Hey! That's some very nice info Mel. I'm gonna see if I can check out all those sites later.
Wow! That animal planet site also has 3D animated dragons. Cool!
I guess we all have our opinions and beliefs but, as much as I'd like to believe in Dragons, Vampires and other stuff like that, I can't bring myself to do so. Still, I like to keep an open mind nevertheless. 3nodding
Like you say, I haven't seen anything that either proves, or disproves the existence of dragons.

I'm one of those people who deeply and strongly believe in the existance of not just dragons but all mythical creatures. Like Mel had explained just because something can't be proven scientifically doesn't mean it hasn't or doesn't exist. Just look at the Giant squid. Once thought to live only in Greek mythology, it was discovered some years ago somewhere off the coast of Asia.

Science is one way of thinking and it always changes. Dinosaurs are thought of as massive reptiles that dominated the Earth millions of years ago, but now paleontologists are saying that they may have had feathers. Believe it or not the modern day bird is a descendant of those behemoths of long ago. Today nothing can be considered a fact unless there is cold, hard physical evidence which in my opinion is BS. Ghosts and spirits exist, but what physical evidence do we have to "prove" this? Obviously none, but we know they are around from eyewitness accounts and equipments that can detect differences in magnetic fields.

Back to dragons... Too many historic accounts exist for them to be just part of the imagination. Every story has a root of truth to them no matter what type it may be. Everything is possible whether it can be proven or not so open minds are what keeps these beliefs alive. Of course, no one will know for sure unless a dragon skeleton is miraculously discovered or one is found roaming the Earth. Either way dragons exist for me and they will always be real in my mind.

Exactly! Great post Egyptian Dragon.
My thread about Vampires says more or less the same thing.

These threads are MEANT to look into scientific possibilities really. It then helps us to understand the thinking behind these mythical creatures regardless of whether they do exist, have existed, don't exist or could exist.

As mentioned in an earlier post about them breathing fire...
Why would that not be possible? Crocodiles and alligators are descendants of dinosaurs and they can digest bone - so why not rocks of some kinds? I think there actually are some creatures that take nutrients from rocks (though not exactly eating them). Even pet rodents are given mineral and salt bricks to lick in order to get minerals.

Particular chemicals produce different gases, and some are flammable. If reptiles like crocodiles and alligators can digest things like bone, then their digestive systems are going to be pretty damn strong. Dragons can be considered to be a much larger and majestic version. Appearances aren't of any kind of consequence.

Yes, I agree with you both.

I'm curious btw, how many Gaia items are out there that have something to do with dragons? Does anyone know?

Nothing comes up on google with that spelling. It only asks me if I mean "amphitheatre". I always knew those types to be a sub-species of Wyvern. They tend to be serpentine with only wings for limbs.

We should probably try Wikipedia too. I'll do that when I can...

try seaching "here be Dragons" then go to the website. Besides, you spelled Amphetere wrong... Or check out the book, Dragonology. I have it. It's in there.

I spelt it as you spelt it. The Ology website says the spelling is amphithere, not amphetere. So I only spelt it wrong because you did! razz
I didn't know how it was spelt as I'd never heard that terminology before.

The book must have the spelling wrong then... sweatdrop

My favorite out of the three is dragons. I find there range of abilities and physical attribute interesting and fun to draw. ^^

Cool!

Btw, my avatar is an Elven Dragon. I think this means that an average elf drank some dragon blood and he became part dragon. What does everyone think of my theory? Could it work?

Magical breeding and mutations, FTW!

I was gonna post a link to a site that has evolving dragon sprites. I usually have a couple in my sig. But the site is down right now while the owner switches it to another server. I'll have to post it later, I guess. So cute!

Sorry. That's "for the win." It's one I use on the gaming sub-forums a lot, so I sort of assume that it's universal. My bad. sweatdrop

The page is back up, here. Visit at the top of the hour (and I do mean the top ) and you should see eggs. Click on one to steal it and start posting it places to make it evolve.

If you want to see what some of the fully-grown dragons look like, here's my scroll.
