put her in that state. Clearly, she hadn't done so well.

Kichanga found himself unable to decide which hurt more: his aching body or the distress which Bambi was in. He felt bad for the poor girl, it wasn't her fault... really. Frankly, Kichanga thought it was more his fault for being so overzealous in tackling the zebra... but clearly she was plagued with her own guilt. He struggled to sit up as he spoke through his teeth. "No. No. Don't blame yourself. I pushed myself too hard. You were fine." He gasped a little as he finally got himself sitting up and leaned against the ledge behind him.
For a moment he just rested, chest heaving from exertion, eyes half-shut. He figured he shouldn't shut them all the way, in case he had a concussion. But when Bambi questioned him, he managed to crack one eye full-open for her. "Dunno," he said, then cracked a grimmacing smile and said. "I probably should, though, huh?" He pulled himself up onto his paws and limped a little closer to his companion. "Hey... think you could find a way out of this brook-bed where the climb isn't so steep?" The thought of trying to climb that ledge right now seemed impossible to Kich.

Fact of the matter was she couldn't help but blame herself for the way things had turned out even though she wanted to believe and accept his assurance. So giving her something to do such as search for an easy way out of this ravine, she readily accepted her taste and rushed off to complete it.
She eyed the current terrain so that hopefully she would be able to recognize better one. Then, she bolted down the floor of the ravine to find what he had asked her to locate. Everything seemed to look the same. The only difference was the varying placement of rocks. It seemed so hopeless.
Then she tripped over a rock as she ran, absorbed in the walls of their semi-prison. She cried out and hit the ground with a loud "ooumph". She blinked, having the wind knocked out of her, and let her vision clear. But the first thing it had to focus on was a snake curled up before her, its neck shaped dangerously like one ready for the attack. It flicked out its tongue in warning and rage. She quivered so scared and rushed to her feet, pressing herself against the rock wall. She certainly didn't want to get bit. But there was a large lizard along the rock wall and she pushed away, frightened. She ran again but not so much in eagerness as in fright. Oh was she ever going to find a way out?
Finally, she found an elevation that looked plausible for him to climb. But it was so far away. How would he ever make it this far? Upset, she slowly picked up her feet and walked back to him, incredibly wary the whole entire way.

As he paced staggeringly from wall to wall, Kichanga too felt a little guilt bubbling inside. Not that he thought the exact course of events was in any way his fault, but he still felt partially responsible for Bambi's sadness by sheer presence, and by having been so hasty as to have gotten himself hurt. He wished he could think of a way to cheer her up.
He was already starting to feel a little better, though, actually. His soreness was abating as he got himself moving, bloodflow and oxygen repairing his worn muscles. He paused a moment in his pacing, thinking he'd heard Bambi cry out. Frowning very slightly, it took him a moment's pause to resume his pacing. He certainly hoped he had just been hearing things, and that she was okay.
And so it was with his own wariness that Kich awaited his companion's return. Every once in a while he paused to gnaw anxiously at his own tail; he was never any good at waiting. When he finally saw the purple dot approaching from the distance, his tail set to wagging. "Bambi!" he called. "Boy, am I glad to see you! Are you alright!? I thought I heard you yell. And did you find a way out?" He shuffled back and forth on his paws in anticipation.

She walked back up to him, a long enough walk to compose herself for the most part. "Yeah, I'm fine," she said a slight whine to her voice. "There's a way out but it's a pretty good walk. " She made an apologetic look. Maybe though if they left now, they could make it before the sun went down. She needed something to work out for her. Had she known any better she might have thanked the stars she wouldn't remember this day.

Kichanga took a moment's pause to study Bambi. She said she was fine... but she didn't quite sound it. However, she didn't look injured or especially traumatized in any way, so he smiled bright once again for her. Whatever it was that troubled her, he was sure she would get over it. He didn't suspect for a moment that she'd forget it entirely... but as an optimist he believed in everyone's ability to rebound. He limped forward with great determination. "It's fine, really," he assured her. "I can make it. I'm already feeling a little better." He beckoned for her to join her. "Now show me the way." His tail lashed encouragingly.

((hope you don't mind if I stick an ending on this))
Bambi nodded solemnly. Getting out of here would make the day better, positive. Which was the best she could probably hope for. And his smile cheered her a bit, a smile trickling onto her own face. " 'kay, I can do that." If his injury wasn't too bad, maybe they could make it out of here today so that tomorrow would be better. Her upbeat part ignored his limp just a little, treating it more as though he had always limped. Maybe it was a bit pathetic or selfish but it suited her just fine so she didn't bother changing her ways. "Watch your step."
