"Oh dear, I'm not sure I could survive being alone. I might go wander off and not be able to find my way home," His expression became forlorn, "This old bean is just so forgetful."
"Far from putting up with your presence, I would consider it a pleasure," He responded easily, moving to join her and match her stride. It had been a long while since he'd been able to have a decent conversation with anyone but his own kin, and he couldn't help but enjoy it. Afterall, who wouldn't enjoy the company of a mare? Let alone someone as articulate and genuinely kind as this one? Marina hadn't been like this...
His ears flicked back in distaste at the continuation of the painful topic, it wasn't something he really discussed with anyone, esecially strangers...but he really hadn't been able to talk about the subject to anyone, family most of all. Maybe if he talked to someone else about it just this once...but... "It was just a foolish affair that occured when I was younger; it isn't terribly important. I was barely out of colthood, it's natural to make mistakes." He explained as vaguely as he could.
"Oh?" He cant his head in curiosity at her, "My dear, flattery may only get you so far," He straightened with false bravado, "I am beyond flattery, try the old stallion down the lane, I hear he enjoys it," He grinned, just to make sure she knew he was kidding. "How big is your family, then?" He questioned, curious.

'Well then, I absolutely must go with you, if only so that I can help you home after we finish our walk..' Adrienne paused and then giggled as something occurred to her.
'Of course, if you really are that forgetful, we have a problem, because I don't know where your home is either! You'd just have to come home with me.' she suggested with a cheeky wink. Adrienne understood a topic change when she heard one, noticing his body language and decided to leave well alone. Though her curiosity was still piqued because she was starting to like Kale, and wanted to know more about him.
'Oh, but I like flattering you. That old stallion is a bit too crotchety for my liking.' she grinned back at Kale before replying.
'Big? I am one of 7 siblings, I know that two of my sisters have had a family, and there have been children from their children. And more children. I think my mother is a..' she wrinkled her brow as she tried to work out how many 'greats' it was. 'She is a great-great grandmother.'

"How very kind of you, it's so rare to find yound ones like you who are so helpful," He rasped, drooping a bit in posture and slowing as if his bones ached. This acting was surprisingly fun, maybe he should do it more sometime..
"Oh, this dottering old fellow couldn't possibly impose so much on a pretty young lady such as yourself; what would your family say if you brought home a nice old pet stallion? Your mama might not let you keep me." He grinned at her, wondering how she would reply to that.
He suddenly nodded, grave and serious, "Then I shall have a talk with that old fellow, perhaps I'll get him to change his ways." And abruptly discarded the serious act.
"Seven?" White eyebrows lifted in surprise and he whistled softly, "Amazing, I have never known anyone a part of such a family, I suppose reunions are quite an experience?"

Adrienne laughed out loud at Kale, at his play-acting, pleased that he was joking around with her as much as she was with him. She shook her mane out, giggling and gave him wide smile.
'Honestly? My mother would jump for positive joy if I brought home a stallion, she wants me to be in the family way and partnered up as soon as maybe I think.' she calmed herself a little, but her eyes still showed mirth as she looked at Kale. 'My mother would be all sweetness to you, showering you with friendly affection in the hopes that you would be secured.'
Adrienne nodded; 'Seven. I tend to feel like the odd one out when I think of it really, my fertile sisters putting me to shame. But reunions? No, I tend to only see one of my siblings very much, but I hope to bump into Kitara or Sierra and hope that they point me in the direction of where I might find my nieces and nephews...' she explained.
'Sooo..' she said, elongating the word, as she thought to change the subject. Talking about family made her wistful sometimes, especially when she was accompanied by an attractive stallion. 'Where did you want to walk to? The Village, the Lake?' she suggested, not knowing where he was familiar with in this area.

