Boredom. It's kinda hard to wallow in self-depression when the sake of the world depends on you destroying a meteor summoned by a former idol turned mad by the discovery of the "secret of his birth". Once you don't have to save the world anymore you have time to wallow.
Or at least that's my take on it.

Hehehe, that's hilarious. xd
I find it strange too.....When Zack died in the ending, Cloud did scream out in grief...but afterwards he was strong, trying to live out "both of their lives". Then he goes emo afterwards....seriously. Nothing fits anymore.

Yeah... poor Cloud. I just don't think that the emo life was for him. Good thing Tifa was there to snap him out of his angsty behavior. biggrin Which makes a great point as to how much they care for eachother. She cared enough to try to help him, and he cared enough for her to change. Another Cloti relationship point saves the day! 4laugh heart

And a thousand more points to back that up. biggrin Cloud really does care for Tifa. She receives most of his smiles after all. Cloud isn't one to smile, even the creators said so. He was made to have a "stiff upper lip" and large eyes to show that he speaks through his eyes rather than words. So it just furthers the relationship. They don't need to say anything to each other. They understand. heart

Well about 'smiles' Cloud states that Aerith's is most important to him. Wha? Well here is a quote from FFVII biggrin ismantled:
Cloud: "Even so, I have to fight. So, I can leave my past behind me. So I can be myself. And above all--- to unfreeze her smile."
the end xD

I haven't heard of that either. In any case, who recieves Cloud's smile, is different from who Cloud wants to see smile. ^^
Of course Cloud would want to 'unfreeze' Aeris' smile. He blames himself for what happened. He misses her smile. She's past, and he wants to see her smile again. I suppose that could be a Cleris point, though to me it's only what makes sense for when someone close to you dies.

Seriously, if you think about it she died with a smile. I sure that image haunts Cloud whenever he thinks of her so of course he would want to unfreeze it.

Excellent point.*Tries not to laugh* I do agree with Lunar that it's a strong Cleris point. I want to see Dismantled! Hey Pink, is that they bookish thing that the staff created in some of the characters' perspective?

Well think of it this way. Cloud says...'above all' meaning the most imporant thing, more important then anything else, is unfreezing the smile of a mere friend? So that would mean that unfreezing her smile is more important than his 'undying love' for Tifa? Woah, Cloud sure has his priorities mixed up. xd And this also reminds me of when Sephiroth asks Cloud in advent children what is most important to him and the first person he sees is Aerith. I wonder why...
I know that Dismantled is an official book which has sections that focus on the thoughts of the FFVII characters.
I really love this part. And the part where Aerith mentions that Cloud is slow about woman. xD I only have parts of it though. Cloud: "Aerith is dead. Right in front of my eyes... I couldn't stop Sephiroth. She was in my reach, and all I could do is stand there and watch as his sword ran through Aerith. All the time Aerith used to smile, like a flower. But, Aerith won't smile anyway. I won't be able to hear her innocent laugh again. What did she do? Why did Aerith have to be killed? What am I supposed to do about this anger, it's like endlessly boiling and burning up my body. Yet at the same time, I was afraid. Like a chill coming from the core of my body. When I found Aerith there, offering up some prayer, what did I try to do? If my friends hadn't stopped me at that moment, I would have struck my sword down on Aerith. It was something separate from my own will... it was like when I gave Sephiroth the Black Materia--- Who am I? I'm EX-SOLDIER Cloud... right? Tell me, Aerith---"

Quote: And this also reminds me of when Sephiroth asks Cloud in advent children what is most important to him and the first person he sees is Aerith. I wonder why... Well because Aeris was someone precious to Cloud that Sephiroth took away directly. Duh rolleyes I think it was Tifa or Tifa with the kids were what he saw last before he pulled the blade out of his shoulder and continued fighting. heart

Tell me, Aerith---" Huh....I think I saw sections of Dismantled after all but only little snippets. But anyway, when it came to his thoughts in AC, first was Aeris, Zack, Tifa, either Marlene and Denzel and his last thought: his family. I'm sure Tifa is a lot more important to him than Zack. It just might be possible that he thought of the people he failed to protect first. wink Aww...the quote is just so damn sad. crying
