I tried timeskipping today, here's how it works:
After you set your DS clock one day back and start the game, everything will be as it was before; i.e. the same flowers will be wilting, no new acorns on the ground, neighbours that were moving are still moving.
Now save and turn off and change your DS clock one day forward, this will trigger a "new day": new acorns, new wilting flowers, etc.
To prevent your flowers from dieing and your neighbours from moving I suggest you water the flowers/talk to the neighbours before you move forward in time again, as moving back will not alter the data.
Summing up:
- do all the stuff you'd normally do; save and turn off
- go back one day; start game, save and turn off
- go forward one day; do the stuff you'd normally do
This does not affect the things shops will sell! They'll still have the same items!
I did this twice this morning to get the final two items as I had run out of acorns. ^^;

They're under the trees with no fruits on it. You won't find any under the palm trees. Also, don't give Corntimer or whatever his name is rotten acorns, or you won't get a prize smile . I think I have the full set :O!

This is not how I am... I've been playing for over a year now, so I already have a whole mush room from last year. So all the items I got this year I sold... o.o I guess I should have saved them and given them out, but I didn't think I'd get my WiFi working so soon. sweatdrop Oh well. I'm handing out skeletons all this month, for Hallowe'en. 3nodding I have become C O M F O R T A B L Y N U M B ...

Yeah, I have the complete Mush set, too, from last year.
I don't play AC anymore so I didn't have a chance to partake in the festival this year.
