It was a strange sight to witness, really, seeing one's foe acting so tenderly with their trainer... and yet, like a charmed snake, Sepia only watched the display in silence. No attempt was made to strike at Aeon's turned back; in fact, not even a muscle budged from her rigid little frame. Those two... what kind of bond did they share?

"... It's time to continue, Sep-- look out!!!" Mal reminded her, snapping the Eevee from her dazed trance in an instant... and the warning couldn't have come a moment too soon! Aeon was charging straight for her at full force-- but she, and her trainer "Face him head on! Return!"

Pink haze shimmered like a pale aura around her body as Sepia, with renewed fire in her red eyes, took off, racing off to meet the attack head on. What could only be described as a roar exploded out of her little chest as the two forces met... explosively.

It was a bold move for one so small, and a brave one... but certainly not without consequences, for the impact sent her skidding backwards. Head swimming, vision spinning, claws unable to get a firm hold against the backlash, she spilled over into the water with all the grace of a drowning kitten.

It was a shame she couldn't hear her trainer's cries below the surface.

Aeon was blown backwards by the explosive combination of power; skidding across the platform behind him, Aeon managed to stop just at the edge before he fell into the waters...his opponent was not as fortunate.
"AEON!" The Raichu was on his feet in an instant, looking around for the little eevee. Confused, he turned and cocked his head at Jen but paused at her expression.
"Aeon! Listen to me, dive underwater and bring the eevee to the surface! HURRY!"
Aeon nodded before bolting underneath the surface towards the tiny shadow flosting near the bottom of the pool. Reaching Sepia, the electric pokemon delicatly grabbed the tiny creature by the scruff of her neck; as Aeon was proceeding towards the surface, Jen smiled at the trainer across the field. "Even though this is a battle, no pokemon deserves to be left to fend for itself."
As she spoke, her Raichu broke the surface of the pool. Clamering onto a platform, he laided the eevee down before gently pressing a paw on the pokemon's chest to help release the water from her lungs.

Sepia was truly a lucky Pokemon that day, snatched up from the depths by Aeon without a moment to spare. It seemed as though the impact had knocked her senseless, with eyes closed and thin muscles utterly slack like some hopeless little ragdoll. Determination was a double edged sword in the end; as fiercely as she had fought, the damage to her own body was undeniable.

The sight of Aeon hauling what looked like a dead body out of the water was almost enough to leave Malice hysteric, but thankfully the Raichu's coaxing seemed to jumpstart airflow again (if not with a fair amount of coughs and wheezes). "... Veeeeeeee..." came the dull groan as Sepia cracked an eye open, flopping onto her belly to cough up a last mouthful of arena water.

That was enough for Malice; ignoring a warning yell from one of the judges, she swung down from the platform and hurried over, somehow managing to hop an island or two until she had reached the scene, crouched down, and gathered up the choking mass of limp fur.

"I... formally forfeit the match," she muttered, glancing down quietly at Aeon, then back to Jenn at the far end. "Thank you for the battle... and the aid, but I think we've reached our limit."

Swinging down from the platform like the other trainer had done, Jen dashed over and grabbed at Aeon just as the pokemon collasped from exhaustion. He was as delicate as a Pichu, sleeping away the pain caused by the fight.

Standing, Jen smiled at her fellow trainer. "It's alright, you are going to make an awesome trainer." Shifting Aeon so he was being held by one arm, she held out her hand to the young rookie. "C'mon, let's take these two to the Pokemon Center. They both deserve a night, long rest..."

"... A-ah.... I.... thank you." When it came to things like gratitude (sans the saving of her dear Eevee) and true conversation, Malice seemed to be... at a loss, more of less, floundering to find her voice amongst the raucous sea of applause. Tracing a finger down the curve of Sepia's wet back, she heard the Pokemon sighing softly. Yes... she would be alright. They all would be.

"I think... that would be wise," she added quietly, shifting her armful to free one hand and (though tentatively) return the shake. A half-hearted smile even managed to work at the corner of her lips, nodding. "It looks as though they're both exhausted... and I'm sure a busy place like this is no good for recovery."

And so it was that Malice ended her first battle in the grand stadium, quietly striding out with her opponent... who might just become a friend.
