Darkfeather blinked once in surprise, that having been an unexpected answer as well. "I see...my apologies." Did hell just freeze over or did he actually apologize for something? Gasp.
Another glance in Setsumi's direction and he lifted a brow, noticing the grass sticking in her feathers. Looking away, he growled lightly to himself... brows creased. Having to resist the urge to preen the grass from her pelt. Huff.

"Hah, what are you apologizing for? You asked, I answered." Simple as that. Setsumi chuckled half-heartedly, not knowing that word was in the winged kitsu's vocabulary. "It's just as you had said before; if it's worth it." And to her, the only worth she got out of it was her children. Even if she never did see her daughter since birth.
Ears tucked down behind her shoulders. Rhapsody. She couldn't help but wonder how she was getting along. Brows twitched, before she caught on to what was disturbing Darkfeather. She reached what she could to clean herself, not all too bothered with the thin strands.

Darkfeather just rolled his eyes and watched as Setsumi rid herself of the grass... or most of it. He grunted a bit, "You missed some" he pointed out. And in a gesture he didn't seem all too comfortable with, he reached out and quickly plucked the strands of grass from her pelt with his teeth. Assuming she didn't try to take his face off that is.
Either way, he then sat there indignantly, trying to act as if nothing had happened. Hmph. u_u

The movement was caught in the corner of her eye, and she merely thought he was getting up to leave. Probably rolling his eyes, being an expert feather cleaner himself. But she stiffened, sensing the close proximity. Then, in all shock, felt him helping to remove the stubborn blades. She just sat very still, both numb and cautious to be nipped.
Finally, as he moved away she allowed herself to breathe. "Um, thanks." She craned her neck to see they were all gone from her back. She gave a soft smile, finding the situation awkward enough for a giggle. "Now in bird terms, was that a friendly thing?" She didn't know, being with feathers and not wings. She shook her head, guessing it was more a pity thing. Couldn't even groom her own feathers.

Darkfeather peered at her sidelong as Setsumi asked her question. The crested kitsu clearing his throat. "Don't get the wrong idea... but yes, it usually is considered a friendly or affectionate gesture. Especially between mated pairs." Cough. Thus why she shouldn't get the wrong idea... yes. u_u;
Even if Setsumi didn't have wings, she still had feathers... which were typically a factor unique to birds. But apparently, anything can go in this world.

Setsumi felt a smirk as Dark cleared his throat. As if it was a meeting lecture he was about to speak. But she was left blinking. "Wrong ideas? I can't even privilege myself with such comfort." Not when she was still bound in an empty title. She turned to look at the grass, noting a small field mouse dart on by. "Besides, your mate wouldn't much appreciate that gesture on another." She could imagine another winged kitsu diving out from the air already. Talons and sharp eyes are not something she wanted attention from.

Darkfeather snorted, "I have no mate" he said bluntly. Wondering whatever gave her the idea that he might have one. He then fell silent, mentally noting that they had something else in common... sort of. Neither were really spoken for... although Setsumi had a mate... from the way she acted, he seemed like a dead beat. Puh... what an idiot.
If he had a mate such as Setsumi, he would make sure to hold onto her. The crested kitsu then mentally sneered at himself for even thinking such a thing.

Oops. She peeked green eyes back at the other before turning to the side. "I'm sorry." She shouldn't have....but she didn't know. Setsumi pried a soft and sheepish smile. "I shouldn't known better. I assumed you the type to glide constantly overhead a mate. I had just put the pieces together incorrectly." When he had flown by getting a quick meal. And the way he was eager to take flight once more, like he had someone to return to.
Her stomach felt knotted now. Was this how Lily had felt?

"What are you apologizing for? You asked, I answered." DF looking a bit smug as he threw Setsumi's own words back at her. However, his ears tilted back a bit. Such a thing was not beyond him though... and there was an empty spot in his being. But it was not a mate that had once filled it.
"There was someone once... but not what you might think. Heh." He lifted a foot to casually scratch at his chin. "I'm one of those kitsusagi that have lived another life."

She tossed him a grimace, before allowing a chuckle. "I suppose I did." Wow, she had never been cornered before with her own words. A useful method she never knew. At least the kitsu hadn't snarled back and took flight in a fury. With her random moods, she may have done so and not even be fully aware of the reasons.
Green eyes grew wide in utter surprise. "You had a past life?" She had heard and seen of others in the same case, but so few of them. 'Befores', 'past lives', and 'alternate dimensions'. But she had never expected Darkfeather to have something of that extreme to hide. She leaned forward curiously. "May I...inquire about it?" If she was denied, she would understand immediately and leave it be.

Again, he grunted a bit... but after a moment, seemed to relent. He couldn't keep things bottled away forever.. and well... this is the first time he'd ever had a listening ear. "I was a bird then... a Pidgeot. Which was one of many species of Pokemon, or animals with elemental abilities." He sighed and settled down, folding his forepaws infront of him.
He hadn't been a human as Setsumi might have thought, and he couldn't say that adjusting to the life of a mammal had been easy. "Many pokemon had human companions or trainers... I had one. A girl who raised me from a hatchling."

Setsumi seated herself as Darkfeather decided to reveal somethings. It wasn't too much a shock to say he came back with wings, being a bird before. So he had some sdjusting to do with fur and four limbs. "A Pokemon. I take your element was air?" He had said elements, so that drew away any thoughts of magic such as what Remus had.
Her tails swished behind her at the interesting story. "So...you had an owner? A human partner." Those were a rare but heard of creature, even in realm.

He nodded, "Flying and normal were my types, and each pokemon had their own set of attacks." He smirked, thinking of his favorite attack, Hyper Beam. He had been known for it, and struck fear into many people's hearts.
"I did... her name was Nikki. She took care of me, and I protected her." She was his best friend, the only thing in the world he had really cared about, and then somehow he ended up here... alone.

She followed along as best she could. Specific elements with even more defined attack abilities. And here as a kitsu, only claws and teeth were the basic attacks. She raised a brow at his smirk; he was enjoying past memories. "Nikki." That was a nice name for a human. "Well, perhaps she'll appear someday?" Ones with befores seemed to be spit into this world at random. "Then you won't be solitary."

Darkfeather grunted, "Perhaps.. perhaps not." Brows furrowed and he sighed heavily, as if about to give a huge confession. "You see, that's why I've been roaming. I've been searching for her."
He frowned, as if it was like the truth was revealing some ultimate weakness. Something which he didn't like at all. But the truth was... he had been lost without her. Darkfeather really wasn't use to be alone... but he couldn't bring himself to admit that. Couldn't admit that the seperation between him and his trainer.. his best friend... was tearing him up inside.
