He'd lost her a little ways into the forest as she ducked through bushes and he actually began to notice the drifting smoke. Eyes narrowing as he suddenly realized the danger, Dart leaped into the air, cutting through the air much faster then any regular flyer - his wings acted more like jets then normal wings.
"Antonia!?" He called out, unable to see her but faintly hearing her voice. The crackle of flames and whoosh as logs began to fall dominated his senses, however, and he growled, avoiding the flames as much as he could. As far as he knew, he would be burned as badly as any soul caught in fire. "Toni!? Where are you?" He called again, rearing up as a burning tree limb fell right before his face. Cinders flashed across his fur and he blinked his eyes shut reflexively, turning his head aside.
Only there came no pain or smell of burning fur.... Confused, he settled onto the ground and reached to run his paw over the side of his face. No stinging.... But he was sure those cinders had nestled into his fur.... shouldn't he be burning? And yet he wasn't.
Frowning, he inched forward and prodded the burning log before him with a quick jab. No pain but the fire literally flared before his eyes. Falling back, he stared as the flames settled down once more. "Where are you!?" He looked up once more and, inhaling deeply, he bounded through the burning barrier - causing it to flare like a jet as he passed through and it responded to his latent power.

Choking and coughing on smoke, Antonia fought not to panic, finally spotting an area that looked just a little bit clearer of flames and darting toward it. A few wisps of flame clung to her fur and the tip of braided hair, but she batted at them until they went out, ignoring the little stinging pain. The smoke was more of a problem right now ... that, and trying not to get trapped.
"Here!" she called back, hearing Dart's voice in the distance. She was scared, but trying not to let it get the best of her, trying to be brave like she knew her father and uncle would be.
But little did she know that she'd gone the wrong way. Confused by smoke and flames, she had moved closer to the center of the fire ... rather than farther away.

Dancing around falling trees and debris not that he'd found the flames energized rather then harmed him, the Red Dragoon darted through the labyrinth. When he heard Antonia's cry, it was vague, barely able to be heard above the roar and crackle of the fire. Cursing, he spun about, crying out as a branch fell across his back. The flames that ate at the wood roared and flared as they came near, adding to the maelstrom that surrounded the dragoon.
Damnit... this was troublesome... he settled on the ground once more, realizing that his flight probably wasn't helping the contain the fire. Grumbling, he chased after the female. This wasn't how it was supposed to go... Growing concern made his heart thump louder. He had to do something! Growling, he flared his wings and the flames swept out, forming a clearing around him. Blinking again, his frown quickly grew into smile. That was useful...
Taking off, this time by foot, Dart raced through the burning trees, blinking away tears as smoke stung his eyes. While it wasn't hurting him to breath it, it was still a problem to see through... and he knew it was dangerous for others... "Antonia!?" He had to fly to clear a particularly large burning log, and caused the fire to flare around him as he burst through the wall into her little clearing. "Are you alright!?" He dashed over to her, bumping her side with his nose and looking her over, obviously concerned.

Antonia jumped and backed up when the fire flared up on one side of the clearing, jumping with a yelp when she actually hit a burning log behind her. Dammitall....
Then eyes lit up and she started to rush toward Dart, meeting him in the middle kind of. Coughing, she said, "I ... got burned a little but other than that, fine. Just ... can't figure ... how t'get out of here!"

As she spoke, a tree that had valiantly been withstanding the blaze toppled with a sickening crack, branches crashing down around them. Without thinking, Dart shouldered her out of the way and spread a wing over her like a shield. Huffing from the running, he nudged her again, a determined smile playing across his features, "I'll make a path... dont' worry. You'll be safe." Had he not been with anyone, Dart would have simply flown away... but he wasn't about to let a fellow die.

Toni squeaked when the tree cracked, freezing and staring up at it as the thing fell toward them. Oh no...
But then Dart was shoving her to one side, spreading a wing ... and though sparks from the tree flew over to settle on that wing and his fur, he wasn't burned by them ... what... was going on here?
Now was so not the time to be asking questions, though, and she knew it. "Ok.." she said quickly, staring at him. "Go... I can keep up."

He smiled at her encouragingly, making sure she was sure about what she'd said then started running, heading straight for a wall of flames. "Keep close!" As he drew near, then leaped over the obstacle, he flared his wings and the flames parted long enough for him and someone else to pass through should they be quickly enough.
On the other side, a sort of burned out corridor had formed... trees stood like flaming pillars to either side of a small trail littered with smoking debris. Rounding a corner, he glanced back to make sure she'd gotten through. Have faith... he told himself. If she said she could keep up then she could. She was strong... capable.

