Adrea finally noticed that everyone seemed to be gravitating towards a line headed by a young woman that was busy checking cards and typing in answers from the players. Glancing around to make sure she hadn't forgotten anything, Adrea shuffled into the queue, looking about curiously as she waited.
For the most part it was teenage boys (typical, she thought with a grin), but dotted amongst the crowd were a few girls and older adults. Adrea kept to herself, content just to watch the interaction between the other gamers.
She foud herself smiling fo no reason, caught up in the excited atmosphere. She hadn't realized what a big deal this thing was, but as she listened to a nearby couple babbling, Adrea quickly began to understand just how important this event really was to both the gaming and technology world.

Aric smiled happily. This place was his kind of environment. Everyone was talking exitedly about the relaease of Vitual Kingdom and what was to expected of the game. Bright lights were flashing all around, and the sense of expectancy was enormous.

Aric grinned and clutched the card in his hands. He couldn't believe that he had won that drawing. He laughed out loud as he remembered the look on his brother's face when he had told him the news. Aric had spent the last several months repeating the word "No" over and over, as his brother had begged to take his place. But this was once game Aric wasn't going to let his brother get the jump on him with. Aric was in line at the moment, proceding slowly to a young woman. He had heard so much about this game he could barely hold still.

He had heard from rumors that character designs were completely randomized, and the skill and wit of the player was the only thing that would prove a person's ability, rather than level or experience. Aric loved the idea. Logic puzzles and games of chess were his favorite pasttime, and a game where he could show his true colors, without the need for quick reflexes or a trigger-happy finger would be the greatest thing in the world for him.

He pushed his glasses up his face and smiled enthusiastically. 'This is going to be great,' he thought happily.

Timmy was getting really excited now. He was very close to the front desk where the lady was taking the cards. Timmy reached into his pocket to pull his out, and had a moment of panic when he couldn't feel it. Then he remembered his dad had made him put it in the inside pocket of his suit jacket. He breathed a sigh of relief as he pulled it out. He read it for the hundredth time:

Tim Kinomoto
Virtual Kingdom ID# 000000014

He bristled with even more excitement. Fourth in line now. Timmy leaned to the side and looked at the lady standing behind the desk. Nice enough looking, but something looked a little off. He looked very close at her hands as she took the cards from people. And... there it was. A slight flicker of light not quite reflecting right. She was using a halogram. He wondered why, and also wondered idly what she really looked like.
Just before he got to the front, he slipped the card into his sleeve. Now he was at the desk. He put both hands out, turned them back and forth so she could see both sides, stretched open both of the sleeve and made a pouring motion with both of them, holding the card in against his tensed wrist to give the illusion of 'nothing up my sleeve'. With a flourish, he reached out and plucked the card from the air. He held it out to her and smiled. "Here you go," he said.

((My own RP got moved too. I found it under the level 3 category. You'd think they'd sent a PM or something to inform us. I had to mass message the other players.))

Aric saw the boy several people in front of him performing magic tricks for the woman taking cards and watched with interest. Some people said he was logical, but he could never spot the trick to those kind of performances. Aric grinned in anticipation. There were all sorts of people here to play the game.

He had only seen one girl so far, however, and she looked very out of place in this building. Her attitude had given her the appearance of being lost. Aric wondered why she was here in the first place.

'No use worrying about that now,' Aric thought. 'I'm almost to the front!'

Elincia smiled at the boy as she took the card gingerly, glad that the hologram image couldn't blush. It had completely thrown her off guard, and she had to admit, magic tricks were one of the easiest ways to impress her. She found them fascinating. Carefully, with the speed of practice she typed in corresponding data as she scanned the card. "So then," she commented as she worked, focusing on the on-screen skimatics, "We've got a bit of an illusionist here, or perhaps a clever little rogue?" she glimpsed up from the screen momentarily before moving on, working swiftly as she typed in more registration codes and information.

In the Immersion room pods were filling fast, already three groups of ten or so users had gone through, entering the streamlined pods with their ornate looking interface systems and the elegant engravings in the surface. Over two hundred more were waiting with anticipation in the Boston building alone to enter those sleek, silver pods that almost resembled chariots of ancient days, and there were almost enough pods in the building for all of them. Of course, most were only there for the event. After things died down they would be taken back to the research facility to be prepared for marketing. Edward already had several prospective customers lined up to Elincia's personal annoyance. Elincia had designed the pods herself as the main artistic advisor to her brother's company. Aesthetics were her specialty, and the most recent innovations in the virtual world had been her idea, not that she could have done anything if it hadn't been for her brother and all his technicians and scientists.

She handed back the card mere moments later, a broad smile on her face. "Have fun, and remember Don't make the steward angry. You'll understand when you get there. The next session will begin in a few more minutes. You'll be going in with a larger registration group, about twenty five or so people since your father or someone else back there just called in some extra technicians." she pointed to a projected message over her desk comm. "Enjoy the Virtual Kingdom and good luck traveler." She waved him away and motioned for the next person to step forward.

"Thanks, I will," he waved back. He had butterflies in his stomach he was so excited. What would a virtual world be like, he wondered. Would it be obvious it was fake? Or would it be just like real life? He couldn't imagine something so immersing. But, then again, nothing like this had ever been created before.

