Before Flerida could respond, Bijin cut in with the small statue. She blinked at the younger Fable's energy but chuckled in amusement. She was slowly becoming relaxed and in doing so was more willing to lower her guard. She preferred open markets and stalls beneath the blue skies or under the canopy of trees but this shop wasn't so bad.

"That's very pretty. Although what's an okaa-san? I'm not familiar with that word." she explained. Maybe it was a word that referred to a family member.

"Oh! Okaa-san is mother in Japanese. That is were I am from. I still use japanese words when I talk." The small fable smiled and continued to search around the store. He liked the pretty little stones that they had. Each was supposed to grant some sort of protection from something according to each card that came with them. Then he started smelling the incense.

Flerida wondered where she was from and how was it that Bijin knew his origins, but she didn't despite being the older one? This did not sit well with Flerida, "Bijin, how do you know you're Japanese?" she asked.

"hmm? Oh, well, the little item that okaa-san I was drawn to was an anicent form of Japanese money." He pulled out the little necklace he wore under his shirt. On the thing leather strap was an odd shaped coin with a hole through the middle and asian writing on it. "I already spoke Japanese, as did okaa-san, so she assumed that is where I came from. She says you can learn a lot about yourself just by looking at yourself from time to time."

Flerida thought about the item that summoned her to Hameln, it had been a paperweight, a -what did Huni call it?- Calamansi one. She made a note to ask Huni about this when she got home from the maul. "Where do you think I come from? I don't think wings and a feather growing from your head is a trait most people have." She tried not to sound surly, but it wouldn't be Flerida if she weren't uptight.

"Gee, I don't know. In Japan there are the Tangu warriors who are bird like but you don't look like a warrior to me. I know! Lets go to the book store here in the mall. Maybe they have a book of creatures we can look in." He paid for a few pretty stones which he would add to his little rock garden back at the house then lead her to the bookstore. It was large but filled with all sorts of books. "Where should we start? We could look in animal books or mythology books. We need to figure out what country you are from, that way we can go look in books about that country."

Flerida found this suggestion sound, books did contain a wealth of information. And while she wasn't the best reader, she was literate and would be able to manage a book or two given enough time. "Mythology? Why mythology? Shouldn't we look for historical records?"

Though it would be best that she asked Huni herself when they got back. Still, a trip to the bookstore would be nice. At least Riddy'll be able to get something to amuse herself in between chores.

"Well, in the Japanese tradition, anyone who shares physical features with an animal is usually some sort of mystical spirit. So I assume that is true in other places as well." The little boy put his finger to his cheek and began to think. He was a bright little one and wanted to help his new friend Riddy-sama find out more about herself. After all, Kin-sempai had been that way and he often wondered about his origins.

"Okaa-san said that I was attracted to a coin, something that meant something to me. What attracted you to your guardian? Maybe we can use that to narrow it down! You might have an easier time than me. Japan has more myths and stories that we have people." He giggled a bit and started off for the mythology section of the store, ignoring the strange looks he got as he walked with a bird woman.

Flerida nodded slowly, what Bijin said did make sense. Blushing a little at the curious glances the people made at them, Flerida followed after the boy. "Maybe if we find what place the word calamansi comes from it might give some clues?" She sounded unsure of herself, this wasn't as easy or as simple as cleaning closets and making beds. She had to admit it was a little exciting to be going on an adventure, albeit one that was very close to home. "I just remember walking through a thick haze before noticing this beacon which turned out to be a calamansi paperweight." She added.

"Hmmm....calamansi. Lets see." Little Bijin began to scan through many books until he found one about mythical birds. There, he found the word "Ibong Adarna" in relation to calamansi. "Ne, Riddy-san, does this word mean anything to you? It says its a mythical Fillipino bird that has a beautiful singing voice, can heal the sick, and can turn people into stone." He showed her the page on the book.

Flerida took the book into her slender hands and as she read, her feathers seemed to ruffle a bit in discomfort. "So I'm Filipino?" her brows furrowed, she'd have to ask Huni more about that. Maybe her guardian would know about such matters. "Bijin, would you happen to have enough money for this book? I didn't think to bring any but I'm sure Huni will have some at home. I'll pay you when I see you again." She promised.

It was also her way of telling the younger Fable that she'd like to get to know him more. Ever the shy and uptight girl, Riddy didn't quite know how to bring herself to admitting her real feelings.

"Oh sure Riddy-san! I can buy it for you! And you don't have to pay me back, it can be a gift becase you are my new friend! And it is neat that you are Filipino!" He took her hand and dragged her over to a small globe that was in the children's section. He pointed to the Phillipine Islands on it then moved his finger north to another large island chain. "These are the Phillipines and if we move north you see these large islands here. They are Japan; my home. Our homes are close together! They are both islands and have volcanoes!"

He smiled brightly at the girl, hoping it would lift her spirits a bit. Maybe my okaa-san has some books about those islands too! We can meet sometime and look through them."

Flerida was about to protest but she couldn't bring herself to deny Bijin. Not with those eyes and that demeanor of his. "That sounds like a wonderful idea." She wondered to herself what she could do in return for her new found friend. She remembered how the little boy enjoyed looking at the pretty stones and thought of her tears. She'd find something that looked interesting and pretty and maybe turn that into stone. It sounded like a plan.

"Yay! I like making new friends!" Suddenly his tummy gave a rumble. He blushed a little and put a hand on his stomach. "I think my tummy is saying its time to eat. Would you like to eat at the food court with me Riddy? Or I can show you the way home and eat when I get back home. I don't mind." He smiled brightly at her.

Flerida smiled warmly at the younger Fable as she nodded "I'm not really hungry and I don't think this place has the kind of food I eat." She didn't think the younger Fable would relish knowing she ate insects, sometimes while they were still flying in the air. "But I'll be more than happy to accompany you to buy the food to bring home."
