I have to say my favorite Japanese Pop Singer is KEIGO (Keigo Hayashi), one of the two singers of FLOW. It is a rock band.

Most of the stuff I used to like was associated with anime/games/j-drama, but now I listen to more "mainstream" (i.e. popular with the general youth in Japan). I like Utada Hikaru, Mr. Children, Remioromen, Funky Monkey Babys, and Ikimonogakari. Koda Kumi is alright too.

I don't listen to a lot of j-pop, I'm more of a vKei person... but I like Ayu & Utada Hikaru, even though I may not know a lot of their songs. Also BoA, but I haven't heard her in Japanese...

I like Utada Hilaru, but I think my favorite would have to be (this is going to be J-rock rather than J-pop, but whatever) The Pillows, of FLCL fame.