Toni hesitated only a second when Dart jumped straight through the flames and then she shut her eyes and jumped after him ... trust. Had to trust that he could do what he said. And if not, well, she'd just get burned a little more.
Landing on the other side, she fought back more coughing, trying to save breath for running ... getting out of here.
When Dart glanced back, she even managed to summon up a smile for him, bounding along just behind the other.

He heard her cough and winced... right. Fresh air. Fresh air... he looked around, hoping to find somewhere less smoky. He shook his head, unable to find what he was looking for and instead, leaning into his run, "Come on... We're almost out!" He smiled in return... glad she was spirited enough to smile.
Winding and navigating the area, the air slowly began to clear and the flames died down... he was leading them upwind and away from the fire. The quickest way to safety. Every once in while, he'd forget himself and fly rather then run over some obstacle, causing it to flare up. And each time, he'd glance back, make sure he hadn't sure Antonia. What was the point of saving someone if you were only going to hurt them anyways? The last thing he wanted was for her get hurt.

Toni nodded at that, and grimly kept running - noticing after a few minutes that the air was getting a little clearer. They were going to get out of this! It would be ok ... just keep running.
And then Dart jumped over something and spread wings out, making flames flare up. Toni shied back, away from them, eyes widening. s**t that'd been close. She knew he didn't mean to do it, though ... just, for some reason, fire really liked him.

When she didn't follow, he blinked and spun around, leaning up on the log and sticking his head through the flames to peer at the other side, "Antonia!?" He called, loudly so that she would hear in case she'd gotten lost.
Spotting her, his expression turned from pointed worry to mild concern. She was alright... thank goodness. "Come on... we're almost out..." He urged with a smile on his muzzle. "I know you can do Toni." Then, as though remembering he was standing in flames, he flapped his wings, causing them to burn low.
"Sorry...." He sounded sheepish, embarrassed. These abilities were new... and he wasn't sure how he could control them... he'd make an excellent arsonist but Dart wasn't the type for wanton destruction. Which made him wonder how this fire started in the first place. It had been a peaceful day... not stormy or dry...
He shook his head. Questions for later. Right now he had to ensure Antonia's safety.

Toni raised her brows slightly at the flames all around the other, until he somehow put them out using those wings of his. Only then did she venture forward again, hopping over the log in the way and then standing still for a minute to catch her breath.
"S'ok ... just ... uhm. Try not to do that so much?" she asked, managing somehow to drag up a smile from someplace. All the smoke she'd breathed in was starting to make her feel a bit sick, to be honest.

His ears drooped a little and he nodded, "Sorry...." Dart noticed the slight wheeze in her voice from the smoke and frowned, turning to leave the forest completely. They weren't in a completely smoke free area quite yet and he didn't like the rasp in her voice - he knew smoke was dangerous.
However, he had second thoughts about simply leading the way and returned to her side to nudge her shoulder, "Think you can make it the last little bit? I'll... carry you if you'd prefer." To demonstrate his point, he settled onto the ground and lowered his wings so that she might fit between them. He may not be strong enough to fly while carrying another but he was certainly strong enough to walk - especially after that revitalizing scramble out of the fire.
There was a certain glow to his eyes and his armor seemed to shine brighter, the large gem set into his breast glittering in the light. Had he not been worried about Antonia, Dart would likely have been in a wonderful mood.

Toni blinked at that, staring at the other for a good minute or two. Carry her? What the ...? Wow, he really was worried. And ... that was kind of ... sweet.
"Uhm I ..." she started, then broke off and smiled. "If you really want to, I won't argue, but I can walk by myself," she pointed out, a bit of a teasing note in her voice. She might be a little slower than usual and sick from the smoke, but she was no weakling...

He laughed to cover the awkward shift as he dug forepaws into the ground. Aheh... Straightening up, the dragoon grinned at her, "Tough one, that's admirable. But," and he fixed her with a stern look, "if you need help, don't play the hero and keep silent. Wont' help anything if you just keel over from smoke inhalation." He fluttered his wings a little, made sure she understood, and then moved on.
Dart hated seeing people suffer... preferred to put himself between those he care for and the dangers they faced. If that meant carrying Toni so that she was able to recover from the smoke, then so be it. It wouldn't be a particularly disheartening task, either.
