"Ha! They're still bigger than you. What do you think you're going to do, gnaw their ankles and maybe they'll lie down so you can get at their throat? Weak or sick doesn't matter, they'll still kick, and it'll still break something."
"Trampled means dead, kid. No way you'd survive it, not for long anyway. You'd cough up your blood and die." God, this kid was thick! What was wrong with him?
"Uh, I think that's kind of the point of a pride - you rely on each other. And, y'know, feed each other's kids. If you're the desperate, go catch a rabbit or eat some bugs or something."

Zeki sighed as it seemed that he was only talking to a wall that didn't understand him. Then again, Al-ha saw it the same way unbenounced to him. He sighed and turned his shoulder, gasping he stood up.
"The Kudu are moving!" he whined and slumped down where he stood. There goes his chance for food as his belly mauled at him for food. It was gonna start eating at him if not. Zeki sighed and looked back at Al-ha.
"Well, there goes the herd," he spoke. "I'm not eating bugs and I haven't found a rabbit all morning. Besides, I would rather not be a burden on my family by having them hunt for me all the time, I would like to be able to fend for myself once in a while. Or at least learn to."
The juvenile got up and looked around.
"Well, you stopped me from hunting a kudu, they moved on. I guess I'll have to find something else..."

Oh, thank god! Al-Hattal relaxed visibly as the herd moved off. He couldn't deny that the months he'd had to take care of Hauzu'l had changed him some, as much as it made him grumble. Feeling responsible was so...so inconvenient.
"Kids aren't meant to fend for themselves," he pointed out. "Just...cool it and wait until you're older, huh?"

Zeki shrugged and looked at him.
"Fine... but I'm still gonna try to hunt anyways. How about I just won't hunt Kudu, just for your sake," he laughed and started to purr some. He was very confident in his abilities, being trained by his uncles in many areas in defending himself, not too much in attacking. But that was something he could do himself. Zeki was sitll hungry so food was going to wait a little longer. Another herd was coming shortly, what it was he had no idea.
"Didn't you have somewhere to go?"

"Stay away from the stuff with hooves, trust me. Except maybe klipspringers." Those were small. Some of them had horns, true, but...it beat kudu or anything else bigger.
"Yeah, yeah," he said gruffly, stretching and looking off in the direction he'd been heading.

"...So Zebra, Gazelle, Kudu.... basically almost everything but the Klipspringers?" he spoke rather childishly, not really interested in those jumping things. They tasted alright, but they were pretty hard to catch being small and quite fast things. He caught a Gazelle and an Antelope once, but they were infants. Not to mention he had to grab it and run before the herd chased after him.... "Alright, I'll just wait here for the next herd..."
Zeki watched him look around. He had a reason to be here and now he was holding him back.
"Perhaps you should go do what you have to do."

Yeah, well, whatever - he'd tried. With an annoyed grimace, he stood and wandered off. If the kid got himself killed, it wasn't going to be hisfault. It was going to be because of sheer stupidity.
No wonder he hated kids.
