Mmm. Noodles.

I liked the episode, not completely happy with it though.

I did like the Maiko part. Zuko is all serious and worried, and she is like whatever. "Stop worrying." Tru dat. 3nodding

What the crap was Yue doing there?! I mean is it like a rule that she has to be in each season at least once or something? (the swamp) Idk, really really random.

Maybe she was there to try to relieve the Aangst.

The episode was kind of sad. Aang was like a mini Zuko for most of the episode.
Turtle ducks are so cute!!
Man Azula deserves a shot to the face.
It was pretty cool to see Yue as the moon spirit again.

I think that I have to agree with Seira on this, I was slightly disappointed. It was just a lot of stuff they had to cram into such a small amount of time. However they also used up time with completely whacked out things like Yue and Roku popping up out of no where! Because of that it made things feel rushed- or at least it was to me. Plus, compared to the wait we had to go through, it was just too short! When the credits started to play all I could do was stare blankly at the screen. “That was it?” a friend of mine asked. It was the same question I had. We waited nearly ten months for a half hour of pleasure, and then we’re back to waiting. Like I said, I was disappointed.

That’s not saying that I didn’t like “The Awakening”. I loved Zuko going back and feeding the turtleducks, he hasn’t been back to the Fire Nation very long, yet he goes down to the pond to do something that both him and his mother used to do together. The sentiment was sweet. Then the fighting; though the story board artists might complain about having to create multiple fight scenes, they very rarely disappoint. Toph’s and Katara’s bending when they were fighting the Fire Nation ship was amazing, I remember turning to my friend and asking in astonishment, “When did they have time to learn this?”, and Mae Whitman’s acting when Katara has her very impromptu confrontation with her father was superb, the emotion she was able to pull into Katara was nearly enough to block the fact that the scene was so incredibly random. And of course, who didn’t love Azula in her sleep wear chic?

So now we’re back to waiting, and quite frankly I can’t! Zuko going out and hiring the hit man, not to mention who the guy is, to take down Aang nearly blew me away. I mean, seriously, the guy shoots lightening, fire, whatever it is, out of a tattoo on his forehead- that’s just not right (granted it’s not really any different from regular fire bending, but still…). Plus Zuko’s confrontation with Iroh and the gang going to school! Which leads to my new favorite quote: “I’ve already got a picture of Ozai! And here’s one I made out of noodles!” Oh how proud Ozai would be to know that the children of the Fire Nation are spending their arts and crafts time making pictures of his likeness out of noodles, it’s what every Fire Lord strives for I’m sure.

rofl omg, that last part is soooo funny! Nicely put, ~MechMech~! lol!

your sig makes me laugh...firelords striving for noodle portraits...lmao

Mm, I agree, on both points.

I was veeery pleased with the snippet of Maiko. Not only because I support that ship, either. It was just nice to see the balancing effect they had on each other. I've always thought Mai would be the calm to Zuko's passion, and that Zuko would make Mai so much happier. It was just nice to see. ^^

Yue was very random. I was like, "...What the ********?" I'm hoping that somehow she'll appear and confront Sokka and make him move the ******** ON. Either that or she'll appear and help the Gaang defeat the armies, or something. What I'm saying is I don't want her to just appear once in this season, she needs to appear more, or else this episode is just strange.

An intensely brief version of my thoughts on the Book 3 premier follows, as taken from my LiveJournal page:

*screamsfoamsfaints*

AVATAR FOR THE WIN DIPSNAIYOSJBYU!!!

Where in the world shall I start with this episode? I know!

Azula.

My hero! She is made of ownage, I swear. She only appeared a few times during the entire episode and still rocked it. She's still the awesome manipulative lying princess we know and worship, which makes it even better that she's already screwed Zuko up two times over, and not even 15 minutes into the episode. I love her hair down, love love love it, because she looks every bit of 15 as she is.

How the hell did she get so SMART?

