He seemed a bit disappoitned that he wouldn't learn more. But the idea of a city under the ground was more than enought to get him to reveal his home. "Well I was crowned emperor a few years ago upon the death of my father. Our kingdom is deep underwater and protected by many spells of my ancestors. You can see the mark of our magic on my skin." He pointed to the blue tattoos on his arms and the marks on his face.

"So they are glyphs?" Illmaste questioned interested perked. His fingers itched to get some copy of Mana's markings in a photo, not drawn he could not drawn to study. "What do they mean? Are they all just protections?"

"Well, the ones on my face signify that I am the rightful heir to the throne. The ones on my arms were given to me once I had completed the family magic courses. They allow me to tap into my magic at a deeper level and father said I could even tap into the ancient's magic." He looked at his reflection in the sea, thinking of his father as he saw the marks across his face.

"Mmmmm. My mother had me learn magic but I never got the hang of it. My father knew it wouldn't work. Our blood line doesn't have the skills. What spells I do know are pretty simple and even then they rarely work." He laughed relaxed. "But some skills that I learned are pretty useful."

"My magic is very important, as I am blessed with the spell that gives air breather's the ability to stay underwater. So what skills have you learned?" He wondered what skills the air breathers needed to survive up here.

"Lets see...." Ilimaste paused, composing a short list of spells he could do, the larger one of spells he had tried and had blown up or just didn't work. "Detect spells mainly. I can detect poisions, magic, people, animals...I finally got the warding spell done...nothing else though. The rest just I can't get to work.."

"Well at least you are practicing. So what is your position in your clan?" In merfolk, everyone had a position based on either their birth or their profession. He wondered what the elf did as a job or what status he was in his race. Perhaps it was similar to the underwater folk.

"Position? I don't really have one anymore. For a while I helped my mother in her shop still she apprenticed me off. After that I finished that I spent a few years with my dads mercenary group. I left quite a while ago and mostly I just been trying to break ties." He grinned. “I like being on my own. It’s nice.”

"You are lucky then. When I return home I'm sure my advisors have a mountain of paperwork for me to deal with. But it is my duty as Emperor so I will do what it takes to serve my people. Do you have an Emperor or Empress?" He wondered how the royal system worked for the drow kingdom. Surely they had some sort of leader.

"A matron, we have a head matron who is a head of a house. It's complicated. I haven’t kept track of who is who since everything is changing so much there. I just keep track of who is who in the Blacks.” The drow smiled slightly. “In some ways I miss it..”
