Castellan tried to discreetly glance down at his hooves. No, they weren't silly or little, and his fins were hardly wings. His grin returned. He would have to go on an epic quest to find a duckling, it was a little odd being compared to something he didn't understand.

"You'd choose not easy because it's more fun," the stallion said, like it was the most natural fact. "If complications come up, usually they are fun too, and thus worth the trouble that arises because of them. It's all part of the adventure!"

He smiled back as he curled through the water, undeterred by the mare's frowning. From the looks of it, she needed to have more fun. A lot more fun. Maybe they could hunt for a duckling together...

"Whatever you just said sounds exhausting, and confusing." She then said, while holding a slight glare. "I understand that you are an expert on 'fun', but not everyone chooses to live that way."

Couldn't he understand? Some creatures were naturally pissed off, and she was one of them. "I try to stick to what IS comfortable, and anything that takes no effort is comfortable. Like this talk we are having is uncomfortable, because I am having a hard time expressing the truth to you." Feeling weary now, she slanted her eyes and gazed at him, while blowing a few bubbles out of her nose.

"There is a reason some creatures are born opposites, like you and I. Nature made such easy for us and others to determine." Still being the grump she was, she waved her tail and sighed at him quietly.

"If you were a grumpy personality, that would be weird, right?"

Although Castellan was quiet while the mare talked to him, the mer's body didn't stop moving and occasionally he looked a little distracted. There was always a hint of a smile on his face, if not a fullblown grin. Her grumpy gestures were nothing new to him.

"But I'm not a grumpy personality." He replied brightly. No sense in imagining he was one either, it seemed less fun that way. Who could have any excitement always huffing and sighing and snapping at others?

His grin dulled to a less vibrant, but still cheerful smile. "We don't have to talk if it makes you uncomfortable." He could be considerate sometimes, but that didn't mean it occurred to him to perhaps leave and let the mare enjoy some peace and solitude. He still trailed along next to her, he just didn't blabber about anything while he swam.

Once again, the mare found herself confused, and she lifted a brow while she looked at the stallion "If we don't have to talk, then why are you still tagging along with me?" That didn't even make sense! Silence was uncomfortable anyways, and it was something one usually did when alone!

Ugh, whatever. The mare lowered her ears and increased her speed, while flapping her side fins annoyingly. This was incredibly uncomfortable, and it only proved to her why she hated having to entertain company.

"Don't you have better things to do, instead of trailing besides someone like me? I don't have anything fun to offer, so why are you wasting your time?"

Castellan's smile didn't falter. "I'm keeping you company," he beamed while happily cutting down on his twisting and winding to keep up with her. He was pleased she was moving faster, this was a much better swimming pace.

He didn't even pause to think about her second question. His biggest reason for hanging around was because of the novelty of it all, but that wasn't what she had asked. "But other things are more boring. I know, we could go chase some really big fish or something... I bet you'd be really good at it! Or we could go find some ducklings?"

Wouldn't it be wonderful if she could show him where ducklings were!

Ah, so it was the ducklings that motivated the stallion to follow her! Curiosity seemed to get the best of some creatures, and Zulu grunted at the newfound discovery. "Heh, ducklings." She then muttered, before stopping her quickened pace. "Fine, I'll go show you where the stupid ducklings are. Maybe then you will leave me alone and follow them!"

She quickly turned her head to face him, and kept a normal frown through her words. "Alright, ready to follow? I don't know why I am even asking, you seem pretty good at following."

And with that, she turned herself around and swam upwards, letting her side-fins open up and allow her to glide gracefully. "If you lose track of me, I won't stop and look for you." she then yelled, while assuming that the male was still behind her. They would need to travel upwards, since ducklings swam above them.

Castellan nearly swam right past his unwilling companion. Yet he barely had time to stop and give an eager nod before he was once again following close behind the kelpi mare. If he got any closer he would practically hinder her swimming.

"I'll keep up!" He reassured as though she cared, while inside he bubbled with delight that they were going to do something fun together. He wanted to speak up and say she wasn't all dull and boring, not if they were going on an epic quest to find ducklings together, but she didn't like him talking so he just grinned instead.

Finally he couldn't keep quiet any longer. "After we follow ducklings, maybe we could chase some really big fish. That would be lots of fun!"

Ah well, she was starting to get used to this bouncy stallion, and since he WAS so kind and nice, she decided to let his energy and craziness slide past her. "What kind of big fish do you want to look for?" she then questioned, though she kept her eyes off the stallion. It was embarrassing enough being nice to a stallion, since she usually despised them so much!