I bet she learned it from her uber-sexy, Hakoda-look-alike of a dad named Ozai. *drools* This is why I marry cartoon characters. THIS IS WHY! *faints( I love it that he looks so young, and sweet, and kind, and innocent, because it trips you up. You expect him to be this hard, fearful character, and then he looks like the sweetest guy on Earth. I'd marry him! Bye-bye Ursa! Fire Nation Royalty = Looks Can Be Deceiving

And goodness, he looks like his kids! They inherited his eyes, to be sure.

Hakoda... he's such a great father! Katara went off on him, with good reason but mostly because she was hurt that Aang had left her the Gaang, and he took it and just held her, reassured her that everything was going to be alright. Aww...!!! I heart father-daughter moments.

LOLZ @ Katara spazzing out on him when he interrupted Her Moment With Aang. Typical teen girl, not wanting to have her dad around while she's with her man. Speaking of which...

...did the Maiko moment piss anyone else off? I felt like I had missed so much, even though I haven't caught an episode late since The Cave of Two Lovers. I understand that taking the time to highlight on their relationship for more than two minutes isn't ideal, but come on. Maiko fans, I'm sure despite their Foaming Mouth Guy reactions to the kiss (like, WHOA), are a bit upset about it, too. Kind of short-changed, I believe.

The Roku-Yue-Aang scene? Cheesy as cheesy can possibly be. My goodness. It was a good scene, no doubt, but the way they appeared and the animation... Satan killed a kitten when it all happened. DX

And Aang, the spirits help that child. I loved him during this episode (though as messed up as it is, he wasn't my favorite). I feel the need to point out to myself that it was only a season premier- to tie up loose ends a bit from the last finale and introduce a new storyline, so I'm not worried about it. His character, however, didn't take over, as it should have. Other characters and events kind of dominated (like the short-but-sweet battle scene between the two ships), where he was spotlighted, but not really there.

Like a secondary character, sadly.

All in all, I cannot wait for the next episode? Zuko hiring the laser-shooting guy? Aang in school? Bound to be amazing!

Dunno, I don't think Maiko fans are the least bit disappointed. You just need to know what is going on I suppose. Heck, if I didn't read the comic I would be a little lost myself. I agree they should have filled everyone in like they did with Sokka and the Earth King. Either way, it was a sweet moment that had some hilarity in it.

Azula made me want to be a lesbian xd I just LOVED her on this. Usually bad guys have more pride than brains, but not Azula! She thought things through. She say the truth in Zuko's eyes. You can't fool her. She knew the avatar had a big chance of being alive and so She decided to take only the credit she knows is safe: The defeat of BSS. That way she has all the glory she needs. And that new hairstyle makes her even hotter. XD

And toph was just awesome. She was like mixing daredevil, Magneto, and a kick-a** earthbender. First off the super hearing. If it weren't for her the fire nation would have attacked them by surprise. Then the metal bending! Truly the best earthbender of the world. biggrin She just kick a**. And she was acting so sweetly!

Awsomely great episode! I knew Azula would make sure she doesn't get blame for Aang's return...heh, serves you right Zuko for coming back to the dark side.

Speaking of which, w00t to the image of Firelord Ozai. I would have though of him as someone older, but he didn't. I'd say he's around his mid thirties the most....

Was I the only one disappointed?
Yeah, it was a good episode but I expected something a little more... a little less filler-y.

Ozai's face was disappointing I thought, I expected him to be a little... scarier.
Azula totally hawt, by the way. She looked mighty fine with her hair down in her robe thing.

Is it just me, or was Toph overly affectionate?

Rag-tag team of friends from around the Earth Kingdom! WOO! I predict pretty-boy Haru will make a reappearance, unfortunately, and we all know Teo's coming back. Meng! I want Meng! AND FOAMY! D< (Though, how he could be used in battle is a mystery to me...) AND THE CABBAGE MAN!!! Though, does he count as a 'friend'? He kinda hates the Gaang.

Hahhh, Earth King. That was cute.

Aang is Zuko, aaaaaaaaaaah!!! No, seriously, what the ********. "I need to restore my honour"?! THAT'S A ZUKO LINE.

