"Of course not! It's Kai and Tibuka, two loving and fluffy hyenas, on border patrolling duty!"

She bounded about some more, her little tail wagging and her black-toed paws skidding in the dirt. Her silver eyes were filled with excitement, for what ever reason. Border patrolling was definitely not the thing that should of excited her, in any case.

"Huh?" Kai's ears perked as Tibuka stuck his tongue out at her and then dashed away. "Hey! Get back here!" She dashed off after him, giggling some.

"Loving and fluffy?! " Tibuka barked over his shoulder. "Sorry to dissapoint you, but I'm not either of those! " He chuckled, and slowed ever so slightly, if only so Kai could catch up before he decided to run again. Wait. Why would they be loving hyenas? He didn't quite get that.

Fluffy, maybe. But loving..? Why did that sound funny?

"Yes! Loving and fluffy! You're loving, whether you may like it or not. I can tell. It's in your eyes."

She giggled some, continuing to run after her brown and cocky friend. He was such the weird one. He was indeed a very loving hyena. Sure, he wasn't that fluffy, but hey, it still sounded cute to say it. He wold figure it out one day, when he was wasn't being so gosh darn stubborn.

"Oh, so you think I always act this way? " He growled playfully.

He wasn't loving, was he? Perhaps Kai thought so because he acted so different with her. But really, Tibuka was a rather bitter hyena. He hadn't been this way always, but since he'd joined the pack, he'd hardened a lot. Perhaps Kai just managed to bring his old self back.

Kailasa giggled some more, leaping onto his back and brining him down to the ground. She loved doing that to him. She wasn't sure why, but it was loads of fun. Maybe she just felt like she was in charge of him or something. Then again, that sounded too much like her old mother, her steering clear of that in all cases.

"Of course you do, silly! You're always so happy and cheerful. The only time I've ever seen you with a real frown on your muzzle was when we first met."

She nipped at his ear slightly, just happy with sitting on him. The border could wait, right? Heck yea! Of course it could! It'd still be there in a few minutes.

Okay. Kai was nice. But the whole pouncing thing really had to stop. He could handle being nice to her, and sure, it was good company, but she did that a bit too much for his enjoyment. "Hey, get off! " He growled lightly, pulling out from beneath Kai and shaking dust off his fur.

"You do that too much. " He snorted a bit, but didn't sound genuinely mad, just perhaps a bit annoyed. He didn't want to hurt Kai's feeling but sometimes.. It was just enough, y'know? There was only so much Tibuka could handle, and he'd long grown out of the phase when he wanted to play like that all the time.

"C'mon, lets finish the patrol so we can stay free. " He said, trying to sound a little more optimistic, just in case he'd upset her. But geez, he wanted her to stop with the frinkin pouncing.

Kai rolled off of him and onto the ground, her ears dropping some. Maybe she was too playful sometimes. Sure, she wasn't an adult yet, but she still wasn't a pup anymore either. It was just in her nature to be playful. She couldn't help it. Although, since it annoyed Tibuka, it would have to stop.

"Sorry, Tibuka. Let's so patrol the border." She wasn't trying to sound upset or anything, but she was, just a little bit. She knew life wasn't all fun and games, but still, to loosen up a little bit... Ah well. She's have to get used to his rough talk one way or another.

"It okay. " Tibuka shrugged. "Its just too often. " He said, looking away for a moment before beginning towards the border once more, tail flicking a bit.

but suddenly he let out a half bark, like a 'wuff', and dashed off full speed. What the heck was a hare doing all the way out here?! Dumb brown thing. He growled on his way at it, and the hare emmediately shot off. Of course, Tibuka had no chance of catching it. It'd had a large head start, and hares were fast.

"That damn hare made me hungry! " He barked back at Kailasa. "Wanna catch summin? "

Kai watched as Tibuka raced off, watching the hare with interest. She had grown to hate hares with an undying passion, as she had been tricked by one. That stupid reddish-brown hare would pay someday. Kai would make sure of it.

Still, Tibuka had brought up a point. Just seeing the hare made Kai's stomach rumble. She didn't want to be hungry right now, as she was still a little... Blah.. But when her stomach talked, she knew she had to answer it.

"Sure. Don't forget about the patrolling duties though. We don't want Mafa to get upset at us." Seriousness. It sucked.

He quirked a brow in amusement. Was Kai trying to be serious? He shook his head slightly with a smile, and nodded. "Yup. We'll patrol then hunt. " He nodded, and moved a bit more, until soon they'd reached the border.

Tibuka stopped to scent the air.

No lions, that was for sure. He smelled very faint cheetah and the fear of something.. maybe a hare. Perhaps a cheetah had chased a hare this far. However, now it seemed very stale and long-gone. The wind carried him the unmistakable scent of a small group of gazelles. They could look for that when done the patrol! "You smell it too? "

Kai had followed him, not saying a word. Her facial expressions were barely there, and she greatly hesitated from making any sounds or taking an unnecessary actions. She didn't want to upset Tibuka again, as she cared for him too much to see him so grumpy.

However, she did stop and sniff the air, being able to smell the cheetah, the hare, and the small group of gazelles. She nodded her head some, sniffing the air some more. It smelled quite tasty, as she had had some gazelle in the unclaimed rogue lands.

Her stomach rumbled some more and she winced slightly.

It was kind of odd to see Kai so quiet, but he guessed he should let it. Actually.. Better not. "You know Kai, " He started, looking back at her again. "I just wanted ya ter stop pouncing me. Not shut up. " He grinned meekly, then began to move along the border, keeping his nose ready.

"Quicken yer pace, so we can eat. " He nodded slightly, not really wanting to press on the matter of her childishness.

"Ehhh.. It's probably for the better anyhow. If I don't talk, I won't act up. So, no talking equals a good and behaved Kailasa."

Yes, her philosophy didn't always make sense, but it's what she went by. It was silly, and she loved being so. However, if she had to go and be serious for someone she truly cared about, she would. She almost even had the feeling of wanting to do anything for him.

She did speed up though, trying to catch up to Tibuka. Apparently, he was pretty hungry as well.

"Well, if ya say so. " He shrugged. If Kai thought it worked that way, then fine. However, a part of the muddy-looking males mind doubted she'd be able to keep up with being serious for long. He didn't know if he'd prefer her serious.

Kailasa was sometimes too childish. Perhaps he could teach her to bring it down a notch, but not so much as she'd be a serious thing like he was. Tibuka liked sometimes acting less like.. like himself. But she was the only one he could do it with. Yet, even when he was acting more laid back, he didn't enjoy her constant pouncing. Frankly, it was annoying.

They continued to move along the border, Tibuka occasionally dashing ahead to scare a vulture or two into flight. If anything did come and die, he'd rather the pack eat it, not some dumb birds.

"Patrol's almost done. " He said finally, with a yawn. It'd bored him-- and also made him hungry.

Kai didn't like acting so serious. It made her want to cry. It was like sucking all the fun out of life, which was like sucking all the life out of Kai. Having fun was all a part of life, especially for her. She never could understand why others could be so uptight and serious with each other. It made them so stiff... And.. Not normal.

With her silver eyes falling some, Kai dropped behind, not running fast enough to keep up with Tibuka now. She had a small shine in the corner of her eyes, but she blinked it away, it rolling down her fluffy cheeks and then flying off into the wind as she ran back up to speed. She couldn't let Tibuka see her like this... Crying. It was horrible, and it wasn't her.

She just couldn't.
