fourtysecondscarf Ceribri Dark Lord M Please don't make this an American hate thread, we're not all fat, uneducated people and aren't bad like our government. *An American speaking who likes Doctor Who as much as all of you.* I'm quite an American DW fan too..(we need more of us!) So much so that I've waited for Doctor Who on SciFi every week rather than go online. I'm a loyalist. rofl xd I would go ballistic if it was Americanized. That's all. ^^ I watch it off youtube because BBC and SciFi are campaining against me to not let me watch the episodes in the order I want.... What order do you watch them in? ..just wondering... At least this year SciFi decided to show the Christmas episode first and then "Smith & Jones" @Fantome: Yay!

Hmm...
If Doctor Who were an American show it'd certainly be different. He wouldn't be travelling around in a police telephone box, that's for certain; probably instead a spaceship that resembled the Enterprise from Star Trek.
It would probably lose the eccentricity that makes the show, in essence, what it is.
Also, it would have more sex and violence, Jack would not be gay, ect.
If Doctor Who were American, I might still like it (I am into some American sci-fi such as Star Trek and Firefly) but it would be a very different show (probably with a bigger budget and more special effects, but not necessarily better).

I'm an American Doctor Who fan, like these good people: Ceribri Dark Lord M Please don't make this an American hate thread, we're not all fat, uneducated people and aren't bad like our government. That's all. ^^ But this question reminds me of one of the important things that separate America from it's British father, including us driving on the wrong side of the road, and our stupid not-Metric system. (Anyone care for a bushel? Furlong, perhaps?) America, in general, seems to have a morbid fascination with violence (horror films are almost an instant hit in this country, the gorier the better, apparently) and yet we're very hush-hush about sex, sexuality...well...that is, compared to our love for blood. Now, I could be wrong, but from my perspective, Europe as a whole seems to be very sexuality-friendly, and more hush-hush about violence. I'd be hard-pressed to find even the smallest bits of blood in DW, but British euphemisms are crawling all over the place! Anyway, long story short: If DW was American, there would be more blood, and less euphemisms. And less David Tennant. *tear*.Edit: Oh yeah, and Jack would be not-omnisexual. That would be instant boo-ing.

I dunno about the sexuality vs bloodshed thing...why can't we just have a happy medium??
I remember reading an interview with Christopher Eccleston where he touches briefly on that topic..something to do with the movie he was in.. Jude, I think it was. 'Cause there's a graphic scene in it with him and Kate Winslet (graphic in terms of nudity..) and he talks about it. I'm certainly not one to go into details about it though. -_-;

I'm afraid not, Ceribri. You know what they say, "sex sells". It's an unfortunate truth, but perhaps that's how humans have always functioned. We seem to thrive on sex, blood, and drama.
I do have to admit, there are some seemingly random, sexual bits in Torchwood that make me raise my eyebrow. The perverted side of my brain thinks there's a reason why Jack is so attached to the Doctor's non-attached hand, other than just...friendship.
Ahem.
Excuse me as I bludgeon the idea out of my head.

Omg, sorry. I couldn't resist. <3
@MuraskiDoku: I keep hearing that everything in Torchwood that's shown in the US has been edited, as the really graphic and sweary parts. Is it true?

Ok, first of. That was a wig Paul was wearing. I know that because I saw a clip of him back when and it was short. (he and his brother were filming their trip into the U.S.) They have a way of making long hair look real.
Secondly, that was suppose to be America getting their hands on Dr. Who. They were trying to take over the Dr. Who thing, however it didn't go over well with the American audience. Don't know why. In fact it was my first real introduction into Dr. Who. I didn't watch it back when PBS showed it. Because of that the "American" Dr. Who television series never took off. To make things worst is the fact that the company had an 8 year contract ownership. Do the math. Yes. yes. At about the time the Brits got their hands BACK on the show is the time when the contract ended. And we now have Dr. Who back on the air. So, no more talk about an American Dr. Who. That's what happened last time.
Sex don't sell for me. I've watched the first episode of Bionic Woman. I still question as to WHY they has those two sex scenes that were completely unnecessary in carrying the story line. "Yes I had them turn you into a robotic soider that can hear a conversation across a crowded room and everything, but I did it cause I love you and didn't want to lose you." "Oh, ok, lets have sex then." eek

Like "hard-on". I didn't know "hard-on" was a swear. I don't know if they cut out the graphic parts, but they didn't have any qualms about showing the guy in the act of masturbating (though no parts were shown). It still grossed me out, regardless.

Ugh. Yeah.. I sorta got that impression too...... Of course, with Torchwood, you're going to die, so why not snog? xp While you're on top of a guy in a morgue cabinet.
And they might have shortened the graphic parts, but we're only up to episode 5 here.. the security guy scene was definitely shortened from what I remember of it online. It was so gross. Swearing, the really big words, are cut out, but still... at least I don't have to deal with Owen spouting the F-bomb every two minutes. Gwen's got quite a mouth, too. o_0
Jack just likes the euphemisms. And everyone else. Which are ten times better an option than swearing...... rolleyes

fourtysecondscarf Heh....IF it had been made by america, the show would have been cancelled in 1959 Wow, canceled 4 years before it even debuted? That's pretty bad. lol And I agree, I wouldn't want a non-UK Who!

BUT I DUN WANNA!!!11!!!!!!!1!!1 gonk
*runs away* Same with me. I'd hate to imagine all the episodes American style. Doctor Who is just pure British. Sorry folks! But it dosen't mean it's only available for the British, Americans like it to, but it making the shows should be left to the current Director.

Hard-on's a curse word? xDI just looked it up in a English Slang Dictionary. *blushes* You do not want to know. And believe me. It is not just a curse word. Lets just say, it's equivalent to the "F" word and leave it at that.

I think it would stink terribly, i can just imagine: the doctor has a child with a earthling out of nowhere, and somehow the child has telekinesis, telepathy, and can teleport through time and space. The american k-9 is called k2000 and has super jump legs and can fly. The tardis can also turn shoot lazers,or should i say the "timebooth" as they rename it,would also have invisibility features. and finally, ancient civilizations say modern things, for example, they meet george washington and in the series he says "that kid is as fast as a ferrari"