"Ahh," Rumbled the black stallion in understanding, bobbing his head once, "I'm sure she's just trying to help you find happiness; her own version of it and what she thinks is best, but she's just trying to be helpful," He chuckled, "You don't like her brand of helpfulness, I assume?"
His brows knitted togehter and his expression became pondering, "Sweetness and affection is a very tempting offer, though," His green eyes sparkled with amusement and mirth, "I just might follow you home anyway." He grinned to show he wasn't serious--mostly. He'd been without honest non-familial affection for a great deal of time. To be honest, he wouldn't mind a bit of it, but he wasn't about to be so shameless as to active go in hunt for it and follow this dear mare to her home.
He shook his head, still a bit surprised at how large her family was, "I have a half-brother, but I haven't seen him or our parents for several years. It's hard to imagine what a large family such as yours is like." He canted his head toward her, chuffing softly, thinking.
Black ears flicked toward her and he rolled his shoulder in his best imitation of a shrug, "I have no preference to be completely honest, do you?" He smiled, vaguely sensing that this discussion might be a long one, as if neither of them had any particular desire to go any one place...it would probably take a while to come to an agreement.

'Oh I appreciate that she's trying to help me, but it doesn't help me if you see what I mean?' Adrienne wrinkled her nose and chuckled, positive that it didn't sound too clear.
'What I mean is that despite her intentions, I feel a little like there is something wrong with me because I haven't been able to find that special someone to settle down with and raise a family.' she let out a little huff.
'Oh?' she said, her head canted to one side, looking at him as they slowly walked. 'Well, like I said, my mother would give you friendly affection,' Adrienne gave Kale a cheeky wink. She'd happily give him affection as well, if she thought at all if he would appreciate such from him.
'No? That's a shame. And well, I don't know any different, always had a big family, I would find it hard to imagine not having a large family.' she smiled a little at his latter comment.
'I'll just pick then? The Lake is always nice, I like to watch the waterbirds fly over the water.'

"I see what you mean," He responded, nodding an affirmative, "You don't need her help or want it and her meddling is only making your every attempt at somehow pleasing her and yourself too stressful and eventually your attempt becomes a failure because of that stress." He snorted, "It seems to me like an endless cycle which can only be stopped if either you or her decide it."
He smiled wanely and shook his head, "Please believe me when I say that taking your time finding a person, rather than just settling down with the first soquili that you find attractive and kind who agrees to it," He gritted his teeth at the memories and continued, "Is a much smarter move. When it really comes down to it, would you rather be happy right this minute for that minute? Or would you rather be happy for the rest of your life, knowing you had found the person you would always be with?" He paused, mulling over what wisdom he had been spouting without regard to whether or not she had even asked, "My apologies, I went about rambling and meddling into your problems; I didn't mean to."
He chuckled soft and shook his head, green eyes looking at her, "I'm afraid I would welcome any affection at all at this point, I have been lacking for several years." He sighed wistfully and winked at her to show he was only playing.
A shrug rolled over his shoulders, "I don't know any different," he answered, smiling, "I would find it simply amazing to have a large family; how would you remember everyone? Their names, even?"
"The Lake, hmm," His braided tail swished as he pretended to consider it for a long moment, "I think the Lake would be quite nice."

'Actually I think it might only end for my mother when I've found a mate.' Adrienne replied with a wry look.
'For me..well I am sort of coming to the conclusion that it might take me a while to find that someone, but I always felt that I'd know when I did.' she gave Kale a broad smile. It would also have to be someone who could see a hint.. she thought to herself. It was plain that she found the stallion attractive, which whilst not meaning anything in the long wrong as yet, meant she wanted to get to know him, and see him again after they eventually parted ways today.
'You don't believe in love at first sight then?' she asked. She wasn't sure she believed in it either, but she believed in attraction. 'Oh no, you can meddle. I really don't mind you meddling in my problems at all.' she said hurriedly, but wished he wouldn't joke about welcoming affection. She would happily bestow it, and if they continued to get on well, she hoped that she would be able to.
'Umm, well I don't know all their names yet, so that helps with that problem.' Adrienne chuckled. 'I know my immediate family, and I vaguely recall some of my sister's children's names, but that's about it. I really have yet to meet absolutely everyone.' She nodded, her long white locks bobbing as she did so, before turning a little in direction so that they were moving towards where the Lake was.