Toph metal bending during the battle... Haaaaa... Toph kicks so much a**... I forgot. ^^

That hooky thing is quite clever. Is it strange that whenever I see a clever tool being used by the Fire Nation I immediately think, "Oh, they got that from Teo's dad"?

The serpent strikes again! xD I burst out laughing when it popped up. "Why does the universe always disagree with me?" "You make it too easy!" Hehehe...

Aaaaah, Azula is an evil genius... I LOVE IT. When I first heard that she gave the credit to Zuko for Aang's death, I was like, "...Is she actually being nice?" My first thought was, "She's trying to buddy up with him, get him to trust her..." And then when he went and woke her up and she explained it, I was like, "Ahhh... I see... WOW, you are a cold hard b***h and it's AMAZING."

(Just commenting on the parts in the quote. Don't worry, no attacking here. ^_^)
FINALLY! I was so happy to watch this episode. True I didn't think it was a great episode but hey, everything needed to be setup after several weeks have passed.

Mwahahahahahahahahahahahaha *begs for this to lead to Taang*
And she was awesome when she was using her metal bending. That's deifnitely going to come in handy later on.

Re: Hooky thing
Actually I think they had that invention already. Didn't the tanks from that episode already have them? (Then again, you could be right and the invention came from Teo's dad then they attached the hooks to the tanks)

I thought that was great what they did with the Earth King. xd He's out of the way and he's going to have the time of his life exploring.

Azula.... okay, I hate her, but in that one scene where Zuko confronts her, I thought, "WOW!" And yes, she is evil. She knows Zuko knows something and told it was him who killed the Avatar. Aang comes back and all the blame goes to him.

Foamy could be used to create cover for everyone. Y'know, instead of a mist cloud, Foamy could create a foam cloud.

And yes, I laughed when Sokka said the universe line. xd "Thank you the Universe."

I missed it last night (and will pretty much miss it every Friday Night, I have Anime Club when it's on), but I caught it this morning at noon. I squealed. Like, a lot more than I probably should have. XD

The whole, Aang-windsurfing-then-surfing made me smile so much. XD

And I kind of like this new, serious Aang. I mean, I hope he gets silly sometimes, but I do like that he's more 'Wow, I really need to get a grip on this' than he used to be.

TURTLEDUCKS!!!!

Katara being a b***h to her father confused me for a bit, then I had an 'ahha' moment when she went on her crying fit...

I liked it, and I'm sooooo looking forward to the new season!!

(best line: "wait, I HAVE HAIR?! HOW LONG WAS I OUT?!")

Something I want to add: Azula being so tricky, sly, and a bit snaky really made me like her b'c her behavior in that scene was sort of like the behavior of the main villianess of the comic I'm working on. Her name is Akujo, and she thinks things through (unlike Ja'aku, her husband who's very impetuous) and seems to know everything. Sometimes (like Azula) she makes plans without informing Ja'aku (or with Azula, Zuko) no matter if it angers/upsets him. And then she's also "snaky", just like Azula was in that bedroom scene. So interesting that I could make that connection.

As SOON as Toph said "Twinkletoes, that MUST be you!" I was like, "Ah, s**t, the Taangers are gonna have fun with this..." I'm chalking it up to, "He's a good friend and he was unconscious for weeks and DIED, anyone would be happy to see him back."

Really? I thought that was more of a grappling hook. This one seemed to me intended to pierce through ship's hulls.

Heh, yeah. I do wonder whether we'll see him again, though. It seemed a bit too abrupt not to see more of him, at LEAST at the very end once everything is back to how it should be.

I knowww... Azula is one of my favourite characters. ^^ She's just so damn SMART. Like, I pride myself on being a sharp cookie, but I could NEVER come up with the scheme she did in 301. I mean, DAMN, GIRL! xD

I think it'd be hilarious if Foamy turned out to be a really really powerful Earth Bender, and was in the main battle and was just KICKING a** left and right, and then he spotted Aang and just lost it. xDD I can picture that really clearly in my mind, too.
