Dahlia have a blank stare as he dove, sending a brown cloud billowing into the space between them. She blinked a few times, then broke into a fit of giggles seeing Vasu roll around like a colt in the spring grass.

”You roll… in the dirt?” It was an accusatory question, just a bit bewildered. She continued to giggle as she pictured the looks on Sequoyah and Xandir’s face if she came home covered in a fine sheen of dust.

Her giggles rang in his ears. It had the opposite effect that it should have. It only made him smile harder. His smile spread into his eyes and eyebrows. He threw his head to the side playfully. "Uhh..!" he pretended to be offended. "I'm hurt!" he then joined her with his own laughter.

"I, as you put it, roll in the dirt." he was grinning so hard his cheeks hurt. He didn't roll anymore, still half waiting for her acceptance. "It's not like anyone see's me...except you." He darted a caustious gaze about the plains, assuring that nobody else was around.

Dahlia gazed down at him, head cocked to the side, the rueful smile still plastered on her face. “Don’t you, ya know?” She rolled her shoulders and tapped the dirt with her front hoof, as if she was testing the temperature of lake water, “...get dirty?”

"One might get a litte dirt on their coat. I think it's worth it, and nothing a good shake can't help to rid. Or a soak in the nearest water source." He smirked before huffing at a bumble bee that floated to close.

He looked up at her beautiful face, seeing her expression as somewhat hesitant. With that, he flipped full force, kicking his legs as his back and neck rubbed at the dirt. He flopped to the side and then righted himself onto his knees again with a small shake of his mane.

Though she was still smiling, she looked unsure. She never really considered herself dainty or overly prissy, but some part of her cringed at the idea of being covered in the dirt.

However… the concept also had a certain thrill to it, almost like it was a scandalous affair. To get so dirty – the fine, brown pattern would show up on her coat, imagining the look on her fathers’ faces if she returned home having taking a mud bath. Well, she could always bathe first, but would she want to? Now she almost wanted to see how her parents would react.

Did it feel good? Invigorating? Disgusting?

Well, there was only one way to find out.

With a deciding whinny, the mare got down on her stomach and with just a moment’s hesitation, rolled over onto her back.

Vasu was delighted that the mare hadn't run off with a cackle yet. He watched her face with a casual smile as she pondered something in her mind.

He waited patiently, but burst out with a laugh of contentment as she whinnied to the ground. His eyebrows raised as high as they could as she flopped over to her back. He then grunted as he joined her, doing so to prevent himself from staring at the moment. But more so, the thrill of having someone join him in the dirt.

He never expected her to roll too. It was a bonus.

He righted himself carefully back to his belly, being sure not to clock her in the head with a lone hoof. He looked to her with glee in his eyes, before flopping over again.

One of the bee's hovered in the air, then flew off, finally fed up with the ruckus.

Dahlia gave a good, long roll… billowing up dust and debris until she could barely make up Vasu’s shape beside her. She felt the dirt grinding into her mane, making her eyes water and nose burn. But there was an odd sense of invigoration and freedom. She finally rolled back onto her belly, her mane falling around her in soiled, tangled heaps. She waited for the dust to settle to try and get eye contact with Vasu. Her expression was blank for a moment, until she, almost completely grey from dust, burst out in a hearty laugh. “I can’t believe I did that,” she gasped between breaths.

Vasu ducked as one of her hooves swept his way. It wasn't really close enough to hit him, but it made him chuckle to watch her wiggle. He kept an eye on her for a moment, then joined her, backside, in the dirt.

He felt an absence in the motion, she had stopped rolling. He righted himself once again, and smiled at the cloud the two of them had created. "Wow. I've never seen such a cloud of dirt, as the one we just made."

He waited to catch his breath, not quite as winded as he should be. He did after all, do this more often than perhaps he would admit. "I can't believe you did it either!" He laughed heartily, content in the after-moment. "I enjoyed it though! You flopping about with me in the dust!"

Dahlia’s grin didn’t fade as she made her way to her feet. She shook herself off a good two or three times, and while it did a good job of stirring up a lot of debris, it did little to shake the dirt out of her mane or coat. She gave up quickly and rolled her shoulders in defeat. “You’re a strange fellow,” she said good naturedly. “But I guess you know how to have fun.”

She looked at the position of the sun in the sky and only then did her smile fade slightly. “My parents are going to be worried if I’m not home soon,” she said, looking back towards Vasu. “Where’s the nearest watering hole so they don’t completely flip out?” she asked with a wink.

Vasu grinned from ear to ear, accepting her words as a compliment. He wouldn't forget it, since he hadn't heard anything close from any other before. He'd take what he could get. "Thank you." he said through his wide smile. "You, know how to have fun yourself." he assured her. "Who would of thought you'd ever join me in the dirt? I'm glad you did Dahlia."

He rose to his feet in a shuffle and a shake. "Alright." he looked about. "Let's get you cleaned up then. I don't want your parents to worry." A reminder that he too...had parents, ones he hadn't seen in far too long. He put the thought away till later.

"Well, then we should hurry little lady." he teased playfully, returning her wink with a wiggle of his eyebrows. "There's a stream nearby, and it's just deep enough for a quick wash." It barely touched his stomach after all, but with a bend of his knees, it was enough for a quick soak.

"This way." he nodded with his head to the side.

Dahlia gave a nod and another shake of her mane as she followed him towards the stream. "Thanks for sharing," she told him, giving him a quick, friendly nuzzle on the side of her neck... which preceded to make her sneeze as a little bit of dirt got up her nostrils.

He joined her and shook himself off. "Anytime Dahlia." ....and she touched him. Just as he was about to totally enjoy the simple touch, she sneezed all over him.

He jumped back. "Heeey!" he laughed, scrunching his nose up a little. He didn't care, but it was fun to pick. He bounded away from her, almost like a playful colt. He laughed again, his posture suggesting that she join him in the frolic.

The big goof, he bounded with a bumbling splish into the rivers stream. The cool water lapping at the dirt on his hooves. It didn't suprise him, but he forgot it was so close. His merriment made the splash seem part of his bound.

Dahlia's ears sunk. "Sorry..." she said a bit sheepishly, until she realized he was (mostly) playing. She shook out her mane and smiled, following him into the water. The cool water felt good on her dust-encrusted coat as she sank down to her belly, dipping her head under the surface to wet her mane.

He watched her and smiled as she flipped her mane with a smile. He didn't stop watching her even when she entered into the water. Wow. was his thought as he pondered at how beautiful she was, even when covered with the dust of a good roll.

Her hair was captivating as it uncloaked from beside her, streaming bits of hair in the rivers slow current. Vasu took a deep breath, and then turned to dip his own muzzle in the water, sinking most of his head in it's cold bite. Lifting his face, he had a ring where the rest of the dirt remained untouched.

At least the dirt was lose, and would wash off easily.

He began to thrash around as he covered the rest of himself in water. Together, the two of them were painting the river a dull grey as the dust clouded through.

It was hard to determine if had been a few minutes or a few hours since Dahlia and the stallion found the little stream, bu the sky began to darken as dusk settled over the land. Most if the loose dust has washed away, but Dahlia still looked impishly disheveled. She was lying comfortably on the bank of the steam, air-drying.

"I should go," she finally said, looking up in the shy. She didn't look eager to leave, but she had a concerned expression. "My dads will worry."