"Then I'm afraid you will have to bear with it until you find them," He answered, an apologetic smile flashing over his features.
"That would be a logical solution, and optimistic in fact," He answered carefully, bobbing his head in agreement. He hadn't ever really thought about finding someone other than Marina, she had always been the one. His green eyes flicked to Adrienne idly, 'But if I had any sort of ideal for a mare other than Marina...well, Adrienne would probably exceed that in many ways. But then again, I am just an old bean who's been without that sort of affection for ages. Whatever I may feel, or begin to, would probably be lost in the age-gap at least, if not in a simple lack of attraction on the other side. He allowed himself a near-silent sigh. Too much to worry about right now, he'd just met the poor girl.
"Oh, I'm sure such a thing exists, it's been the focus of so many tragic tales how could it not exist?" He sighed, "But I doubt that most will ever encounter it, and I'd rather not feel it myself, to be honest." I don't need any more disasters of that sort.
He quirked a white brow at her, "Are you sure? Because giving me free rein of that sort could prove troublesome over time." He grinned cheekily, "I may butt my head into issues I do not belong."
"With such a large family, I'm afraid I wouldn't be surprised. Though I mean no offense to you," He added a bit hurriedly, mentally kicking himself, "Unless my sons have found loves and have had children of their own, I only know of my daughter and her family." He commented, attempting to focus her on a different aspect of the subject as he turned to follow her directions.

'I guess I will, won't I?' Adrienne flashed Kale a look, wishing that they'd known each for longer, because then her attraction to him might make sense! She would just have to stay with him as long as possible this occasion and seek him out again soon as maybe.
Maybe if she was a mind-reader, and knew his current thoughts it might have helped her, then maybe she would have said something. But he was older than her, and Kale might simply dismiss it as a crush, or because of what she said about her mother, think that she was just settling to get Ardia off her back. Neither was true; she'd not yet met a stallion who she'd wanted to know beyond an intial meeting.
'No? What you want to feel then?' she inquired, before nodding again. 'Kale, I don't think I've met anyone so far in my life that I would want to meddle in my affairs more.' she tried to sound a little pointed, giving him an encouraging smile.
Adrienne put on a silly expression, making her eyes cross a little, before dissolving into giggles at how funny she might look. 'I know, you're calling me a ditz with no memory, I can take it.' she said, giving him a nudge with her side as she walked, drifting towards him and moving back away again after she'd touched him.
'How many grand children do you have?' Adrienne didn't care that he was a grandfather; Kale was handsome, and sweet, and she felt comfortable talking about anything with him.

Poor Kale was blissfully ignorant of her look, though if one were to be completely honest, he wasn't actively looking for any such indications she was interested in him in friendship or even something that could become more.
He chuckled and looked at her with an arched brow, "You want me to speak poetry, then? Because I'm afraid the best way to describe what I would like to feel would be similar to reciting poetry." He paused, a bit taken aback by her words, before reminding himself that she meant nothing terribly special, perhaps she was viewing him as a source of good advice?
At her silly expression he couldn't help a laugh from escaping, "I would never call a lovely mare like you 'a ditz with no memory'" He answered genuinely, hoping his smile was apologetic enough. His smile widened at the nudge, appreciative of her playfulness.
"Two boys," He answered, grinning, "Two boys who have become quite a bit like their father, which irks Azariel to no end." He chuckled, remembering the times when he'd visited the family, "I suppose they're adults by now, though." He canted his head upward, as if the trees above would help him remember something, "I haven't visited very often as of late; Azariel and her mate don't need me constantly hovering around." He shrugged, feeling that saying more would either be doting or self-depressing.

'Poetry? If that is how it must come out, then that is how it must come out. Please, I really want to know what you wish to feel.' Adrienne pressed carefully. She wanted to know, maybe it would help her get to know him better, but she also didn't want him to feel that she was prying too much. It was a fine line.
'Really?' she smiled sweetly at his words, her ears pricked towards him, giving her attention to Kale completely..well nearly all, she was using just enough so as not to stumble as they walked. Lovely mare. She would treasure those words. 'And what would you call me then sir?' she said, gently teasing again.
'I bet she would like a visit from you..' Adrienne said, after all, she knew how it was not to see ones father for a while.
'I mean, I've just met you, and I can't see myself getting tired of your company for a long time yet. So I can't see that they would mind your being around.'