Timmy walked into the Immersion room, mouth agape, trying to take in everything at once. The pod-things looked wicked sweet, and along one wall was a glass window which showed technicians working at sterile looking consoles. Timmy caught a glimpse of his dad (the suit made him unmistakable. His dad was such a dork... in a cool kind of way) walking quickly past the window with a clipboard in hand.

Timmy found an empty pod and tentatively stepped inside. Then he just waited for the fun to begin, twirling a quarter over his fingers anxiously.

Before too long Adrea finally found herself at the front of the line. She nearly dropped everything trying to up them onto the desk, but after a frantic moment of juggling she managed to pass off her card and papers to Elincia. "Whew! There we go!" She laughed. "Sorry about all the extra stuff, it was kind of a last minute thing," she added with an apologetic smile. Adrea hadn't actually gone through all the paperwork, but went ahead and assumed Jun and Joey had completed everything alright. They were both basically geniuses, so she was sure they couldn't have screwed it up too much.
"I hope everything is all filled out right!" Adrea beamed confidently.

Aric was getting anxious. The girl he had seen earlier was at the reception desk, and she had only been two spots in front of him ('How'd I miss that?'). He fidgeted the card in his hands nervously, glancing at the writing on it:

Aric Faust
Virtual Kingdom ID# 000000123

He wondered what kind of character he'd be. A mage, perhaps? A knight? Some crazy demon? Aric almost laughed at the thought. That kind of thing might actually be fun.

Elincia glanced down at the card, the registration information different from what it should have been for the girl. Elincia began typing things into the computer as she swiched things around, changing minor details like the slightly important fact that she was a girl and not a boy.

"Now what exactly is your name again?" she asked, sifting through the information and typing in what was obvious, "I generally shouldn't be doing this, but I'm assuming the incredibly ill kid who gave you this was somehow related to you, and since I saw him very happy when he handed it over..." She glanced back up, card in hand, "I appreciate you taking it for him," she paused, a broad smile on her face as she added somewhat sarcastically, "I would have hated to clean up the mess he would have left in the pods." she laughed lightly and keyed in a few more things until all that was left was the girl's name.

Some of the people behind her who could hear what was going on looked incredibly annoyed. Elincia shrugged, the girl had a card so she was perfectly legal in all technicality. It wasn't as if they weren't going to get to play, there were still plenty of pods despite the mass number of people there. Besides, most of the first had signed up for short, thirty minute sessions. Sessions that would be over within the next few minutes. Elincia grinned at how smoothly things were moving despite the obnoxious human element. She was really tempted to give the more impatient ones a hard time when they got to her, their tapping toes and agitated chatter getting on her nerves.

"Oh, sure! I'm Adrea Noire." Adrea replied. "Like Joey Noire there, the one who gave me the card." She frowned softly to herself. "Poor guy, I know he really wanted to be here."
Angry stares like light slaps played against the back of her head as the many gamers stuck behind Adrea simeltaneously wished her cardiac arrest. She resisted the childish urge to turn around and stick out her tongue at them. Well, hadn't she waited in line just the same as anyone? Fair was fair; she'd take as damn long as she pleased, thank you.
Adrea turned her attention away from this inner dialogue and back to Elincia, smiling good naturedly.

Elincia smiled and typed in the name. Scanning the card a second time she handed it back to the girl.

"Well at least the card wasn't wasted. I'm sure all these hard core gamers can understand that. I think any one of them would jump at the chance if they didn't have their own." She glared down the line sharply, and many people shifted out of her direct line of sight nervously. One boy, a few people back with glasses, just looked at his registration card as he waited in line, occasionally pushing them up off his nose. He seemed amused about something, maybe even lost in his own little world. She turned back to the girl, glare gone.

"Andrea," she paused, pondering as she looked at the girl's distinguishing features, her short hair and her bright face, "It seems like a very noble name. Very pretty and refined. I do hope you have fun. Do me a favor and teach all these boys a lesson." Her grin was huge as she sent the girl on her way, waiting for the next players to approach.

Meanwhile, in the tech labs, people were going back and forth as they waited for the last few members of the current session to enter the room. Most of the players were on an individual roster, choosing not to enter the same locations as people they knew, but it was easier with so many people waiting to send gamers into the Kingdom in large shifts that were just small enough that the initial Immersion wouldn't overload the system.

It was here that a young technician approached Tim, clipboard in hand as he circled the room, talking to players and asking about their impressions and expectations as they waited. He glanced at the boy, standing in wonder at the pod. He was tempted to laugh out loud at the tux Mr. Kinomoto had made his son wear, but he didn't. His supervisor would probably fire him for it. Instead he said jestingly,

"So kid, are you going to sit down or are you just going to stand and stare all day. Hey Tim, it's been a while. What were you, like, two when I last saw you? What do you think?" Tapping the open mouth of a Celtic dragon design to indicate what he was asking about he smiled broadly. Not much older than Tim himself the statement didn't really fit, but then again, this technician was known for his lame jokes falling flat.

Timmy glanced up and was surprised to see Ichabod approach him. He shouldn't have been; Iggy had been coming over to his house to work with his dad for about a year now, ever since he joined the company. He was nice enough, and every once in a blue moon he actually told a funny joke.
"Hey Iggy, I didn't know you were working tonight." He sat down in the technically ornate looking chair. "So... how do I work this thing?"

(( I hope you don't mind me naming a character you made ))
