I think a speed-based grid-battle system would be great, like Gladius, only you'd have to have low res graphics for those on dialup.

yes... its the most likely system to be used, i think. but with so many players out there and thisll probably go multiplayer too, it may become too heavy for the servers. so maybe... the uniqueness it talks about is how it can house many multiplayer games.... (here i am dreaming again sweatdrop )

or maybe like guild wars, you'll be downloading a copy of a map/dungeon/whatever for your use... if you have a party, that's when you see each other.

Well?

Would you rather play an MMORPG, with Gaia Towns graphics or Grid-based combat like FF Tatics?

MMORPG would give you a sense of depth and 3-D action, but may take a while to produce. Not to mention it could get crowed....

Grid based could be cool also, like you choose where you want to go and the entire battle field is a grid complete with obstacles (trees, water, etc.) and treasure chests (just attack to open......).

I really wanna see a grid MMO. Fairyland did a random encounter turned based MMO; it was an OK concept, but i didnt like the graphics.

This battle system really feels like a grid type. xd but I'll take what it ever it is. Lately I'm having trouble finding good games. sweatdrop

theres been a lot of talk about the Battle System being grid based which would be awsome and I also looked at an interview that Lanzer did at one time and he said the there will be dungeons and such too go exploring in

I'm guessing you'll have parties of course. It would be useless if it didn't. But I'm guessing 5 to a party?
Wouldn't 6 to a party make more sense with streets of 6? MMORPG is definately my preference maybe like the mana games(legend, sword, secret). Legend of mana is definately my favorite game of all time. biggrin

If they were to have a gird-based thing, it would be the best that would happen off a free site.

Maybe base it of off teh Original FFT for the Playstation.

That game, although tricky to understand at first, was a little better then the GBA version.

They are both great game though.

The way I think it should happen for the attacks is like this:

Sword-users have to attack closerange until they get a special ability (Rend Air, or something that it far-range)

Mages and Clerics are specifically ranged fighters. Choose a square that is between 2 or more enemies, then let loose with a Fire Blast, or choose a square that is between 2 or more friends, and let loose with a Shell/Protect/Barrier type move.

The battle system is gonna be good.

hope its the grid system turn based style. however, i hope all characters will have a time limit for thier turn so we wont have to wait forvever for someone to do something . i can be impatient

Lanzer said he wanted to make something totally original but with all this pressure and other new features he wants to create I doubt he''ll have time.

I was thinking more on the grid system. then there''s a room where the gaians can create and join battles. they get to choose they''re arena, how many players, then decide if its a team battle or a free for all. xd

this may be the best scenario i can think of for a site that''s free. sweatdrop
Sounds cool. cool 3nodding

After seeing the town, I just had a thought: It could be possible for the system to be of an MMORPG-ish nature.

Its just a thought. sweatdrop ehehehhehe

I had a slightly different idea... not exactly grid like... and more in your face...
a system set up in a way that you still have the sit back no button smashing of a RPG... but it flows and looks like your in a big real-time battle...
which realy goes allong with my thoughts that the battle system should be directly part of towns where others can actualy see you fighting...

(this ones for the PVP version)
Firstly... you send a chalange to the opponent... (Via a button or some other option)
the screen opens up from a white dot.. almost like a outward white flash... when it's opened up, you see all the meters and options come up...

options to move to a new location, attack, and such are hovering arround your avitar.
you can select one of them on your turn, with a limit to how far you can move.

you have a set of different options for when you attack, each with it's own charactaristics... eg: for swords (Jump slash, swing, lunge, running attack) for riflemen(Aimed shot, running shots)...
after a attack you have multiple selections for defending... eg: block, dodge, a special tecnique, or do nothing.
the in-your-face part of defending comes in how you anticipate your opponent's attack... since their are multiple ways to attack, you could end up with a useless defence if your quick to jump to a choice...

and in aditions...
you have a 15/30 second timer(depending on what the admin's chose) when your chosing your move, it gives you time to pick, while rooting out people who sit there just to make you forefit... and it allows for a quick-paced battle where the people on the sidelines can watch you cheering on because it's not entirely boring...

doing different things will have different effects...
like this example...