He chuckled, surprised and a bit embarrassed at her insistence, "If you insist, then I am afraid I must obey," He winked at her before sighing softly, braided tail twitching as he tried to gather up his thoughts for such an endeavor. He hadn't planned on her encouraging him further, "...I suppose--and here I'm just speaking of my ideals, so they'll be horribly optimistic--I'd like to feel at home with that person; like whenever I saw them or spoke with them, or did anything with them, that I was--that we both felt--that this was the best place to be, anywhere else wouldn't be as perfect unless that other was there." He rolled his shoulders, "I wouldn't expect--or even want--whatever is there to be love at first; I'd like it to be something that grew over time and in such a way that I or even the both of us, may not even realize it." He smiled sheepishly at his words, but continued, "It's difficult to say what else I would like. Someone to be with me forever? I can't possibly ask that of anyone; but I'd hope that they'd stay with me for at least a little while." He remained silent for a moment afterward, mulling over what he had just said.
"Ahh, and returning to our previous conversation," He smiled, attempting to change the subject should she have found his words too uncomfortable to continue a conversation with, "Really. I wouldn't compliment someone without due cause."
"Hmm..." He drew out the sound, canting his head as if to look thoughtful, "Well, for starters, I would call you a bright, intelligent young mare who has a heart of gold for spending so much time with old folks like me." He grinned, showing that he was joking; at least about the 'old folks' bit, though 'heart of gold' certainly applied to her.
"Perhaps..." He conceded, nodding, "It would be fun to go see them and tease her," He grinned mischieviously, "She's terribly fun to tease." He chuckled, arching a brow, "You flatter me, I'm not that fun to be around, I'm sure."

She liked the sound of that, that if she insisted he would have to comply. She gave a cheeky grin at that, which faded into a quiet expression as she listened to Kale's words.
'As though there was a special light around you when you were with that someone? It would make even the mundane shine.' Adrienne fell quiet, and when she did speak again her words came tight with emotion. 'A forever love..I think I want that for myself as well.'
Again she'd fallen quiet, lost in her own thoughts for a few moments until she was brought out of them by Kale's joking remarks. 'Yes I know I am.' she said in all seriousness before laughing.
'Kale you are anything but old! Witty and handsome, but not old.' she complimented. Adrienne shook her mane, wondering how on earth she would be able to get through to this stallion that yes, he was fun to be around, she enjoyed his company, and would very much like to see him again?
'It would only be flattery if it were untrue. I have enjoyed meeting you, slowly getting to know you, and I think with dread on when we will eventually have to part. I would see you again Kale, please believe me.' she moved closer, nudged his neck with her nose and edged away again, a smile on her face.

The black stallion chuckled, "You have such a good grasp on what I'm trying to explain. Perhaps I should have you speak for me instead?"
"I wish you the best of luck in that venture, Adrienne." He answered honestly, giving her a kind smile. Such a kind young mare deserved a worthy young stallion as her own. He was of course too old to be of any interest to her in that respect, but he could certainly resign himself to sort of fatherly friend? If she wished for it of course.
He laughed and shook his head, braids smacking against his neck lightly, "You say that now, but just wait until winter comes. I will be complaining endlessly about how the cold hurts my bones and you shall find yourself fed up with me." He smiled, knowing that except on the worst of days he hardly felt any pain at all. He moved around too much for his body to be so frail.
He turned his head toward her, a bit surprised by her words and tone. His expression dropped into the easy smile he had accustomed himself to using while in her presence, "You are too kind, Adrienne," He answered, shaking his head and chuckling softly, "I can only say that I feel the same as you about our meeting; you have a knack for finding my words and expressing them before I have a chance. Are you some sort of mind reader, dear?" He squinted his gaze and a suspicious look before allowing it to dissolve again into a smile, "If you would be willing to see someone such as myself more than once then how could I refuse? I would truly enjoy your company anytime." He bobbed his head once, smiling in answer to her own.