Bringing herself back on subject, she pondered for a moment before trailing further. "Hmm.. just a bit farther." she then said with a strong nod, before raising her eyes to the now brighter surface above them. "I don't see any legs swimming about.. hopefully we can find some ducks.."

It was worth a shot, and Zulu kept herself preoccupied with the task, since she despised failing at anything she did. Plus, she always needed to be right!

Castellan grinned brightly. So perhaps she was interested in chasing a fish with him, even though she was too grumpy to want to say it outright. He could deal with that, and his babbling started anew as he happily thought about her question. "A really big fish. Like a tuna, or a giant pike, or a shark! Or a mahi mahi, I've never seen one of those but I heard they are pretty funny looking. Maybe if we go out far enough, we could look for a whale. I can't think of anything bigger than that."

He peered upwards as she did, hoping to catch a glimpse of whatever the grouchy mare was looking for. "We're looking for legs?"

"Yeah, I know what you are talking about." she then said, while increasing her speed a little bit. Since they were now traveling up towards the top of the ocean, she needed to keep her pace swift.

"Bleeh, I don't see anything up there, that is a bad sign." she paused for a second, and then glanced at the stallion. "Have you ever stuck your head out of the water? I know Mers can't walk on land or something, but I think it will be funny to see your reaction. The outside world is really gross and dry.. and hot." His face would probably be in for a shock!

"Well, do you want to try?" She moved herself so she was now directly under the bright ending to the ocean. And, without even waiting for the other stallion, she plopped her head out of the water, and squinted at the other world on the 'outside'. It wasn't as hot as the last time she wandered around, but her neck and face instantly felt dry at the new scenario.

"I go out of the water all the time! It's not gross or hot or dry though. I think it's a lot of fun, and the air is usually really cool, and it's really weird how my mane sticks to my face instead of floating around in the-"

Castellan poked his head out, and immediately cut off his words and squinted his eyes comically. It was hot, even with the slight breeze cooling his face, and it was so bright... He had only ever come to the surface at night before, it seemed like a different world when it was all lit up like this.

He seemed completely unaware of his uncomfortable, squinty expression. "Do you see any legs up here?"

Zulu laughed when she noticed the stallion stop his speech, and she scoped her eyes about while shaking her head. "Damn, not one duckling.." as her voice trailed, she stopped herself before squinting in the distance. "Oh, there is a bird over there! Its not a duck.. but it looks like a sea gull. He must be looking for fish while floating around." The white bird was lazily drifting just to the right of them, and she was glad he could see at least ONE bird.

"So, have your eyes adjusted yet? It may take you some time." She shook her head while smiling, before realizing how silly the stallion was. "I almost forgot you had hair.. I guess its easier for me to get in and out of the water since I have no hair myself." She wiggling the fins that were on her head and then sighed, before looking to see if the stallion was comfortable.

Castellan's squinty frown turned into a squinty grin. It was undoubtably goofy with his mane plastered down around his head and neck, and certainly did not bode well for whatever was causing the grin. "I think my eyes are adjusting, I see a little white bobbing thing." He replied, following her glance. "It's not a duckling?"

Without waiting for a reply he ducked back under the water and zipped off towards the unfortunate creature, which took off not long after Castellan disappeared from view. Of course he reappeared with that same squinty grin exactly where the seagull had been floating before it was disturbed. "It had legs!" The mer stallion called happily.

"Well, of course it had legs!" she then chuckled, while raising one of her brows. "What did you expect? If it didn't have legs, it would be unbelievably strange!" she shook her head playfully, before lowering her own head back into the water. She really hated staying above water for too long, and she waited to see if the male would follow her.

Zulu looked around at the remaining area, and she realized they had reached a very boring patch of nothing. There was barely any seaweed, and there were no fish swimming around at all. "This area is kinda spooky, I wonder if it is someone's territory." That thought alarmed her, and she didn't realize they had drifted so far it in so little time. "I wonder if we should head back.." and if Zulu should get back to her OWN territory, since she would have been pissed if someone else took over her spot.

Castellan followed her lead and ducked his own head back under the water, and swam back to his now-less-grumpy companion. He knew she would enjoy an epic adventure, even if she did insist she liked things boring and easy. Everyone loved an adventure.

"If they didn't have legs that would make them interesting! Everything has legs, I think, except fishes... and the stuff that doesn't move, like seaweed and rocks..." The stallion seemed completely unphased by the change of scenery, and for a time, more concerned about the intricacies of classifying objects as either having legs or not. "If it's someone else's territory, maybe we'll meet someone interesting here. Then we can all look for ducklings! Unless it's spooky because it's the home of a giant ghost fish."

As always, the concept of 'territory' completely escaped him.
